I don't get why Republicans have such dislike for Mad Men though, aren't most characters apolitical or Republican?

Yeah but they are also all despicable. Even the female protagonists if any actually exists in the show are not exactly lovable. Every time you see a character evolve in some way and redeem their character, the very next episode they take two steps back. It is a lot like the Sopranos in that way, minus the action and violence. I think the general despair of the show is something that does not appeal to Republicans, and the show itself is a direct indictment of the whole family values/ corporate America/ American Dream that the right tends to glorify.

Looks like the Democrats have much better taste in TV shows. They need to do something like this for music.

I was thinking this... till I saw that Democrats prefer Jersey Shore!

Definitely want to see something like this for music. I'm pretty positive that the type of music I listen to skews mostly liberal.

I'll bet Libertarians watch the dumbest shit like Ghost Hunters or Medium.

They watch Freedom Watch with Alex Jones and Ron Paul, of course.

2 decent shows... Mad Men and Breaking Bad. The rest, a bunch of shit. Feels like two losers arguing who is the bigger one.
Friday Night Lights is shit? Really?

I watch a little bit of Dancing with the Stars and I watched the first 2.5 seasons of dexter (season 3 sucked so I stopped). So I guess I'm 50/50.

The Big Bang Theory is the worst show I've ever seen, at least in the last fifteen years. At least now I know why it is still in production.

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.

Well, Democrats like 90210 so......
They don't actually enjoy the show, they're just making sure Michael from the Wire is ok

Indeed. You would think the righties would watch the hell out of Mad Men, since it signifies a day and age they're trying to get back to.

I think the reality of the era represented in Mad Men doesnt match up to their fantasy that everybody was cool with all the racism, misogyny, and white men first mentality of the times. That's not the good old days as they remember it.

Nice. Sample size being what it is, you'd have to rely on anecdotes.

On that list, the wife watches V, Housewives, Lie to Me, Dexter, Law & Order SVU. Glee's not on the list, but she'd never miss that (unfortunately). Of that list, I guess I'd most enjoy Dexter, but I wouldn't really watch it on my own.

For my part, I watch The Walking Dead, watch anime on Hulu, and otherwise read sci-fi / fantasy & play videogames. :p I haven't seriously followed a show since Battlestar Galactica, and it looks like Dead's only got 6 episodes to start with, so I guess I'll be routinely watching nothing again, shortly.

What in the hell is Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami?

I don't have cable, but that's the only show I've never heard of on either of these lists.

Wow. So what they're saying is that, while both sides had insanely bad taste in most of the shows they watch, the Democrats were the worst of the bunch, admitting to watching the creme of the crop of crap?

For some reason I've always imagined all republicans watch "House"
There was a scene with Kal Penn in an episode of House where there was an Obama '08 sticker in the background.

I think they'd have a shit fit.

Terrified at the Glenn Beck rating. Bunch of fucking red idiots.

Uhhhh...yeah except Democrats watch it too apparently. It's ranked 35th for Democrats, which is still very high.

And it looks like I side more with the Republicans' tastes than Democrats'. I watch 6 shows regularly that are in the Republicans' list and only 4 in the Democrats' list.

Yeah on second look the Dems have an overall better list, but "Kourtney and Khloe take Miami" just sort of leaps out at me as something that can't possibly be worth watching. Also, if both groups list a political pundit as their favorite show, we are a Boring Nation.
Hot Chick in Miami.

Probably, but there's a regional correlation with political affiliation.

Uh doesn't that assumption underly what I said?

If you wanted to make the greater point, that there are social <-> regional ties in general, that would follow from my post.

I was under the impression that nerds were more liberal, wonder why the Big Bang theory is rated so highly among republicans (or anyone for that matter, the show is shit)

It's on CBS. They have the whole 50+ audience locked down.

Plus BBT isn't a show for nerds, it's a show about nerd stereotypes for non-nerds to watch and say "Nerds, LOL!"

Theory is a seriously bad show. I didn't laugh once. I ain't a snob either as Two & A Half Men has gotten chuckles from me numerous times (I am sorry).

I'm a bit confused by the methodology here, but I'm happy to see Community make an appearance.

I think, from looking at the lists is that people surveyed like shows that they are possibly not watching.

The Rep list has programs that have similar numbers for Dems and Reps. The upper part of the Dem list has more outliers, possibly because Dems like shows that are critically acclaimed/panned (even if the surveyed Dems don't necessarily watch those programs or are liking the shows ironically in hipster fashion).

Reps probably dislike/distrust critics in general since they represent media/academia.

[edit/]
What people should have gotten out of the list is that the only program that Reps like that Dems don't really like is Glenn Beck. Meanwhile Dems love a greater variety of programming that Reps don't care much for- some of it is edgier fare like Mad Men and Dexter.

I wonder how high 24 would be on the Republican list if it was still on.

Came in to post this.

Mad Men, FNL, and Breaking Bad make it seem like Dems have better taste. Reps like Two and a Half Men? Ugh...
