Top-level COD competitions look like what we expect

I just feel gamepads are woefully unsuited for the genre. Not only do gamepads impact your situational awareness due to how long it takes to do quick turns but there's also issues like aim acceleration(which attempts to alleviate the aforementioned problem) and aim assist. This blog has good info.

How does any of this makes FPS on gamepads non-competitive?

So did anyone watch the video until the end? You guys never ever swear? Watch it till the end for the final words of the author and think about it.

I don't care what the excuses are - I believe a level of respect always needs to be observed in the public arena. I'm only in my early 20s and this video is already making me sigh "kids these days..."

Right....

I see pc elitist has becoming as sad as 360/ps3 fanboys who argue in youtube nowadays.

Here are some PC COD4 Players in a LAN Playing a grand finals for thousands of dollars in the final round. IN an event sponsored by NVIDIA

Look at the crowd
Look at the no banter
Look at the instant handshakes and good games at then end
no swearing just cheering.

(That is one of my teams btw)

Narrator is just pandering to the audience.

You hear the same stuff & emotion in everyday non-money matches. there is a reason codbros are laughed at.

& as far as sports go, the stuff I've done, there is a pretty low tolerance for that kind of thing. But I guess maybe Volleyball & Swimming competitions are for pussies. ;-)

The shit I've heard on a basketball court is just as bad as what I saw in that video, probably a little worse actually, with a few fights to go along with it.

You'll find this with anything played competitively, from basketball to esports.
I don't think you can compare a sport where people are actually making contact with each other and trying to physically better each other to people sitting in chairs shooting fake bullets at each other.

This is more like a bunch of people cussing each other out at a chess or poker tournament.

I didn't say it makes it non-competitive. I just said it's funny.

Of course when they're all using the same tools it's an even playing field. And you can have competitiveness on an even playing field. But it's still funny. :)

Coming from a Pro PC gamer this is what happens when you support home consoles in the competitive scene. And its totally what they deserve.

Yeah man playing on my console turns me into a fucking idiot. Please save me.

Seriously elitism is shitty so stop it. People can be dickheads regardless of platform choice.

What a horrible show and a glimpse into how some online players are.

This worries me to see this kind of behavior from the youth of the world. Kind of like how phones have changed the kids these days. It seriously makes me worry about how things will be in 20 years.

Kids are different these days and have worse attitude and a straight up lazier. Not that there isn't plenty of good responsible ones but the types who grow up on games or phones are growing and it's not pleasing me.

I was more than annoyed by the behavior of these "top level" players. There is plenty of games which folks play and don't get this rowdy but it just goes to show what games can do to the behavior patterns of the youth these days.

Sad.

Are you speaking about the players or the organizers?

I would presume that if the people shown in the video were told the behavior was unacceptable and could cost them the match they would not do it. But, it is acceptable in that environment.

Is your point that this behavior is exclusive to console players?

Well you obviously cant read because I never said that nor did I even remotely imply that at all. The target audience for this is what you are looking at in a video.

WTF man...I do realise that there's a lot of money and probably pride on the line for these competitions but this is just horrible. It throws the face of the video game industry and gamers really.

Not to mention Starcraft aren't even like that, such a huge level of difference.

No, he's actually on to something. The ease of consoles attracts a far wider base of players. I don't really need to elaborate more as it should be self explanatory.

I also like the supporters or whatever in the background including the one guy on the left side team who seems to be like a futbol/soccer coach.

So exactly like other competitive sports - got it.

I would hardly call this a sport. It's videogames and shamefully worrying to see kids behave this way.

No my point is the fact this behavior is supported there are no repercussions its considered OK Also no there were no rules on banter in that video.

Thank you someone who understands. This is encouraged when it shouldnt be their "coach" gets in on it for crying out loud so some maturity.

Those guys have nothing on the PC-elitism crew

This is a compilation, I could do this for any sport out there. Kind of pathetic to see GAF jump on the hate bandwagon but not unexpected. You have obviously never been to a civil war game or seen a bench clearing in a "real" sport.

Shit happens. This is tame compared to what I have seen at college rival games.

"They cussed and got excited, what a disgrace to humanity!"

Ha, sad.

They're a bunch of tossers, but nothing exactly shocking. Wayne Rooney get's $400k a week and acts like that in front of a stadium of sixty thousand people and millions watching at home.

Precisely. It's almost tolerated like it should be part of the experience. I don't tolerate it online when I mute others so why should I tolerate it in a "professional" tournament which has money on the line?

That behavior is embarrassing.

Nothing like other competitive sports.

NHL players shake hands after a hard fought playoff series
NBA players usually huge each other before and after games
NFL players often hold prayer circles with members from both teams.
MMA fighters - the people you'd expect to be the most bro-y douches around, usually give credit to their opponent after a fight, regardless of how much trash talk goes on beforehand.

Yes but what happens in Pro league sports when stuff like this would go down? Suspensions? Fines?

I've seen a lot of esport finals and competition (primary SC2, LoL, Dota2). Never have I seen such bad behavior. It still is not the way to behave and to promote your sport/team.

I think its more funny than sad, so I agree. Not sure why people are acting so shocked and losing faith in humanity etc.

Except if you go online and play people talk like this regularly. Lets not sit here and pretend like its a select few people that have this level of maturity. I don't even plug in my headphones anymore unless I'm getting in a private chat because of how rampant this behavior gets.

There's a standard to hold, absolutely.

This is a video game tournament with sponsors and money on the line. A little more self control would be nice.

Again, why should this behavior be vilified when we mute the same type of player online?

The spectacle of this serious sport we call video games (lol) doesn't mean we should be put through having to tolerate that kind of behavior.

It's not ok and if athletes have a moral obligation to their audience then why shouldn't these serious athletes playing games?

I'm not sure why people are bring up chess matches. To me the footage shown here is a couple of dudes getting hyped. This is coming from someone who's never played CoD and generally dislikes FPS multiplayer games.I agree that they could tone down the cursing but what they have is pretty cool. That's also the reason i like big fighting game tournaments they know how to get hype/they know how to get the crown hyped.(see also why it failed when the people who manage starcraft tournaments tried to put people in suits and be passive and get people to be lame fucks)

Doesn't make it any less depressing/pathetic/horrifying.
