Because you are innocent until proven guilty. Any officer involved shooting results in an investigation, and you can't have an officer who is being investigated on the streets. But, there are justified shootings, and you obviously can't tell someone who was involved in one that they are going to have to go without their pay check until everything is cleared. They are normal people with families to support.

That line I just highlighted should tell you how messed up the situation is. The cops killed an unarmed innocent victim because they assumed he was the suspect. What happened to innocent until proven guilty in his situation? They did not kill the person who was literally trying to kill someone in front of them yet they kill the unarmed innocent person who happened to fit the description of the suspect. That shows a serious lack of poor judgement of their part.

Fuck, this is near my apartment. A couple of my friends live on that street too. Three days ago, someone got stabbed to death in the same apartment, apparently. It's considered a safe neighborhood but I guess crazy doesn't know any socio-economic borders.

Innocent until proven guilty applies to a court of law, not to a real-world life and death situation with a hostile attacker.

You don't wait for a judge to tell you it's okay to shoot the knife wielding psycho, which is what they thought they were dealing with. Again, I think the problem with this whole situation is that there was obviously no weapon. So, yes, opening fire was a terrible decision.

California Police are the worst. Especially LA Cops who are worse than the gang members that live in their city.

These are LA County Sherrifs who responded, because this was in the city of West Hollywood, not LAPD. They are totally separate agencies. One is for the county of LA and serves many small cities that do not have their own police forces and unincorporated areas in LA county and has a better track record, while the latter serves the city of LA only and deals with the gang problems of that city.

Lot of people in this thread expressing opinions as if they were there and saw the whole thing go down. Add in preconceived notions and the whole thread gets real sad real quick, even if they're right.

Not their fault necessarily, but it definitely highlights one of the negatives of how connected our society is these days and how fast information can flow that people will then interpret based on their own beliefs if it's correct or incorrect.

Except the person who go killed was not a knife wielding psycho. The problem is not that their was no weapon. The problem is the police officers in this particular situation choose so poorly they shot and killed an innocent person and shot the another victim in the process as well. That is a lot of collateral damage which should not have happened if they would have better handled the situation. Two innocent people shot with one being dead from said gun shots.
