Do you think you can play close to a million games on pc with emulation included?

Not even close to that amount. I have complete game collection htmls for pretty much every system from the beginning up to the 6th gen consoles, including Arcades, DOS and home computers, even some Japan only systems. All of them, together, are less than 100.000 unique titles, excluding clones and different regions ofc.

That excludes Windows games and all modern games after 6th gen. These include all the indie games in existence as well. Not sure how many those could be but i would bet all videogames in existence are less than 300.000

I dont think there is more than 10k video games though.
A successful console such as the PS2 has more than 3.000 unique titles by itself alone.

I have a backlog of around 2 thousand games

I play around 50 games a year. I'm 40. If I wanted i could spend most of my life without buying a new game.

What do you want a million games for?
Probably for AI training purposes. They will run all these games through numerous simulations simultaneously, then later compile it all to make the ultimate gamer.

Really? i find that hard to believe, i count all my played games and they are around 400. To think there is more than 10k games is ridiculous. I have been gaming for more than 20 years.
Are you counting games that are 30 minutes with 10mb size or flash games on the web like miniclip?

I'm only counting officially released games.

Here's a rough estimation of how many games a lot of systems have:

Look at the "total games" column. And keep in mind, these HTMLs are heavily curated (except for the arcades and some home computers, where they also count clones and multi-disks as separate games). Many of the console ones are missing a lot of games, at least from my experience using them for my emulation needs.

Only in steam there are around 50,000 unique titles. This list doesn't include demos or dlc: just games.

Now, I'm sure you have your own definition of a game (we all do) and sure, there's a lot of porn, joke games, visual novels and asset flips. But if only a fifth of the total Steam library was legit we would already be at the 10k mark

If you're including emulation? And you're willing to include every shitty mobile flappy bird clone that exists as a "game?" Yeah probably.

I have around 27,000 games on my computer, in a well curated emulation collection. All unique titles, no regional variations, covering nearly every system from second gen (Atari etc) through sixth gen (PS2/GC/Xbox). Some day I will play them all, I swear.

Looks like there is a lot of games, i still have yet to cross 500 played games.

How do you know the number of games you played in your life though? That's harder and more time consuming to figure out compare to finding out how many game there are IMO. I play games for a little longer than you though (32 years) and started emulating games in 1999 so i must have played a few thousands.

I mean... if you just asked google before you post..

"The very first video game ever invented involved simple table tennis. Today, there are over five million games in existence. From high-speed racing adventures to perilous virtual dueling matches, there's a genre for everyone to enjoy."

How many total games have been made?

After doing some research, our total comes out to 1181019. This includes 33554 games on Steam, 199 games on Uplay, 3125 games on GoG, 327491 games on Google Play, 811911 games on the App Store, 1893 games for the PS4, 1760 games for the Xbox One, and 2330 games for the Nintendo Switch."

Considering every system has been emulated on PC up to the PS4 era... you have your answer bud.

I use tracking websites like Backloggd and Howlongtobeat and Backloggery. You log in the games you played and you put games you didnt play on the backlog so you play it for later.

Those numbers only include games available on digital stores. Anything before that is ignored?

I had no idea mobile game stores have that many games in them. Talk about huge piles of shovelware...

Still, even counting the huge mobile phone lists, there's still no way you can reach the 5 million mark as the previous post implies. Even if you count each region release separately.
