Total Solar Eclipse (US) of 2017

I think people who are underwhelmed aren't really appreciating the actual science of what they're seeing.

Even in Phoenix it was pretty neat to see it through glasses (last time I had to use a pinhole viewer) with partial coverage. Just really consider how amazing it is for too celestial bodies to line up in such a way for you to experience an immediate and real impact on your environment.

I've currently got my blinds open to keep an eye on the brightness. Max coverage should be happening in a few minutes here, but some clouds just passed over, blocking the sun and totally faked me out, I felt like a dumbass lol.

I'm just going to look at the sun without glasses at 99.6% for a second Everyone has looked at the sun for a second sometime in their life. Shit doesn't happen. The only question is if I can see anything

I think those saying they're underwhelmed can'tbe in the path of totality. If you saw 100% and were underwhelmed by that, something is seriously wrong. That was absolutely breathtaking, nothing like even the 99.5% the minute beforehand.

Move. Drive. 100% is MAGNITUDES different and logscales more impressive.

I used the solar eclipse glasses and looked at it briefly for about 15 seconds. Feeling a bit strange right now.

I wonder how many little kids are going to wind up with fucked up eyes from this. Me and my coworkers went outside our building to check it out and saw some woman and her 3 or 4 year old kid just staring up at the sky without glasses until someone ran up and covered the kids eyes. People are pretty dumb

Half an hour left. Clouds and thunder increasing.

Friend who didn't drive down (and probably try to propose) probably made the better call.

It's getting that shady haze out here in northern Alabama. Think about 15 minutes from the max amount of eclipse

As the last sliver of the sun disappears you take off your glasses and see this majestic view of a perfect black circle with a fiery rim and the massive plumes of the sun's corona shooting out from behind it. The light all around you drops into dusk in a matter of seconds. So awesome.

There's always one creative writing major...

That was amazing. Never seen anything like that before. It was surreal how off the lighting felt when it was covered the most. Got a bit chilly too.

Only partial but I got to fucking see in here in Akron, OH. One of our managers at work has the glasses and let everyone outside use them.

Its pretty fucking amazing to see the moon passing in front as a big black orb. Its also gotten noticeably dimmer outside.

Just had a solid minute and a half of totality. It was pretty fucking metal. The moon blocked out the sun in a perfect circle and it was some Dark Souls shit.

Absolutely. Mind completely blown.

This is binary. 99.9% doesn't cut it. If any part of the sun remained bright enough to require eclipse glasses, you didn't see the mind blowing part.

We got a good 2 minutes of totality. We drove from Boise up to Sweet, Idaho. My dad grew up there and took us on some back roads to a place where no one else was. The whole valley went dark, stars came out, and you could see the lights from people's houses like it was dusk. The whole thing was incredible. Now I kinda want to make a trip to see the next one.
