Video is too clean for that campy look. These low budget flicks from the 80's depended on grainy film, shitty lighting, over exposure, and lots of other film attributes, as well as being seen on a 480p 19 inch CRT TV with VHS scan lines
Modern recording techniques strip away the hazy of indie grunge and leaves it too bare.

While it does look a bit ridiculous with the height, I guess the type of film it is makes it a bit more tolerable.
I think if they tried to make a more serious film, which I kind of expected when Dinklage got involved, then it would've looked more stupid.
