USA Today is reporting that a brand new edition of Toy Story, the landmark computer-animated film from Disney and Pixar, will be arriving this September 6th. The 10th Anniversary edition will feature improved video and sound quality, with the sound being enhanced by Lucasfilm's Gary Rydstrom, winner of seven Academy Awards and a member of the Toy Story production team. Extras on this two-disc set will include a Legacy of Toy Story featurette, which includes interviews with celebrated filmmakers on the importance of the film, credited with launching the trend away from traditional hand-drawn animation, a new "making of" documentary, 10 deleted scenes, early animation tests and a new music video of Lyle Lovett and Randy Newman singing You've Got a Friend in Me. We'll bring you further details on this one shortly.

...if they make me double dip after shelling out the money for the Toy Box a few years back, I'll be angry. This new "making of" feature seems to be the only thing of any interest; the other stuff is all recycled.

While Disney is at it, they should really get on releasing that Lilo and Stitch Special Edition. Please?

Oh, god, yes. And it's been out in Australia for, like, a year now.

EDIT: Lilo & Stitch 2 (I know, I know) is out in August... they may release the special edition to coincide with that. I can hope.

Exactly...I mean, one would think that releasing it at the same time as Lilo and Stitch 2 would make a whole lot of sense...but no. Nothing. It sits there, likely complete, waiting for a "perfect time" for them to release it. Sigh.

You'd think...but I don't believe anything is scheduled. We were both thinking, though.

Hmm, this sounds like something Disney is doing without Pixar's participation. The documentary sounds like it features a bunch of people talking about Pixar. Not to mention the obligatory music video Disney feels some need to produce for their two disc special editions.

I've already got the Ultimate Toy Box set, so I think I'll be passing on some minor update.

I must be the only person in the world who was somehow disappointed with the Ultimate Toy Box, I blame all the hype... I sold my box shortly after getting it, so I'll probably get this SE.

It's not really a fantastic DVD set by "today's" standards. The problem is that animated films have only storyboard deleted scenes, so there really isn't much for them to work with. As a whole, the set was the best that could be done at the time. Commentaries, extensive features on sound and animation, and enough making-of features to create a good and complete set. But, as it stands, it remains the only way to own the films with real features.

Ultimate Disney has the Lilo & Stitch Special Edition set for around the sequel's release, but without a specific date yet. They're pretty much always on top of this stuff.

As with all of Disney's most popular releases, it was discontinued. Toy Story DVDs haven't been produced in two years now, and the medium has only grown.

that's the one thing I really hate about disney
how they release a movie on home format for like 18 months then they stop making it and you have to wait for ever for it to come out again, I need to pick up some of the disney releases I like before they dissapear for a decade

specialy with the double disc sets, I missed the Tarzan one when it came out and now I never see it anywhere even used :(

anyway about this

I don't know I'm kind of on the fence, I own the ultimate toy box so I'm not sure If I'll pick this one depends on what the extra features are like

Yeah, agreed. I stupidly procrastinated on grabbing the Snow White and Beauty and the Beast sets, and now my only choices are to pay a fortune for them or wait 7-8 years for the next release. It's infinitely frustrating. I understand the reasoning, but it's fucking evil, and that's coming from a stockholder.

I had that Toy Story 1 and 2 double pack DVD, which is pretty rare. Then my dad made me lend it to the kids of his coworker and I never got it back. =(

I've been picking them up since Beauty and the Beast...I admittedly never got into the classics as a kid so I'm skipping those, but I wouldn't miss out on Lion King and the like...I'll probably skip the rest outside of Lilo and Stitch, though.

I won't sleep easily about Lilo and Stitch until I get an official date...I don't trust them with it.

yeah I understand why they do it

they re-introduce the movies to a new generation and they sell like hotcakes disney has been doing it for ages now but it doesn't make it anyless annoying

why I grabbed the alladin and lion king box sets when they came out
though I know theres a bigger Bugs Life set that I saw once years ago and didnt have the money to get it then and now I cant find it anywhere not even on ebay,

though honestly I hate how all companies have so many different versions of movies out on dvd

My most hated re-release was the Ultimate Jordan dvd. It's fucking ultimate! And then his 20th anniversary hits, and they release 20th Anniversary Ultimate Jordan. Basically 5 of his best games, in their entirety. I'd of love to have those on dvd :-/

Yeah but that was a whole 18 months ago. Make sure to buy now before it gets locked away in the Disney vault FOREVER*!

*Until we realize we can milk it for even more money in another year or so. Then it really will be locked in the Disney vault FOREVER*!
