My fav track has to be this one.
I remember playing that one the other night, also one of my faves so far.

Amazing job on the theming, the section at the 1 minute mark is mental.

Pretty much finished my second track. I'd like to add an intros before uploading them though, anyone know any good tutorials? I'm completely lost in the mediatracker.

Is there a good way to add a little more deadzone to the 360 controller?

While you're on a track, push in the stick and you'll get some options to pull up. Go to advanced controller options and deadzone is one of three categories you can adjust.

Quick question.. Are they going to reset the ranks and ladder points upon release? Been kind of pushing to be in the top 10 for Florida, haha! Then I remembered this was only the beta and got to wondering....

I am seriously using this when the game comes out. Looks gorgeous, I can't even tell it's some sort of mod, and it's much easier, and more beautiful on the eyes than a canyon setting.

Or I'll just switch between both, it will feel like I have 2 environments. Speaking of which, will they add more down the line?

Yes, they will add more enviroments down the line.

I think Nadeo's plan for development moving forward is like: Trackmania 2: Canyon (2011) -> Shootmania (2012) -> Trackmania 2: new content (2012) -> Shootmania: new content (2012/2013) -> Questmania (2013) -> and so on.

I bought and downloaded the game/beta, but am a little overwhelmed by all the gfx options There's a bunch of stuff in the Compatability tab that I have no idea on. It seems weird that it lists maximum frames as 150, and Display rate as 0.

Most games detect that I'm on a TV. Google searches don't yield much on the settings. Is there an FAQ I'm missing? I'm looking forward to playing, but I don't want to screw anything up until I know what these levers and knobs all do.

Is anyone else playing this on an m11x R2? I set Optimus to use dedicated graphics of course, but I'm pretty underwhelmed at the performance.

I'm running at 720p with 0 antialiasing and using 2 steps down from the top-end preset...getting around 30fps average :-(

Honestly, I would rank this behind Island and Stadium. I really hope the official release straightens out the performance issues and reignites my interest with time trials in single-player.

One of the many reasons I haven't played the game in over a week. I'm still annoyed I can't buy it on Steam because they want to use maniaplanet as a platform. Unless something changes with the single player this is just TMUF with a new coat of paint, no reason it shouldn't be on Steam. And I'm annoyed I have two separate log ins, for TM2 and TMUF. If you're gonna try to sell me on the idea of games as a service on a platform you developed, make it all one fucking log in for all of them. Even EA didn't fuck that up.

With that said, one of the bigger issues is the community maps are so fucking bad. Hopefully the developer ones can save the game.

I don't even know what this is :( It is the reason why even If I do the perfect lap, people seem to shave 5+ seconds off my times?

I can't tell if these people ranked in the hundreds are just that good or robots.

Yea, speed boost at start, unless he means some other bug. This one is the only one I know of.

I'm not taking it particularly seriously at this point, just enjoying rolling about the pack. Really enjoying when I do jump in for a bit of a rip around the track.

Actually glad to see that glitch was posted. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why I sucked so badly. I'm not the best player, I'll readily admit, but to pull off a lap with very few flaws and then look at the leaderboard is a large part of why I've soured so badly (that and the bland environment and tracks). Nice to know there's some explanation for it.

I was kind of sympathetic about why they wanted the Mania Planet platform when it was launched, but I've changed on that too. This really isn't a sequel. It's just another environment. I can't really see anywhere where they've made monumental strides. It really does seem like it's running the Island engine with a couple features tacked on (that stresses performance in odd ways).

Can't really see Shootermania being a big hit either. The net code in this game is awful. It's not that important because of the nature of how this game works, but having car constantly flickering in and out (or worse, flying up and done) is enough to make me hit reset on some laps and get behind someone else. There have been zero improvements from previous games. Almost wish the options actually worked and I could limit visible opponents to 1 car. It's not like collisions exist, so why make me watch distracting things bobbing all around me.

Again, I understand why it's usually not a big deal (as long as they're not 5 feet in front of you), but this type of net code would make a shooter worthless. Can't really see the other entities in the Mania series being all that popular. They make a very good game that serves an under-served niche, but that's about it. It's not like they're a AAA developer that can pull off whatever they're attempting to do. The other genres they're attempting aren't abandoned like this one.

Yeah, this is barely a sequel. Unless the final game is the resurrection of Christ, I don't see any reason that this is the official sequel while Sunrise/Nations aren't. Maybe if custom blocks were implemented...

It's a good thing that the car is so goddamned great. And once the single player mode is patched it, we can get a better sense of the track variety.

It IS one login. The account linking system is a buggy mess so it doesn't like to recognize your old account without a workaround but it's definitely possible.

The Beta just got an update.

http://forum.maniaplanet.com/viewtopic.php?f=245&t=4832

Hi!

A new version of the beta is available. It will install automatically through the in-game updater.

However, since the updater in Beta3 is a bit limited, the update sequence is going to be clumsy, please bear with us!

You will have to launch again maniaplanet many times and exceptionnally download large files

The overall download size is: 330Mo.

The game first downloads the new updater, and asks to restart.
Then the launcher completes this first part of the update (requesting administrator rights twice)
When you launch the game again, it will complete the update.
An other restart of the game is required for the launcher to complete the installation.
Done. Enjoy the new version!

Some changes:

improved updater
improved multiplayer experience, with a new podium sequence, smoother map loading.
a few new blocks, including coloring lights in freeride and gp tilt transitions
new mediatracker features, including the global clip
camera 1 and 3 are changed and can change again later
import of cars possible with damage and suspensions
Bug fixes:
* known start tricks have been removed
* the rounds mode now works better (ladder, other cars are less jumpy..)
* many others...

Caveats:
A few things have changed in this version that need special attention:

warning all input bindings are reset to default.

warning the car models from TMF no longer work, you need to use car specifically made for ManiaPlanet.

warning Maniascript syntax has changed slightly regarding libraries, so scripts may no longer work and need to be updated.

warning While previous maps are compatible, it will display nothing in multiplayer ending sequence. You will have to put a podium block in your maps and compute shadows again.

warning There are a few incompatible changes in the manialinks:
* the "addplayerid" feature has been removed (there's a new authentication system "ManiaConnect ")
* the useragent in http requests has been changed.

warning It is very common during many previous beta in years that players think that we changed the gameplay. It is often a perception, we have not volontary changed the gameplay. PF are no longer compatible because of start bloc change.

Yeah. I really expected a completely overhauled and streamlined interface. The car and controls are incredible, but everything else is a letdown.

The new patch is pretty awesome. It fixed a lot of connection issues I had with the game. Each track loads super fast now and I don't get kicked out after the first race (at least for now).

Also, I saw someone with a Halo car. It was clearly an image applied to the skin texture. I'm glad to see that there is a way to do that. I'm gonna try to find the tutorial, I' want to mod my car so bad.

I'm playing this with my 360 controller and for some reason it won't let me assign left/right to the dpad. Anyone have this issue or maybe a fix?

EDIT: Fuck, I posted in the wrong thread. :(

Wrong thread, but no. Think you might be able to get around this with motionjoy or something, but not with official drivers. Pretty ridiculous they let you navigate the menus with d-pad, but it's a no go for driving with stock 360 drivers.

From a Nadeo developer themselves on their boards, the accounts are not linked. You could use your previously log in but it was/is a ass backwards way to do it, in how you were suppose to do it. And they wouldn't change it for me.

Edit: Boo, smh I didn't read the date.

So it's 2 1/2 months since Trackmania 2 was released. I haven't played in around a month and decided to try it out again and this is what I'm faced with.

PrkNz.jpg

There is NO ONE playing the fucking game. Now I acknowledge that the game is much more popular in Europe, and it is currently 0500 CET, but still. Are Nadeo and Ubisoft satisfied with this? The word that comes to mind is 'pathetic'. One after another my favorite servers went from populated to empty-almost always empty, and it is one of the reasons why I stopped playing when other games came out. So fucking disappointing.

Is anyone here still playing at all? Thread is certainly dead.

I want to play it more. They nailed a lot of things right with the handling. The problem is I much, much prefer to play the game's solo mode and get high places on the leaderboard, but the 5 minute timer between official races is maddening.

Yeah I stopped playing a month back as well. At this point their best bet is to release the other environments for free to get people back.

Ya, I agree. I stopped playing as the one setting got boring. If they charge more than a dollar or two for different environments, I'm out.

I'm pretty sure I read here that Nadeo was planning on making different environment/cars stand alone products though. If true, that's going to backfire on them.

The same reason I stopped playing, I like setting times and trying to beat other people's times but that timer is painful.

A great shame really, TM2 is a fantastic game otherwise.

I'm still playing but yeah, sad to see not that many people online these days. Probably because the recent wave of AAA games...

Anyways, I really like this game but the problem I have with it is that most of the tracks feel like....regular racing tracks, if you know what I mean. I was kinda expecting more of the batshit insane "platform" tracks like United had.

I'm 80% sure there were patch notes about this. Nerfed timer or some such.

My beef with the game is the focus on ribbon-thin tracks with a car that just wants to DRIFT.

"I'm 80% sure there were patch notes about this. Nerfed timer or some such."

They removed the timer on initial start up, so you can do an official race immediately. That means it actually takes less time to do an official run, close the game, restart it and try again than to wait normally.

My issue exactly. Would have loved to have dug into the single player, but between the absurdly tight tracks and that timer, no. That timer just makes blood fill in my eyes. My rage meter can't take it. And even when I do dial in a tight track for official races, I completely psyche myself out.

It's cool that they've made it so you can restart the game and bypass the timer, but that's not enough. Bring back the mania planet coins for that. Other than paying 100 coins to redownload the game, I've not seen a single use for coins in this new version. Dumb.

67 000+ copies sold? NICE.

I wonder why.

They certainly made it difficult to purchase. I wonder if some people just said eff it when they kept getting their credit card protection declining it.

after witnessing the huge, ip founding success of the freemium trackmania: nations model, driven by the exposure granted by being one of the first such endeavours on steam, ubi decided to raise a stiff middle finger to every marketing facet of the first game's success in order to funnel 100% of the profits into their own coffers.

while i'm certainly not one to worship at the "games as a service" altar, it's hard to find a candidate more suitable for a multi-tiered payment scheme than trackmania; with its total marketplace invisibility due to its absence from steam being the icing on the myopic ubisoft cake.

I liked the free trackmanias. Is this still worth
grabbing? Or should I just get the one from steam?
I'd suggest getting Trackmania United. There's a metric ton of content compared to the comparatively lean Canyon. And while I want to marry the hyper-drifty Canyon car, the tracks themselves are very good at keeping you from, you know, drifting. You also won't have to deal with that ridiculous 5-minute limit on official races.

I should of clarified

1. TM2 in the "hopes" that more content will come
2. TMU on Steam

Yeah. If you've never played either, United >>>>> Canyon IMO.

OMFG, yes! This! Canyon gets my award for Biggest Tease of the Year. So fun on tracks built around this drifting, yet we get an endless series of bicycle trails littered with obstacles.

I've hardly played it since I got it but when I do I prefer the single player mode. That timer is ridiculous though - who thought that was a good idea?

I bought TM2 after having a lot of fun with Nations and United Forever in single player on Steam. I hope the additional environments won't be too expensive, the variety in United Forever was one of the reasons I liked it.

Yeah, I knew what you were asking. Get United.

Actually putting this to text makes me sad. I was so ridiculously excited for Trackmania 2. Maybe that second environment will be better! Maybe they'll revamp Canyon along with a Steam release! Maybe!
