Trading in my DS

Ok seriously, I got some questions though.

Do you need everything? Box/instructions/whatever? Or can I just walk into a local EB and plop down my DS like "yo trade dis in"?

Also, do they do any checks on it to make sure it works?

My DS' L trigger doesnt register (it does, but not as perfect/common as the R), so I was thinking of stashing it over at a store and using the credit towards a sexy blue DS.

Warranty is a full year. People talk about how good they are with returns, but I don't know if I've heard of someone doing so based on not-quite-perfect-L.
 
Ok let's just ignore the whole warranty angle, since I'm pretty positive that this DS is more than a year old. And my serial number is faded to the point where I can't see it (it's just a white square!)

Let's focus more on the store. How do they do things. Where are my EB/GS/FUCKALL employees!
 
I never traded in a DS, but I did trade in a PS2 a few weeks back. I gave them the console and all of the cables -- no box or manual -- and they gave me the credit, without checking to see if it functioned.

1. Sign up for an account.
2. List the item at the price you want, or auction it at a range you'd like.
3. Collect payment via PayPal.
4. Send it off.
5. Blue DS FTW.

How about I just sell it right here on GAF instead.

GAF, buy my DS. I'll even autograph it with a Sharpie and doodle on the meebles for you.

If you wanted to do the right thing you could ebay it but be up-front about the crappy trigger. Otherwise throw it in the bin and buy a new one.

I don't know how it works in the US but in Australia if you trade in a machine at EB they take your licence details so if you sell them something that's broken or stolen I imagine they would contact you about it.

:lol Well trading it in to EB and hoping they don't check if it works OK doesn't really sound like "the right thing".

I just had this image of some poor widowed washer woman splashing out her year's savings on a 2nd hand DS for poor little 5 year old Kevin, housebound after having his legs amputated and going through 5 weeks of chemo, and little Kevin's washed out pruny face lighting up at seeing his new DS with MarioKart, and then tragically losing all his races to that bitch Princess Peach because he can't use the mushroom.

Poor, poor Kevin.
 
Hey man, you buy used, you better know what you're getting yourself into.

That's always been the way it works.

Little Kevin just needs to learn the hard way, I guess.

I haven't read any of this thread properly, because I'm a very busy man.

But.

I agree with trading in broken consoles, it's always worth a shot.

And so, thanks again to Shekhana Consoles of North London. I traded in my 'self-modded' Super Famicom because after I took a hacksaw to it to 'expand' the cart slot for US games, it never worked again. They didn't even ask questions when I traded it in for another SNES.

And they had my details (for the last 10 years + ), and never contacted me to call me a sneaky piking bastard. Which was a result.

To do this successfully, you'll need:

1) To be outrageously handsome like me. Even very heterosexuals will do what I ask if I give them the look

2) To find an employee with a lazy eye. If they are lazy and/or blind they won't notice defects.

3) To bang on about the fact you really want a blue DS. If you convince them you're the kind of freak who trades in a machine at a crap rate in order to rebuy one that's a different colour, they'll assume you don't have the wit to be so corrupt.

So this is what you do.

1. Find the box and all your equipment.
2. Go to Best Buy or EB and go to Customer service.
3. Say " I got this as a X-Mas present and I would like to buy a warrnty"
4. Pay 20 dollars for a 2-year warrenty.
5. Next week (or new Store) remove the battery pack, or point out the broken L button.
6. Bring up the Blue DS for a even exchange using the warrenty.
7. Rinse and repeat every time a new color comes out.

The way of Nintendo, and a poor boy.
 
It's worth noting that Nintendo is really good with exchanging faulty systems, as well as ridiculously lenient. I sent a GBA SP in to them that had an R button that only worked half the time, and they just went ahead and sent me a brand new SP within a week or so.

Now, if your primary aim is to change the color of your DS for free, then they probably won't help you there.
