trading in xbox...

my xbox went dead...I am going to trade it in at ebgames. Do they check ur systems? Do they accept dead systems?
Well it turns on. But something went wrong with it, the open/close tray button is also the only way u can turn on/off the system, so there is no way u can play it cos whenever I close the tray, the system closes itself too...argh...

Unless you go to the laziest store on the planet, yes at the very least they are going to test that thing comes on, takes a game and loads said game.

No I do not believe they take dead systems.

Don't do it to one you go to regularly, that's for sure.

But I'm confused... if the button causes it to turn on and off, can't you just open it, put the disc in, then push on the tray slightly to have it auto-close? Most disc trays allow you to do that, just give it a gentle nudge back, and it should retract in.

hmmm that's interesting...let me try that....
but even if that works, am I going to instruct the eb guy to do that? :lol

ya that works...if I nudge the tray to closes the system, the xbox is still turned on...and it can still play games...just that the power on and off is dead....

Why not just keep it then?

ah well, if ebgames dont accept the system then I'll go to a gamestop...thanks

And just tell them right from the start that it has problems. Don't try to cheat them and cause a hassle for the person that buys it later.

My guess is that he doesn't listen to you.

I don't know what the hell you guys are talking about because I've had multiple broken systems and I've always traded them in with no questions asked.

So if it is a Gamecube you have to give them 25 bucks?

Refurb for GC costs $15-$20, meaning you get $5 in store credit or so.

They'll check with one of the games they have in stock. And they should do blue and silver disk. I also know that Gamestop has stopped taking back broken large PS2s.

My system is on its last legs too. How much did they give you for the system itself?

At Gamestop it's $70 for the system I think.

If the X360 works on the VIP program (ask them) you'll get an extra $14. If you have the Game informer card and the July issue (I think it's the July issue), you can get an extra 50% credit on the 4 games worth the most (everything else will be the extra 20%). Even if your system is broken you should still get the extra $14, because the 50 subtracts afterwards.

If you have none of that... head over to another store with better deals. :)

Not quite sure which store it was but I remember some months ago that an EB or GameStop clerk telling me that they give you 30 dollars credit for a dead Xbox system. You may as well take the money and move on,its better than keeping a dead suitcase you know.
