Hopefully SC remake will be done soon, it's best to play FC and SC remake back to back, absolutely the most optimal way to experience this.

Wait is this really 60? I played the demo in hamdheld and it felt like 30 to me
There is unfortunately no Switch 2 demo. If you play the demo on Switch 2, you're just playing the Switch 1 version.

What other games in this series (or others) play like this game with a mix of real time and turn based combat?

I am loving this game so much. I loved it on the psp too when it was turn-based but the job they did here is amazing! I get a sense of elation playing this game, similar to how playing games on the ps1 used to be back in the day. Ys 7 and 8 were similar, party based action combat. This one does both and I think thats what elevates it.

The latest arc. The Daybreak games. The orbment system is better in the Daybreak games as well.

Finally got my copy from amazon, and im loving it.

didnt like the "direct combat" mode, but the "command mode" is just... chef kiss
The action combat is there so you can take out weak enemies faster, the core combat is its turn based which it's fantastic.

In person the switch 2 looks amazing for this game and its fluid 60, well I think it is, it feels like it in smoothness of animations. I have not seen any stutters or anything yet. I play on both docked and hand held. I haven't popped it into my switch oled to compare yet.
Feels like I'm one of the only ppl online acknowledging that it actually looks really damn good on Switch 2, whereas everyone else is more concerned pointing out the fact that it's not a super locked/stable 60fps docked, when it's still looks and runs more than acceptable (esp consindering its @2160p).

I'd honestly go so far in calling this the best way to play the game since you have both tv and handheld options to play, esp if you primarily play in handheld since it performs much better than on Steam Deck which caps @ ~45fps and even then still has multiple dips (on an 800p screen)

Why TF is the TAA option only in the PC version?

Anti aliasing on PS5 looks like a relic of the X360 era here, everything looks so shimmery, doubly noticeable in motion.

got my copy of Trails in the Sky today. got the ps5, probably should have gotten switch just for an excuse to use up more memory on that. fuck how big games are, and how small the ps5 memory size is. maybe now i finally see why Estelle is 'best girl'
ignored her in the games i played mostly and never really added her to the party

runs like a dream on pc for me. loved the original and this is as good as a remake can get i suppose. i do feel the lack of real ambushes in the world (at least so far in the rolent chapter still) though, in the OG you at least had to put in some attention when traversing the world, but i guess its not really possible to compare the old systems to the new one. I enjoy the enhanced Calvard COmbat System, but for me personally reverie is still peak gameplay fun with trails

I was finding the story a bit slow for the prologue and first half of chapter 1 but it's really starting to pick up now. Basically from meeting Olivier onward has been better in that regard -- he's great and adds a fun dynamic to the party that was missing (I haven't played the original so not sure what to expect).

The story picks up here and there but it's not really until the second game where it all comes together and is non stop peak trails. They were supposed to be one game I read someone say. It makes a lot of sense with the way things play out in the first.

I don't like the action combat style at all from what I seeing so far in Skies. Just gonna stick to turn based forever. If I want action combat I play a tales game

I just used it for quick battles really. Jumping into turn based just to one shot everything was a waste of time.

You're not really meant to do lots of action combat, it's more just to stun / gain advantage before going in to turn based, or to quickly dispatch lower leveled enemies. It's very simplistic action combat because of that -- all the strategy and real gameplay is in the turn based, the boss fights don't even give you a chance to do action they go straight in to turn based.

Running into a lot of characters in Sky that end up appearing for like 10 minutes in cold steel where I was probably suppose to clap like a sitcom with a studio audience.

*random bracer character appears*
*studio audience claps and cheers*

Me: "ok"

What other games in this series (or others) play like this game with a mix of real time and turn based combat?

Metaphor ReFantazio, FFVII Remake trilogy, the last 2 Yakuza RPGs and Hyperdimension Neptunia are probably the closest to Trails combat which introduced the dual combat system with Trails through Daybreak.

The Magic of Scheherazade for the NES was the first game to have dual combat systems, Zelda real time combat and Turn based menu battles.

Also Super Ninja Boy for the SNES.

There's something charming and cozy about how these games look.

The coziness is a lot more apparent here than the last two Calvard arc games, which I haven't liked nearly as much as the TiTS and/or Cold Steel games.

Couldn't resist the urge and went ahead and got the game. I'm loving the new engine and the way everything looks. Started on Nightmare and so far it hasn't been to bad and but I can tell it's going to be rough for a bit until I unlock more stuff. EVA tank should work just fine in this game though.

I really like the Magic effects in HDR they really shine "specially Aqua and Fire looks very vibrant and are Popping so much on my screen, i sadly don't know how to take screenshots in HDR though, so i just say that in words, The green grass and blue skies As well as the Ocean looks also amazing.

If anyone is wanting to do HDR on PC there is a RenoDX mod for it out can be found on the RenoDX public discord, as far as i know its based on the Demo
so hasn't been fully tested but so far its been really good, I do have a problem with the Lens effect from the Sun making a weird graphical effect when you look directly on the sun at Sunset. but its a minor thing, compared to what the game offers in HDR.

The Native HDR solution in the Game is not true HDR as far as i understand its to bright and kills some of the details. so thats why i am using the RenoDX solution myself.

You know what grinds my gears.

Why can't the game decide once which kind of text box it wants to use for conversation scenes. Sometimes it's the scenes where there's a single subtitle-like-box at the bottom of the screen, sometimes it's individual speech bubbles over the speakers heads.

Nitpicking, I know.

Everything looks so cozy, friendly, and nice, but meanwhile, there's terrible, horrible stuff happening in the plot of the games.

Wrapped up Chapter 1 at 27 hours. This is gonna be way longer that my FC playthrough, I'm taking it real slow and chilling, like I usually do with Trails.

The game seems to be balanced well if you don't try to min max on Normal. You still need to use your head to win otherwise you will get obliterated. The party is becoming increasingly strong though, so I'm going to switch to Hard in Chapter 2 most likely.

Btw thank god for fast travelling. It makes the game 100% better. In the original you had to walk back and forward to talk to all NPCs (and that's the reason I gave up on that in FC),

Now that I've noticed I can't unsee that. :messenger_weary:

I'm sorry :(

I like the single box more cause I don't have to dart my eyes left and right between each line.

Chapter 2 story beat:
Nice orphanage you've got here, would be a shame if someone sets fire to it with all the kids still inside.

I'm playing on hard right now. Wiped a few times from bad counters. Or bad status rolls. Definitely feels cozier than cold steel with the smaller cast.

In the old games did they have the fast forward running speed? I feel like I would go crazy on the regular movement speed

Yeah. All the games have fast forward.

I do love the mixing of the orbments to unlock skills. Always keep checking the menu and planning my next orb after the next unlock.
I understand changing to an easier way in the other games with it being mostly just stat sticks and the moves all just be attached, it be torture trying to keep tracking of orbment mix combinations for 20+ characters in the later games.

Yeah, they introduced those features with updates for the Cold Steel games and retro-fitted them even in the original PC releases of the Trails in the Sky games.

They're kinda very good QoL but a bit bizarre when you think about it, one of the best features of this JRPG is the ability to let you get through it at 2x the speed, lol.

Are there enough slots though? Seems like there's a very small number to play with.
Slots may be, but I doubt that there are enough accessories. Is this game even have Evergreen? Well I mean not enough for >80% EVA. It seems realistic to build 50-60% EVA though, so far I have 40% on Joshua and I'm only in the first chapter.

40% and only in the first chapter so yea 50-60 should be doable and I think that will be enough. Combine that with Earth wall and he should be a great tank. Are you evading a lot already? I had no build on Joshua and just one quartz and he was already evading more than I would think.

It's fun when you can line everything up to basically just roll without the enemy ever getting any attacks in, even in boss fights. I focused on
Josette
at the end of chapter 1 because I wanted to avoid her petrify attacks in that group fight and I think she only attacked once, haha.

Strangely not that much, I feel like Estelle evading more often and she has only 12%

Finally started playing last night. I think this is probably the best controlling and most polished engine that falcom has put out so far. Not a lot of stiff janky animations and controls.

Quoting myself, yeah it has Cool Necklace+ which gives you 20% EVA so basically same as Evergreen, and with two of them it's really possible to build a proper evade tank with 80%+ EVA

There is a big chunky demo of this game which you can play and decide for yourself if you like this game or not.

I'm absolulty LOVING this game but just because I love the game doesn't mean you will, so its safer to try the demo and see if the game is for you.

Do you like games with very interesting worlds/Lore?
Do you like games with huge casts of interesting and colorful/eccentric characters?
Do you like games with easy-to-learn (yet somewhat deep) combat mechanics?

If you answered "Yes" to at least 2 of those questions then yes, you will like this game/series....and I'm not an "Anime weeb donkey(?)"
