Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Seriously is it actually possible to defeat
Devastator
and
Menasor
at the same time?

So far it seems impossible.

yeah it's rough because even though they're fatties they move really fucking fast and cover huge amounts of space. I focused on piling damage on one of them and then the mop-up was pretty easy, but it was still a huge pain in the ass.

I know there's a model viewer in this game, but are there also character bios? It's been a while since I've been into Transformers (Michael Bay slowly ground the passion I used to have for the series into a bloody, ashen pulp), so I'd love it if this game offers some methods to brush up on the characters and lore. I always prefer reading information like that within game worlds instead of just going to something like wikipedia.

The crit chance from the Crit+ skill might stack additively. With Crit+ lvl 5 giving a 25% chance, stacking 4 of them might just give an overall 50% damage boost.
Did some not-so-scientific testing with Wheeljack vs the first Devastator fight, Commander difficulty, using two Burn Sniper Rifles with similar stats.

Weapon 1, 3277 damage, consistently killed Devastator 10 times in 21 shots.
21 shots = 68817

Weapon 2, 3261 damage, 4x Crit+ Lvl 5, consistently killed Devastator 10 times in 14 shots.
Assuming the Crit+ chances are independent, 4x Crit+ Lvl 5 should be around a 68% chance to crit. With 14 shots, thats an average of 9-10 shots that deal 1.5x damage
9 shots crit, 5 normal damage = 60328.5
10 shots crit, 4 normal damage = 61959
So with an expected crit distribution, I shouldn't be killing Devastator 10 times consistently with only 14 shots.

Instead, having a 100% crit chance with 14 shots is 68481 damage which is a lot closer to Weapon 1's output.

On the Game Informer podcast they said this game was more complicated and more difficult than Bayonetta.

How close is that to the conensus opinion?
Lol, fucking game journalists. If you're looking for informed opinions on technical action games or fighting games, you'd have better luck asking a pod of dolphins.

There's a strong chance that Cthulhu beamed that idea directly into your brain and its creation would ready the world for his catastrophic revival. But that would be a really cool game so I'd say it's worth it.

That's an awfully ignorant thing to say. Maybe you're just reading the wrong sites.
I've been following game media for nearly two decades. I consider myself informed enough to say that, with regard to the technical aspects of certain kinds of titles, game journalists have been embarrassing themselves since before the dawn of the stylish action genre (with the original Devil May Cry). Rare exceptions notwithstanding.

It's not entirely their fault. The demands of their profession—the sheer volume of titles they have to cover, the deadlines, their diverse audience—steer them toward superficial evaluations and an accessible style. Many of them simply don't have the time to get invested in technical genres. Of course, that's where specialists come in. A sports girl, an action game guy. People who know the ins and outs of the kinds of games that would benefit from deeper analysis by genuine fans. I wish quality coverage by qualified people were more common in game journalism.

Holy shiiiiiiiiiiiit

Ecco's Umbran Climax can be "Non-Euclidean Geometry" and involve all kinds of spatial fuckery

Finished the game up tonight. Second half was way easier. Went thru the last 3 chapters without dying once on the warrior difficulty. Maybe that or I just got better towards the end. Either way. I was very impressed by the game and want more.

In my opinion here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
-Amazing gameplay when it comes to the combat and mechanics.
-Beautiful cel-shaded art style that pays homage to the original show.
-Cool blend of driving, shooting and melee make the game feel somewhat varied.
-Plenty of weapons, customization and RPG elements to keep the game fresh.
-Challenge Mode for replayability options.

Cons:
-Game is too short to warrant the $50 price tag IMO. While the game is a lot more fun and good looking compared to The Legend of Korra, their lengths are about the same and Korra is only $15. There's plenty of replayability here between the harder difficulty modes and Challenge Mode but it probably should've been $40 not $50.
-Thrown in bird's eye view perspective mission that adds nothing to the gameplay.
-Only a few areas in the whole game, first area is cool but when you realize it's the only real big area in the game you get disappointed.
-Could've done more with the driving and chase missions to make it feel more Platinum, I'm assuming they wanted to make them cooler/bigger but the budget only allowed for so much.
I've actually heard about the lack in area variety... this was helpful though. I may pick it up later on.

This looks like one of those games where it's a blast to replay levels over and over again. Like Metal Gear Rising. Rising had some dull environments, as well, like the sewers in Mexico. But who notices when you're just zooming through the water, flipping over spider robots and hacking them to pieces? The environments don't need to be varied for me in a game like this. Just inoffensive and nonintrusive, so as to not upstage the big colorful 'bots battling in the middle of the screen.

When it comes to an action game like, what ultimately matters is how well the game plays and thankfully TFD succeeds in that department. That being said, I could of definitely gone for more environment variety. It's literally no exaggeration that this game has basically two backdrops (City and Spaceship). You could definitely tell they were cutting corners with the (little) budget they had. Very unfortunate.

Cant remember the last time I beat a game in nearly one whole sitting. That was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish, despite some weird gameplay moments..whos idea was the top down section?
I have a feeling there's some extra length left in it too, so that's a good thing.
Cool ending, hope they get to do a sequel.

Haven't played the game yet but I saw a glimpse of the top-down section. What's going on there exactly? Does it change the gameplay in any way?

It's quite funny reading people here complain about it being $50. Because in Australia it's also $50, but that's in local currency which translates to about $36USD. I think $50USD is roughly RRP for a new-release game in the US, but $50AUD here is definitely in the "cheap" category for a new title.

Very weird, considering it's normally we Aussies that get dicked around with pricing.

(Note: I'm not complaining about people here complaining about the price. It's just weird to read people talk about this being a full-priced game when over here it'd be considered "budget")

Same gameplay. There's only one forced top down section, it isn't too difficult, and it only lasts three or four minutes tops. Not that I want to see more of it, but it's pretty harmless overall.

Helps, though. I mean, Bayo, Bayo 2, and TW101's environments most certainly didn't hurt those games.

Finished the game on Prime difficulty & even SS'd the Combiner fight in the last chapter, damn I love this game. Also I love how the controller rocks out during the end credits.

I wonder why they changed the perspective then. I suppose it would change your spatial awareness and make you play a bit differently even if the mechanics are the same.

Or maybe it's a weird experimental moment, i.e. "We want you to feel like a kid looking down into your toybox and playing with your action figures!"

It definitely does. Glad its only one section, as its harder to gauge the incoming attacks from the Decepticons.

Mechanically identical to the rest of the game, but it's tedious due to having to lug around an explosive lego block very slowly, plus it does indeed mess with your spatial awareness and ability to gauge distances.

Alternatively, from Magnus difficulty onwards:

I used like four auto-repair kits there, no lie. That part was so easy on Warrior and Commander :l

Maybe I shouldn't be devoting all of my tech to rare weapon %+ lol

Also, I found double jumping and throwing the block, grabbing it again, and repeating to speed up the process somewhat (or could be placebo, who knows)

My eyes are full of fuck

Looks like your i-frames won't carry you through four guys with sledgehammers at once, eh

fun fact you can just throw the energon cube at the enemies and keep shooting it to keep blowing it up. It won't disappear. It does a lot of damage with each explosion.

You can create tech (equippable perks) to grant extra i-frames. Maybe that's the key.

edit - ^ I tried shooting the block but still got fucked up. Perhaps I need to git gud.

LOL. Oh god. That looks so crazy. I plan on playing through each difficulty with each character, saving loot and credits for each subsequent playthrough. Is that a pretty good idea? I don't really know the proper path to take through Commander onward.

I totally forgot that I added this game to my GameFly queue. I think it arrived last Thursday but an incredibly hectic weekend meant I put it in a pile of mail and forgot I had it until I saw this thread.
Even better is I am off from work the next two days and although I have some errands to run I'll definitely have some time to check this out.
Going to be hard pulling myself away from the Uncharted Collection but since I own it digitally I know it will always be there.
Devastation it is tomorrow. Kinda psyched after reading the impressions in this thread.

For the top-down battle just roll into the enemies to activate witch time. Requires a little bit of timing but it isn't bad.

pretty cool. i'm still on my magus run. still no SS drop for me. at least i can take 2 hits now. some regular encounters are harder than boss fights currently.

Technically, you could make it eight guys with sledgehammers.

Yeah.

That only works on everything below Magnus. Those hammer soldiers simply don't give a flying fuck about stuff that goes boom and they beeline straight towards you.

There's still ways to cheese that part however. Spinning lariat pulls through in a pinch to create breathing room in between Prime Time activations, among other AoE attacks.

am I crazy or is there more than one level of 360spin attack activation? Most of the time prime's lariet feels shockingly weaksauce but occasionally it'll be, like, transform attack levels of kickass

need a saur mechanics breakdown asap

Yep, maybe I'm too easy to please, but I could spend hours just zooming around in vehicle mode collecting stuff.

Innately has a fairly high chance of applying stun / weapon elemental effects, hitbox for it is deceptively large and once you crank up the Transformers icon in the top-left corner, increased probability of knockback + a follow-up vehicle attack too. It's a beastly skill.

Whoa, I didn't know any of this. Guess I haven't been using it enough to see the beefed up version.

It's fucking solid, as in: There isn't anything wrong with it. It's nothing exceptional and doesn't look noticeably better than the console versions, but it's solid.

Will probably run decent on toasters as well.
I wouldn't call it shoddy, but the lack of some very common screen resolution options is perplexing.
Here's my laptop's specs.

CPU: Intel i7 3635-QM @2.4GHZ
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8870M @ 725 MHz
RAM: 12 GB

I can run it at 720p with no AA, 4xAF, motion blur on, and medium shadow. Better than Metal Gear Rising but worse than Korra. Maybe the upcoming driver will improve it a bit but I'm not expecting miracles. I think I might refund it and pick up the game on PS4.

Thanks for your impressions, guys! I feel confident enough in picking it up now.
