Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Metal Gear Rising already got the obligatory crappy Platinum vehicle section out of the way at the end of the Sundowner fight though ;)

Lol. I remember that sequence. I was like "oh my god what". It was so cool, but at the same time I finished the fight and really didn't want to have to do it all again if I messed up a stupid flying sequence.

Slightly more on topic, I got this game yesterday and played about an hour of it. It's so damn fun. I actually think Bumblebee is my favorite one to play as right now.

Even within the genre, it's catering to ppl who demand longer games that adds to awful boring filler like they added in DMC4. Dumb dice game and repeating the same dungeons twice (and the bosses thrice) :/

I totally understand the issues with DMC4's second half, but repeat bosses are basically a staple of the Devil May Cry franchise though. You fight Vergil 6 times (three times in two different games) and DMC1 has you fight all of its bosses at least twice, DMC3 has you fight them twice via that Mega Man boss rush stage.

Lol. I remember that sequence. I was like "oh my god what". It was so cool, but at the same time I finished the fight and really didn't want to have to do it all again if I messed up a stupid flying sequence.

That part messed up my S-Rank run more than the Monsoon fight did x_x

enjoying my time with this though i really wish the dodge and transform buttons were separated. i had a habbit of pressing/holding dodge in bayo and it's hauning me in this game.

also: any idea why they avoided the musical themes and fonts from the show (like, all of them)?

I'm convinced that silly sequence is the reason Sundowners fight is so quick and easy. If we didn't have a silly robot bird flying ride then he might've been a cooler boss and we'd get to hear more of his music.

I'm guessing some things don't age well...

As for the music, the series wasn't balls to the wall action. It had a very different pacing than this game. So slow music wouldn't fit properly.

I guess that's why they went more TF 1986 movie-ish. It had far more battles and the music that played is similar to the soundtrack the game has now.

I don't know, but I would have preferred a more classic approach to the logo for Devestation rather than what we have now. How cool would it be if you would have walked into a store and see this on the shelves;

tumblr_static_transformer_logo_nl.gif

But a bit more updated I guess.

Finished the game on
Prime
difficulty and there sadly wasn't any reward for beating it.

If anyone is curious, the main difference between
Prime and Magnus
is that
the enemies are about twice as fast in the former.
By that point though your gear and stats should be up to the task. I was a bit disappointed by the relative lack of challenge increase in the later difficulties to be honest.

I'll be tackling the challenge missions next so hopefully those dish out the pain! I was looking at the description for some of them and things look promising on that front :)

Yea, Fall of Cybertron > Devastation.

Man, I hope Devastation sells well overall. These games are so good.

Fall of Cybertron was GOAT. Never played Dark Spark, but from what I heard it wasn't even close. I wish they'd make another sequel in the Cybertron storyline. Hell, even tie in the comics
and give it to High Moon again
.

Fall of Cybertron was decent but they also RUINED the co-op that War for Cybertron absolutely nailed (minus a severe dearth of maps). And the MP also now that I think about it.

Definitely a stronger campaign but, since it wasn't quite as novel, I didn't enjoy it as much.

Still, hearing that this is at least nearly as good as those two games makes me happy - and I'm not even a huge Transformers fan. I just like robots and gameplay variety so mechs turning into vehicles scratches both itches.

Do you pre order from them often? It seems like every preorder I have with them gets fucked up in some way. I don't preorder much but when I do, it goes south.
Been doing it since picking up GCU last year. I don't think I've had any games show up a day late pay release day. MGS5 and maybe some other stuff showed up a day early in fact. Never had any problems even though I know some people have. This skin thing is the first annoyance I've had since now learning the skins have unique dialogue.

Game have shipped my copy... it's in the wild.

Now all I need is a little Energon, and a lot of luck Royal Mail to get it to me by tomorrow!

So if I buy this game now, I guess I miss out on the extra content since I didn't pre-order?

It's very unlikely that they won't make it available later for cheap, probably with extra stuff. That's pretty much the case with virtually all games with preorder bonuses.

I'm not sure why they didn't use it. They went to such lengths to mirror the G1 look, it's weird to just go with some thrown together thing when it doesn't seem like that much effort to just use the original logo.

They have different voices? Seriously, for the life of me I can't remember Red Alert's voice. Like, his only claim to fame was the Auto Berserk episode.

You really need to read MTMTE...

I'm almost certain it's because of licensing issues. Licensing a 30 year old US cartoon soundtrack composed by who knows who for a Japan-developed videogame has to be a nightmare.

Edit: sorry, misread, I was referring to the OST as mentioned further above.

BTW laster weapons are too OP, they deal great damage to ranged enemies and can epenetrate purple shields, make sure you have it equipped on all your characters.

There's no lock-on?

Nope buuuuut if you hold L2 it'll shift the camera to a target. This is good for taking out certain enemies with your guns.

Some people on steam saying you can complete this in three hours. Is that true?

It took me 2.2 hours to beat chapter 1 (of 7) completely.

I mean if you just beeline the story objectives and ignore all the side content, then perhaps. If you are a sensible right thinking individual who actually plays through the game content you payed for, then no way.

Confession Time: I had the privilege of playing TFD prerelease, beating the story on Commander & Magnus difficulties and clearing most of the challenges. Still couldn't wait to get this game on launch day, which speaks volumes on how much I like it. Praying this does well enough to justify a sequel w/playable Arcee and Decepticons.

It's a slow morning at the office so I thought I'd share a few tips/notes with y'all:

Weapon Drops
  • Rank of drops increases depending on difficulty. Mostly D-B drop in normal, with the rare A. C-A on Commander, with the rare S. And so on.
  • R.Drop and W.Drop perks are great for getting fodder for synthesis. Once you've unlocked Challenge modes, you can grind these on higher difficulties to get better drops/perks
  • You can have a max of 200 weapons in your inventory at once, which becomes REALLY unmanageable the more you play the game. If you go over the limit, the game forces you to sell off excess weapons every time you visit the Ark.
  • Make a habit of selling off unneeded weapons every time you visit the Ark. At Commander difficulty, I immediately sell anything below A rank that doesn't have a perk, and most weapons with lvl 1-2 perks.
  • Seriously, don't feel the need to "save" weapons you think you "may" need someday. This game drops weapons like candy from a piñata.

Weapon Synthesis
  • Max weapon level is determined by its rank. IIRC S rank = lvl25, A = lvl20, etc.
  • Weapons highlighted in red have been synthesized at least once.
  • There are character icons in the lower-right corner that show you who can equip that weapon. The icon will be lit up if it is currently equipped.
  • Weapon XP gains are mainly determined by the rank/level of the weapon you're sacrificing, but the cost is always the same and it gets expensive for A/S rank weapons. Basically, don't merge a D rank weapon into an S rank weapon unless it's for the perk.

Weapon Perks
  • Elemental Effects proc more often if you apply an accompanying perk (i.e. Burn+, Shock+, Freeze+)
  • +Energon is clutch for melee weapons that use Energon. Their damage output drops dramatically if you run out of juice.
  • Weapon buff perks do stack. Example: you can put two Atk+, regardless of perk level, on a single weapon to get the benefits of both. I wasn't able to verify if bot buff perks (UltRec+, AltSpd+) stack though.
  • The only way to view a detailed description of a perk's benefits is to synth a weapon that already has all of its slots filled. You'll be taken to a screen that lets you choose which perks to apply, and here you can see the exact effects of each perk.

Other Weapon Notes
  • Some weapons have hidden abilities. For example, with Devastator's Drills equipped, holding Heavy Attack allows you to fire a drill projectile or
Megatron's gun automatically deploys a shield when ADS - Sorry, Wheeljack!
  • Don't discount low-attack status weapons, like the Loudspeakers (dropped by Soundwave, I think) that stuns your foes. Their effects proc 95% of the time and can be really useful for enemy control on higher difficulties.
  • Each melee weapon type (fists, single sword, dual swords, hammer, etc) has its own set of combos. Check the Moves List!
  • Hold L2/LT immediately after a successful dodge to do a John Woo-style air dodge where you can blast ass with your primary gun in Prime Time.
  • In Story Mode, it helps to keep a Sniper Rifle equipped in one of your free slots to hit Decepticon Flags and Spy Ops. Plus one-shot those pesky sniper Seekers with a blast to the dome.

T.E.C.H.
  • Increasing RNK increases the number of T.E.C.H. slots on your bot. I'm not sure what the thresholds are, but at level 62 I had four slots unlocked. (BTW: Level cap increases with each difficulty you unlock)
  • Unlocking Magnus difficulty unlocks a new tier of T.E.C.H. This tier costs 10k credits per attempt, with increased benefits to match. I got a Defense Up 80% chip on my first roll.
  • Character specific perks can be rolled. Back Attack + = Bumblebee, Leap = Sideswipe, Grapple = Grimlock.
  • After a few rolls, immediately go back to the Shop and sell any chips you know you'll never use. This menu can get even more unmanageable than the weapon inventory, as there is no way to sort.

A few minor things may have changed from when I played compared to final release, but I only got through Chapter 2 last night and didn't notice anything yet.

Oh damn, boss is here. Guess I better get to work!

Are you confusing him with First Aid?
Cuz Red Alert ditched the crew once they all returned to Cybertron and First Aid is part of the Protectobots now

Sure, but until then it had some interesting character development, at least compared to G1. It was the first time I saw a Transformer
attempt (and very nearly succeeed at) suicide (though, yeah, this being Roberts, it wouldn't be the last). It also made for a great scene when debating whether to resuscitate him, plus it tied in so well with TF hardiness being the reason for relinquishment clinics...
.
Obviously, it's nothing like First Aid (a character I genuinely love) but in MTMTE even third-line characters are fascinating. After all this is the comic that made a deep, moving, ridiculously likable character out of one of Blaster's cassettes. :D

Mostly good, but I've had some tearing. I think it's just my set-up though, haven't seen it in any vids.

I had the same issue, but V-Sync works well and hasn't noticeably impacted my game.

Be careful to note if it's screen tearing or if it's the visual effect of the game because honestly sometimes I wasn't sure.

runs perfectly well. It doesn't have crazy PC only options, but it would generally be considered the best performance-wise all things considered

Mostly good, but I've had some tearing. I think it's just my set-up though, haven't seen it in any vids.

Just like the consoles...solid. There's nothing PC-centric with this game. Every version of this game is solid.
Alright. I don't fuss too much over PC-only options admittedly, so if it maintains a solid framerate then that's good enough for me.

OOOMMMMFFFGGGGG my face is melting right now

I NEED THIS GAME NOW

Steam ver. has cards it seems, you can do one of two things with them:
Sell them for some Steam credit, or get the reamining cards and make a 'badge' the badge comes with a discount code for a random game along with a wallpaper for your account.

I didn't see this posted, but Jim Sterling did a Squirty Play on it - Shockwavingly Good. He seems to enjoy it. Hopefully it'll convince people to buy it who maybe wouldn't have before.

Thanks to those who explained the dodge-cancelling thing or whatever it's called and to Breakdown Robot for this.
It's a slow morning at the office so I thought I'd share a few tips/notes with y'all:

I've played Rising and Bayonetta but I haven't played them for very long; this was the first Platinum game I've beaten. I'm ready to jump back in on a harder difficulty/tackle challenges.

Just played the game up to the first Megatron fight. The game is tiiiiight.

Love how well the car transformation and shooting is weaved into the combat.

Beat Chapter 3. The biggest negative for the game so far is something which I think everyone noticed long ago from the very first trailers and gameplay footage - the environment is severely lacking in terms of interesting art design and there's no variety whatsoever. There is the city and there is the underground Cybertronian ship/tunnel stuff. That's about it. Everything is reused a ton and it definitely gets really boring to look at after a while.

But whatever budget and resources they saved on the environments, they seem to have made up for in the characters. The animations are top notch, the models are solid, and it's so much fun to fight named Decepticons who not only move and attack in unique ways, but feel so true to their characters. There's a lot of detail and care put into the movesets of the characters, not just for an action game, but as fanservice to Transformers fans.

As far as the non-standard gameplay parts of the game goes, it's a bit of hit and miss so far. I really liked the Galaga style Insecticon turret mission, especially how it has specific waves and bombs and stuff. Really cool. I'm super happy they had an expanded sequence available as a Challenge Mission too. The vehicle chasing stuff is a mixed bag. The first one with Megatron on Longhaul was pretty great and felt tightly designed. The subsequent ones with the Sentry Bot and later with Thundercracker feel more poorly planned and wasn't super fun to play. It was fun to beat Thundercracker up though! The top down 2.5D thing is just baffling. It changed almost nothing about the gameplay except the camera angle. It would have been pretty cool if they made it a full Ikari Warriors style thing instead with unlimited ammo for range attack, but as it is, I'm not sure what the point was lol. The sidescrolling 2.5D battle with Blitzwing was pretty rad though. The controls were kinda loose and it's clear the engine wasn't super suited for it, but I think it's one of Platinum's better rail-vehicle action sequences, lol.

The actual battle with Blitzwing was super solid. Great use of his Triple Changer nature to put a twist on things. I dream of a battle like that with Sixshot. One day.... hopefully...

This is extremely helpful. Thank you.

Only got to play through chapter 1 and a couple sections of chapter 2 but I'm having a blast so far. There's definitely a budget aspect to the whole production but the gameplay is strong enough to make up for it(So far anyway). At the moment I definitely see myself playing though this with every character.

I just completed the game on Commander difficulty, and right now one of my biggest complaints is that
Megatron's first form is way tougher than his second form. That space battle was too short lived.

Hmmm what? Kamiya posts smiley face on Twitter.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Aahahah , it's just he usually blocks people who thank him about P* games he didn't direct(try to thank him for Vanquish,Rising or Bayo 2 rotfl) but looks like he made an exception for TF .
