Transformers: New Game Coming From Activision

Why couldn't a developer with a excellent production track records couldn't pick up the licsense, I don't know. If anything, I don't see anything worthwhile coming this which is sad.

Why can't they just take a great game engine and stick the license over it?

Companies like Nintendo could make alot of cash by taking popular kids cartoons and using either Mario or Zelda game engines as their starting point. I don't know if Activision has anything good to possibly do this with in regards to Transformers. I know they should avoid doing a Transformers game that plays like Tony Hawk, that is for sure! LOL

I would like to see a next gen Beast Wars game set between Season 2 & 3. The Beast Wars fighting game wasn't that bad on Psone; it had most of not all the voice cast from the show.

ROX!

That PS2 TF game was almost really good. Shitty missions and dumb sniping sections just ruined it. Game developers need to watch and learn from fuckin' Tom Berenger and Billy Zane - SNIPING = ONE SHOT, ONE KILL!

I want a solid G1 TF game plz. :(

The following vid is from a documentary that Hasbro made for an event that they held in New York, the vid is 4mins long. about 2mins into it they start talking about the new Transformers movie, even has Speilberg in it talking about choosing Michael Bay to direct it etc. It's very early footage, and over a year old now, one of the Transformers is also actually the Citroen car advert. Unfortunately it's a cam so the quality isn't brilliant.

The following link also has a short possible Transformers clip, not sure if it is actually from the movie or if a CG artist created it.

The second video was confirmed fake. It's not from the movie. I have high hopes for the game though. Maybe Steven Spielberg will have some input in it as well since he's been looking at getting into gaming. So far Activision has done a good job with X-Men and Spiderman. Hopefully they'll give Transformer's the same treatment.

The ps2 game was very good, i was amazed how good. I bought it for my little sister, but couldn't stop playing it myself. My personal favorite moment was fighting the aircraft carrier.

With the good weapons, abilities, and wide open areas, it would have made for a great online shooter. Had alot of the feel of HALO, only much better.

One of the most underappreciated games on the PS2.

I wish the US version had that box art :(

Yeah, the PAL one really rocks, especially compared to what the US got :(

Especially when you consider that it's actually in a special box too:

You opened that and it had this normal DVD case inside:

*hugs PAL copy*

What's wrong with you people? This game has a 95% chance of sucking now, how is this good news!!!

Why all the hate? Did I miss something? The article only said Activision is publishing it. As far as I can tell, no developer has been listed yet. I'd be suprised if the game was beyond preproduction at this point.

I wouldn't say it's going to definitely suck, but dammit, the last game was good. I was hoping for another game from the same team, based on the original Transformers. Oh, well.

Cross my fingers, I guess. I hadn't heard squat about this movie. Cross my finger there, too.

It has less to do with it being cool to hate Activision and much more to do with Melbourne House no longer being the dev. If anyone should be the dev for Transformers it's the aformentioned team darnit. With Massive frame-rate issues and enough time this dev team could have ported HALO to the PS2 amrk my words!

I might be insane but the last time I looked Melborne House is an Atari Dev House, they only make games to be published by Atari. Hence if Atari doesn't have the property, no Melborne House making the game, and Melborn House is one hell of a dev.

Transformers

I mean ok granted they also made the horrible Men in Black game but it's not like they had much of a budget or any time with that one.

I mean they made Transformers in a little under 10 months for crying out loud, imagine what they could do with more time.

According to Wikipedia they are currently working on the PS2 Port of Test Drive Unlimited.

Sad to see the Aussies won't get another crack at it. PS2 Transformers really is a good game. I'd like to see something similar done with G1 Transformers and more emphasis on the whole transforming thing. My one complaint with PS2 Transformers is that the transforming is pretty understated, hardly necessary. Great shooter, though.

Well having levels that take place in a "Modern day" with G1 would naturally allow for better use of the vehicles side of the Transfomers (The Cars and planes adn so on).

Yeah, probably. I'd also like to see more playable characters, including some with transformations other than cars (like jets, an agile panther, or maybe a sweet boom box).

And how sweet would it be to have an unlockable gallery that lets you play with the in-game transformations of the cars? Rotate the camera, go forward/backwards through transformation with shoulder buttons...

Oh damn!

Put Blaster in there and when you transform and use your special move it turns into a Bust A Move mini-game. :lol

TF on the PS2 could have used more interesting transformation stuff. Instead of giving us three automobile characters, they should have given us a car, a plane, and something else (just not monkey fuckin' Optimus Prime). Then design the levels so players have to choose which robot to use and such.

I dunno. I just think it's dumb as hell to strap a jetpack on Optimus Prime just to artificially increase the difficulty of a game. NEVERMIND IT NEVER HAPPENED IN THE CARTOONS! :P

Does Activision have the exclusive license, though? They have the rights to Michael Bay's craptastical upcoming CG movie based on the series, but does that give them the whole franchise? I guess if they didn't, though, Activision would try to stomp on Atari if they tried bringing out a Transformers game banking off the movie without the movie rights.

Too bad, Melborne supposedly had a sequel in the works or on the drawing board.

Yeah, I hoped that on the PS2 Transformers that on of the characters had been Jetfire just to have a different type of character to play as. I hope this one will have a more diverse selection of characters.

The PS2 game certainly had room for improvement, but it was still good. Seems to me that was a long shot. Now we're back to ground zero...or less, since this is not only a new developer and a license, but now a movie license, with all the scheduling constraints that brings.

If Activision plays this smart, they take in Melbourne House. Which is quite realistic now that Atari has gone and put them on the market (well, sorta), along with their other dev-houses. It saves the studio, the talent and we might get a good if not better TF game. The foundation has already been set, the ideas for the sequel are already there (more TF to choose from was one idea, and the ability to play as both Autobot and Decepticon was also mentioned) and there's a great and awesome engine that they can use.

We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out, but I'm kind of afraid that it would give the Transformers a bad name. Just when they got out of the gutter when it came to games. Melbourne House ftw!
