Did someone say a modern spiritual succsor to VP1? Where can I sign up?
The info from the magazine posted earlier have me pretty optimistic (I'm almost on the hype train, but not quite).

It's not VP3 though. VP2 already introduced a lot of elements which advanced the series beyond just sideview action, and it emphasized a much of standard story progression which wasn't as influenced by meta-game mechanics. This sounds like a total return to VP1's game design concept - you make meta-game choices regarding which characters to "return" to Earth, and that has an influence on the possible endings, your characters are more ambiguous in morality, also unlike the more traditional take in VP2. It doesn't sound like the battles are SRPG style with 3D movement like in VP2 either, instead it's VP1 with a front and back row.

VP1-II!!!!

I'm totally on board for VP1-II. And damn, it's just raining jrpgs lately.

Haha, this. If Community were to only have one thing to remember it by, I might say it should be this gif.

I'll keep my eye on this, but I wish they'd just make Valkyrie Profile 3. Wonder what's going on with that IP. Is it dead forever?

Square Enix won't even bother to put up the PSP version or PSX NTSC version up on PSN. That should tell you all about their dedication.

I could imagine it's something to do with contracts to voice actors or something.

Gematsu says it's chibi-sized 3d characters.

How can tri-Ace release 2 rps in such a short time? I'm excited but also worried.
Yeah and both are 2015, that's a bit surprising. I assume they're showing them late in the dev cycle.

That's a bit surprising, it's not like SE and Tri Ace don't have a working relationship.
For all we know, it might be SE not being interested in developing the IP anymore?

I don't think it means Standard Definition.

I know it's super-deformed. I'm saying that I really wasn't expecting super-deformed/chibi characters on platforms such as the PS4/Vita, because that style is usually used to compensate for lack of power to render full detailed models.

-Each members are bound to the 4 face buttons (○/×/□/△) and when you press each button corresponding characters attack
This immidiatly reminds me of Valkyrie Profile 1 so count me in!

I really hope the PS Vita version gets localized in the US.

Oh, I actually didn't know that SD meant Super-deformed. That's too bad if it's chibi character design. Thanks for the heads-up, Antiwhippy.

Last gen....

Infinite Undiscovery - Sept 2008
Valkyrie Profile DS - Nov 2008
Star Ocean 4 - Feb 2009
Resonance of Fate - Jan 2010
Star Ocean 4 International - Feb 2010

Those are the JP release dates. Within a space of a year and a half they managed to release 3 console games and 1 portable game.

They also released Frontier Gate and Beyond the Labyrinth about one month apart.

Its your fault that I'm worried. You told me they were dead. :-)

For people who would like to know the (international) sales of Valkyrie Profile in order to an insight into how Square Enix might care about the IP:

According to SE's financial report in 2007: “ValkyrieProfile 2 Silmeria” (420 thousand units in Japan and 160 thousand units in North America, ditto), plus 170k in Europe Totalling 750K at the end of 2007.

And that's 8 years ago.

Those North American sales are greater than the entire North American print-run of the first game.

That's a good thing, right?

I know, but didn't they drop Seraphic Gate with Resonance of Fate? I heard there was something called wonderland or something instead?

Haven't played RoF yet so I have no idea... Reminds me that I still have to play that game. Bought it 4 years ago and haven't started it up yet ;_;

Game sounds really interesting. Like how they're taking cues from VP1. Interesting concepts deserves to be used and explored in new games.

I had more fun with VP1 than with VP2, so colour me interested. Maybe if this game does well enough then SE will be moved to make tri-Ace do VP3.
