The best comedy of all times, also the smartest one, is Groundhog Day.
Anything else comes after that. Lightning in a bottle.

Me too. It's in my top 3 comedy movies ever. I've watched it probably more than any other movie in the last 15 years. I always say that Dodgeball is a Simpsons movie, except it doesn't feature the Simpsons. The comedic timing is relentless and always impeccable.
And this gif never gets old

Give me a Les Grossman movie you cowards

Eh, he was great as a side character, you don't want 90min of him.

Yup, same here. TT had me in stitches with those fake trailers at the start, then it actually made me fall asleep halfway through. Italian dubbing of comedies has gone to shit when they started translating dialogues more literally and caring a but too much about lip-synch.
TT just can't work in Italian, as half of the movie is a white dude in blackface parodying the speech of black American people, which isn't a thing in Italy (same reason why some scenes from Borat 2 just feel flat in Italian).
I mean, just the RDJ scene posted in the OP here makes me laugh in English, but it falls completely flat in Italian.
Borat...2?

Did they made a sequel? I thought he made bruno after borat.

I also love dodgeball but top 3 comedies is the harshest sell...

Nah, there's plenty of Seth Rogen gems. Pineapple Express, This is the End, Superbad, The Night Before, Neighbors, The Interview... all great
literally every movie you named there is terrible. besides maybe superbad which is a time and place movie, try watch it now and it doesn't hold up.

The entire genre of comedy basically collapsed immediately after TT came out. It's simply impossible to make today so I think it stands out. It's brilliant, but maybe not the best ever.

Top Secret is the best comedy ever and it doesn't even have Leslie Nielsen in it

Superbad was the last decent comedy

The genre is basically dead now

It's funny, but best? Its over indulgent and the Simple Jack bit takes up too much screen time and seems slightly dated now. Compared to something like say Blazing Saddles its barely in the conversation.
I was coming in with Blazing Saddles but its already here. Damn straight.

Mongo and the horse alone is all-time great.

Superbad was the last decent comedy

All range from pretty good to excellent.

And this is just films where comedy is the primary genre (and only listing the ones I've seen, there's plenty I've not gotten around to), there was also plenty where comedy was part of the genres list of a film but I know some people will be like, "erh, that doesn't count!"

Exactly. I remember watching it when it came out, and loved it. Rewatched it for the first time back in 2023, and i stopped like half way, it doesn't hold up at all.

I'll check your list, sir!

I only saw Scott Pilgrim and Game Night, and while they were definitely FUN movies, I didn't laugh out loud while watching them. Maybe shared a sensible chuckle.

Well, perhaps adults can only truly LOL while stoned...?

Can we all agree on one thing, though....

That Seth Rogan and the retard stoner comedies of the late 2000s and early 2010s killed comedy movies.
Observe and Report is a top 10 movie of all time for me. Not just comedy.

He's been in some bad movies but that's every comedic actor.

Nah, there's too many great comedy movies to pick just one, but this isn't charting for me compared to the below and others:

Monty Python movies
Chevy Chase movies
Leslie Nielsen movies
Baseketball
Not Another Teen Movie
Office Space
Police Academy

Etc
I also like really stupid movies.

It's great, but comedy is like food. There's a huge variety. Something may be the best soup, but is it better than the best burger? Or are they better than the best sushi?

The movie I laugh the hardest to is Rat Race, but it isn't exactly high-brow humor. In close second comes Ace Ventura 2.

There are so many comedies that are better than Tropic Thunder.
Just on top of my head.
The great dictator.
Hot Shots 1 and 2.
Monty Python's Life of Brian, and The holy grail.
Airplane
Blazing sadles
Dr. Strangelove
The naked Gun
Ghostbusters
Beverlyhills cop

I ain't gonna make a declaration of something being the best but there's gotta be like 4 John Landis movies alone that were funnier than Tropic Thunder. Maybe even like 2 from Adam Sandler.
You wash that mouth out with soap!

Adam Sandler is probably the least funny comedy actor around... along with Amy Schumer

take RDJ out of it, and its pretty weak

tbh the best bits are the behind the scene section of RJD doing skits

I don't think it is the best comedy ever made. BUT, it is certainly was of the best comedies since 2000. Arguably top 3, maybe 1.

It is a shame that Tom Cruise didn't get to star in the sequel as his character.
