TRU system warranty policy?

I bought a PSP at a Toys 'R' Us the day after launch, and bought a warranty with it. The system has one stuck pixel, but I don't particularly mind it. However, I've gotten into a bit of a bind financially, and in looking for ways to recoup some of the money I've spent on games, the $250 game system is looking like the expense that I would most like to reverse. My question is: is there any way Toys 'R' Us would take the system back for a refund under their service plan, rather than a replacement? I would think that logically, for all the $25 warranties they sell, they may be able to take an occasional loss like this.
 
Scam? I paid $425 in one day for an item that was defective (slightly), including the cost of warranty. I don't get where you're seeing a scam..
 
You don't go through TRU for the warranty, we sell them, but have nothing to do with the actual handling of the replacement.
 
don't know how TRU works, but if they DO give you your money back, it will probably be in the form of some kind of gift card/store credit. I know thats what Circuit City does with their warrenties. They send you a giftcard with the amount you paid for the item, so you can then repurchase it (or anything else, i guess). Retail seems to be getting more and more strict about this kind of shit.

Store credit would be OK, because then I would be able to get some games if I wanted without pulling out my ATM card and going deeper into debt.. but it doesn't sound too promising at this point.

Yeah, seriously. I don't know how you also can't see how it can be construed as a scam to try to get your money back. The "defective" nature of your unit is questionable, and all they'd ever be obligated to do is replace your unit. Don't forget that virtually no company that deals in LCD screens really considers one bad pixel worth replacement. You paid for a warranty, not a rental. If money's that tight, stop buying so many games.

As what was said above, the TRU warranty is actually through a company called NEW located in Virginia(they do a bunch of companies warranties). Good luck getting any help through them though. They are a bitch to deal with. First, they'll tell you that the Sony PSP has a year warranty through Sony and for the first year all fixes must be done through Sony as the plan starts after the manufacturer warranty. If you wait after the first year, you'll have to argue and complain multiple times(they'll claim your problem isn't covered by them) and then eventually they'll admit it is covered and send you a sticker to mail the PSP to them with. Note, the sticker is not a prepaid sticker which means you'll have to use out of pocket money to pay to ship the PSP to them. Then about 2 weeks later you'll get your PSP back. Most likely it will be fixed, but it will have been a lot of effort.

It is a pain dealing with them, but in the end with the replacement plan they will give you a check for what you paid and with the service plan they will fix it or after 3 times give you a brand new system(no cash or credit for the service plan). Its just so sneaky how they try getting out of the plan. Some stores have even replaced or given credits to customers because the plan place wouldn't do it, so you may have luck there(we recently gave a lady a brand new DS because the one she bought last Christmas broke and the NEW people told her to bring it to the store as they weren't gonna take her junk back).
