I can't see this (on its own, exluding Trump's bs with Russia) as a bad thing. I loved Obama but I really don't think he did enough for nuclear disarmament. We'll see where this goes, however.

He'll say whatever he wants as long as the end result is sanctions getting lifted.

Somehow I doubt Russia will actually have to do anything.

Did you forget the start treaty or are we going to erase Obama's legacy as if it didn't exist? And this plan just so happens to coincide with lifting Russian sanctions. People are such easy marks.

This stuff is all happening exactly how it was outlined in that dossier, so not sure why anyone's surprised he wants to lift sanctions. The 'trade' sounds like bullshit.

WHY is he SO OBSESSED with lifting sanctions on Russia. What is he up to?

Classic far right tactic - veil your scheme in something positive so that your actions are initially interpreted as positive and benign.

"It's actually about ethics in games journalism" = "it's actually about nuclear disarmament"

Okay, but by nuclear reduction do they mean by "Launching them at someplace?" because I just don't trust Trump or Russia with the word Nuclear.

He also said this:

"We should be ready to trust Putin", says @realDonaldTrump in his first UK interview as president-elect http://thetim.es/2jmjjFB

And that didn't require something like ending sanctions. What a ridiculous basis.

And with the US ending sanctions there would also be an implicit approval of Russia keeping Crimea.

Yep for a reduction in weapons that doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of Russian ambition. We will both still have enough weapons to destroy the world multiple times over. It's amazing how easy people are to fool because we will be fighting each other over nuclear reduction while Russia recovers their economy and becomes even stronger.

I mean, both countries should only need half as many weapons as they have individually to maintain the same level of nuclear deterrent considering that Putin's going to be in control of both stockpiles now, anyway.

Think of it as opening a joint checking account after the wedding.

Trump admires the strength of the Russian government and hopes that he and his associates can become wealthy through economic diplomacy

Yeah it's going to be even worse. Russia has already stated they don't want to do that unless the US backs out of Europe completely.

And even with the 2014 sanctions they resolved to increase their supply back in 2015. They won't go along with this, at least in private.

See the Ukraine for why this is a bad idea, we are all clearly not ready.(as a species)

When Obama was speaking about nuclear disarmament in 08 the republicans did all they could to condemn it and he moved on to a universal healthcare system.

Russia's cyber warfare tactics are so effectively destructive and influential, they've virtually left nukes obsolete anyway.

Putin talked about increasing supply just a few weeks ago.

I vote to nuke them, who's with me?

I really don't know what you expected when you opened this thread. The man flip-flops on everything, it's no wonder people won't take his word for it; plus, as others have said, it's tacit approval for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Also, you're really gonna shitpost your own thread?

So we reduce our nuclear arms and stop the sanctions and Russia will reduce their nuclear arms? How is the a win for the US?

I think this needs to be framed as "How is this a win for Trump? Financially?"

It's just so out in the open - first meeting : Putin. First foreign policy decision : lift sanctions on Russia. How does any of this benefit anyone except himself. Insane.

I sense that this deal, if it were to happen, won't have the same guarantees as the Iran Nuclear deal had, but will definitely be quite thorough in how and which sanctions to lift.

They own him financially.

There may or may not be a golden shower tape but I'm sure he's done nasty shit on his trips to Russia.
