Trump Praises Saddam Hussein, Says He Killed Terrorists "Well"

the religious extremist groups were a threat to his rule and he suppressed them. Was he worse than the extremist groups? Maybe. Organized terror in a localized region vs unorganized guerrila terror around the world is a pretty shitty choice.
He persecuted groups other than extremists too.

Well, is he a wrong? Sadam did keep a lid on the crazies in Iraq.

Bucket of worms.

ISIS' existence can be linked to the removal of Saddam from power, but damn, Saddam was a piece of shit who treated people awfully.

This is a reminder that there is no black and white in anything.

yes, he's wrong. He didn't kill terrorists well, he killed well, period, and some of those people were terrorists. He just labeled everyone he killed an enemy of the state, or a terrorist, or whatever.

We do that in the US occasionally, but have taken out far less innocent men, women, and children.

Can this not be said about every murderous fascist tyrant in history?

What's that Clinton comment about leaving it to the psychologist to figure out what is his fascination with tyrants and dictators?

That video cut off the last part

He was also hung for crimes against his own people. Want to follow in those footsteps too Donald?

A bit difficult for that to happen when there's no significantly larger militaristic nation state where some of its political elites has a grudge and clout to bring wrath upon the USA and kill Trump to as a show of force and action.

Also, the US has killed plenty more through its actions in Afghanistan and Iraq - (indirectly mostly) than Hussein has managed. Ironically most of it caused by deposing a relatively stable dictatorship that kept the reins on a very difficult to manage populace in check.

For whatever else you think about Hussein - it's clear that he understood Iraq much better than Americans could ever hope to do - and that misunderstanding has cost the lives of many by opening the proverbial Pandora's box in that region.

A much better statement would have been that "Saddam being alive was a better alternative to the power vacuum we created for ISIS to flourish." Trump is vindicating Saddam here though for his methodologies, and suggesting that the USA should follow his lead, which is horrible.

Like, just awful.

Edit: Can't really overstate it.

A US presidential nominee just praised saddam hussein

Not exactly praise, But a man who lost 14 family members to saddam and was famously photographed taking a sledgehammer to his statue also said he now longs for the relative peace of his rule, compared with the current situation.

Bush Jr. Left those people to fend for themselves without any government or authority.

Hmmm...Replace "terrorists" in the headline with "Iranians" (same thing amirite?!) and Reagan would have agreed, as would have his Special Envoy to the Middle East Donald Rumsfeld.

Poor Saddam went off script when he invaded Kuwait. If only he had just stuck to war with American approved enemies and committing genocide against his own people, we might still be on good terms!

Trump wants to do the same thing to terrorists (also "terrorists") that Saddam did, so of course he'll praise a dictator who already invented the wheel for him

Yes, let's create the American death squads.

Fucking idiot. My disgust for his shit is honestly beyond words and description at this point.

Two wrongs don't make a right. I mean sure there was stability and order, but he was a tyrant that didn't have a problem killing anyone that opposed him. Also Iraq sponsored terrorism.
I never stated Suddam was good or his actions were right or to be mimicked. Just that, when in power, Islamic extremism was kept in check. Of course his methods were horrid.

He paid suicide bombers families for attacking Israeli citizens and allowed training grounds in Iraq.

Just because he kept the current extremists in check for political expediency doesn't mean he 'fought terrorists well'

We're gonna be so vicious, folks. So strong and so vicious. You get these so-called experts, with their soft torture techniques, their rights reading. Those aren't real experts. I know the best, the meanest torturers in the world. We're not gonna be reading people their rights, folks.

Actually wait, I don't have to exaggerate:

"You have to fight fire with fire," Trump said at a campaign rally. "We have to be so strong. We have to fight so viciously. And violently because we're dealing with violent people viciously."

Trump already supported torture and now he's implying that mass killing without due process is a good way to kill terrorists.

While he may technically be correct that Hussein rapidly dealt with certain terrorists internally, he is kind of among the group of people that even if you can praise one thing about them, you probably shouldn't.

I mean, sure Hitler was a bad guy, a really bad guy, but hey, at least he helped give Germany a really good infrastructure and military for a while, and even helped develop a classic car.

Stalin was a pretty nasty fellow, but he helped defeat the Nazis.

Saddam just sponsored the wrong terrorists in the US's eyes, not the good guy terrorists that the US still funds to this day.

Haha wow. All he had to do today was ride some of the damning news about HRC and get a little positive momentum. Ok she wasn't indicted, but there was plenty he could blast her with. So what does he do, he praises a tyrannical, chemical weapons using mass murderer, dictator who harbored state sponsored terrorism. Amazing. Honestly, we are probably going to get a pro Hitler sound bite by the end of this election.

Iraqi man who took a sledgehammer to Saddam Hussein's statue wants him back

"There was corruption, infighting, killing, looting. Saddam killed people, but it was nothing like this current government," he said. "Saddam is gone, but in his place there are 1000 Saddams."

I just finished watching Generation Kill last night, its crazy how many of the assumed possibilities and what ifs due to the invasion made in that show have actually come to be.

Hmm thought this news cycle was gonna focus on Clinton's poor judgment re her emails.

Guess Trump felt his poll numbers weren't low enough.

I mean...
You were handed the ball and an open lane to the basket.
All you had to do was drive to the hoop and jam on Clinton.
That's all you had to do.

How hard is this for this guy? Really?
What is it with Trump and lauding the qualities of despots?
