He simply doesn't get geopolitical landscape and what's feasible.

As he's pretty much admitted anyway in his Reuters interview.

Yup. And his actions are pretty much guaranteed to help bring down the American Empire. Trump needs to have somebody sit him down and tell him, "The way things are working in the world are fine. They're the reason why we're the top dog right now. If you mess with them, we're going to start losing a lot of influence."

The problem is that Trump comes from the predisposition that his predecessors had no idea what they were doing, and that since the US seemed to be doing all sorts of things for free, they were getting a bum deal. The reality is that these "free" services are the reason why the US has military hegemony over most of the world, and that this is a direct contributor to its position of power.

He has all those generals around him, can't one of them pull him to the side and explain that we protect S. Korea and Japan for our interest?

McMaster just made his boss look bad, but good on him assuring SK that US is still paying for THAAD.

Trump is like the kid in the grocery store who is constantly putting candy and shit in his moms cart and she is constantly putting them back on the shelf.

LOL. Trump is like a criminal organization at this point. Create conflict for specified people and then charge protection money. Great way to win friends and influence people.

So. He says in press that SK should pay. That makes headlines. But simultaneously, the administration knows something like that will never happen. His base loves it, but there are no real downsides for him personally as he never follows through on it.

Masterful.

Well he does make office of President look like utter joke, so there is that.

Damn this headline cycle is predictable.

Headline : Trump threatens *country* with scrapping trade unless they do X

Headline a few hours-days later: Functioning adult explains to trump why he's an idiot; Trump agrees; backtracks on proposal.
One of these days, he is not going to listen to the functioning adult.

God, it must be so hard being in the military right now.

Officer: "We're here to help!"

Trump: "Give us all your money and then die for our glory!"

Officer: "... he meant to say we're here to help."

To think we could charge a country for the defense equipment WE deployed there is insane lol. Glad that our military is still operating under rational individuals, despite having a reckless commander in chief.

If Trump keeps speaking nonsense and his advisors come out with their own statements, I think eventually other countries will ignore or skip Trump and go straight to the administration, and treat the president as a figurehead.

What happens then? Trump decides that he wants to be taken seriously and things go really downhill?
