Trump wants to charge stores to accept food stamps

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/07/trump-wants-to-start-charging-stores-to-accept-food-stamps.html

Donald Trump wants to charge retailers a fee for accepting food stamps as payment from the poor

The food stamp fee would be re-assessed every five years
Budget office predicts $2.4 billion in new revenue from the fee, which is seen hurting independent grocers more than big chains

Separately, the Trump administration is proposing $191 billion in cuts over the next decade to the food stamp program

Just when you think it can't get any worse...

This seems like some of the anti-poor shit, bootstrap, Randian bullshit that Paul Ryan blasts loads over. And Trumps hearing these loads being blown down the hall and he's like, "Paul, there's come everywhere!"

And the Ryan is all, "I just thought of a new way to screw the poor over! We'll tax food stamp use so stores have to charge the poor more! That'll get those xbox playing losers into the coal mines."

And Trump says, "I usually come a lot more when I get those ideas, Paul. My ideas are better, too. The best ideas. "

"Oh yeah," says Ryan as he approaches Trump.

"Yeah, I bet I can fuck the poor over harder and come twice as hard as you'll ever hope to."

They cross their erections as they stand face to face.

...To be continued.

They're literally skimming off the top of food stamps to shore up their tax cuts for the rich.

It's like when that one state passed a law where you could only pull out 20$ of EBTCash per day and it's a 1$ fee to pull it out so they were skimming there too..

It's like this idiot and others don't get that most of your grocery stores and such that you go to literally only exist because of foodstamps.

Don't forget rural communities. If your closest grocery store is 30 minutes away and they stop accepting food stamps you are fucked.

I mistakenly read the title as "change stores" and thought a miracle was happening.

Nope, it's charge. Trump continues to be an evil prick.

I guess I wouldn't be opposed to applying this fee to larger stores that pay a certain percent of their employees a low enough wage that they still qualify for SNAP benefits as a means of encouraging higher wages, but obviously Trump is just going in the slimiest direction possible here.

This is pretty high up there in the "Kill the poors" scale.

How does this not dissuade stores from accepting food stamps? That has to be the entire purpose .

Why do they hate poor people so much?

They'd pit poor people against one another in gladiator arenas in fights to the death if they could get away with it. Winner would get a handful of food stamps and an iPhone.

That's the point. They literally want people to go hungry for being poor. And if stores can't afford the fee they lose SNAP purchases which means more stores closing and jobs lost.

Someone tell Donnie that taxing 1% of the top 1% probably will give you way more money than taxing the poor.

He's hurting his mythical small businesses owning base more actually here. They're the ones getting fined in this proposal. Big chains can eat the costs easy.

More Republican hypocrisy.

I know; it's just that I can imagine the sound of it appealing to the usual suspects; it feels like more darwinian pressure on the most vulnerable people.

So like, it's a Paul Ryan notion.

There's a lot of reasons why so many Americans hate the poor and destitute, from social darwinism to a misplaced sense of resentment at "moochers not pulling their weight". Underneath all of it, I have long suspected, is a deeply set fear Americans are conditioned to experience: in a society that idolizes money and visible displays of success, everyone is terrified of financial failure and of being poor. Everyone has status anxiety.

And if you stigmatize the poor as being practically a human sub-species who can't possibly have any relation to those of better breeding, to the winners born with the drive to conquer wall street, you can sleep more easily at night.

Hating the poor also lets wealthy people avoid thinking about the fundamental inhumanity of a society that must have losers in order to have winners; where someone has to be poor and live a miserable life until they die, in order for another class to be rich and experience a pleasant existence.

This is absolutely fucking evil. Like, every time I think Trump or the GOP can't possibly look any more like cartoon villains, they surpass themselves. It's incredible.

No no you don't get it:

An OMB official described the fee as "modest" and "reasonable," emphasizing that some large retailers redeem a billion dollars or more in food stamp benefits each year.

"Although a small number of stores may choose to leave the program rather than pay the fee, we do not expect that this will affect access to authorized stores," the official said.

Because of reasons.

The grocery industry is on boa...

The proposal surprised the grocery industry, which is already fighting to block the controversial border adjustment tax on Capitol Hill. That measure would lower the cost of exports but raise the price of imports and has been widely opposed by chain retailers. Trump's food stamp fee, however, would fall squarely on supermarkets.

oh
Grocers oppose the "flawed policy of imposing fees on food retailers in order to reduce the cost of the federal government's nutrition assistance benefits to the most needy in our society," said Leslie G. Sarasin, president of the Food Marketing Institute, which represents the industry.

I had no words the first seconds after reading this but there is only on conclusion:

This is class warfare, he is declaring war on the poor and small retailers.

Because they don't actually care about other living beings, or anything really, anything but money and power. Rich people and corporations give them tons of money, so their law making reflects that. Pretty straight forward really.

Poor white people sure are fucking stupid it seems, as they are the primary base that votes these scumbags into office.

The GOP blames the poor for being poor. Period. Not the fact that one illness can bankrupt you. Not the fact that student loans can cripple you for decades. Not the fact that 1/4 of the population works as truckers or security guards. Not the fact that trickle down has never and will never work.

The poor are poor because they choose to be. They way they see it, they are doing the poor a favour by making it harder to be poor.

The GOP thinks America needs more self made men like Trump, the Kochs or the Waltons.

I thought conservatives didn't like regulations that hurt small businesses.
