You have it backwards.

Their justification for fucking over the poor is the monetary "revenue".

This is a reversal of social benefits. The fucking poor people over is not the side effect. It's the purpose. The monetary upstream, is the side effect.

You are being hoodwinked.

Too old to be hoodwinked and been in industries related to merchant service processing far too long to turn a blind eye to its profitability.

Still, let's say for shits and giggles that it is backwards. Dismantling the premise of this "fee" on its financial merits still nets the same result of this never seeing the light of day.

"He's trying to fuck the poor" vs "His plan doesn't make fiscal sense and will only serve to further fuck the poor because the knock on effects, etc etc etc"

Which one is going to garner more attention?

This seems like some of the anti-poor shit, bootstrap, Randian bullshit that Paul Ryan blasts loads over. And Trumps hearing these loads being blown down the hall and he's like, "Paul, there's come everywhere!"

And the Ryan is all, "I just thought of a new way to screw the poor over! We'll tax food stamp use so stores have to charge the poor more! That'll get those xbox playing losers into the coal mines."

And Trump says, "I usually come a lot more when I get those ideas, Paul. My ideas are better, too. The best ideas. "

"Oh yeah," says Ryan as he approaches Trump.

"Yeah, I bet I can fuck the poor over harder and come twice as hard as you'll ever hope to."

They cross their erections as they stand face to face.

...To be continued.

Great. How am I supposed to get rid of this erection?

Edit: Oh wait...*Thinks about poor people starving because stores stop accepting food stamps* gaaaaaaah oooooooh mmmmmmm...okay. Whew.

As a non American I find the whole idea behind food stamps repulsive. You are shaming the poor while providing assistance. Studies from several countries show that if you just have them the cash you build up their self esteem and provide them with more control over their own lives. Couple that with social workers who help with budgeting and you help set the poor up for more success and even future employment if capable.

But since this is all they have in the US this is even worse than the food stamp program as you are punishing grocers for assisting. This is so awful and it's amazing how worse the United States has become in such short period.

Our current government hates minorities, women, the LGBT community and the poor.

We sound like some backwards fucking 3rd world country. What a joke we have become.

Exactly my thoughts while reading the OP.

Creating a tax on poverty. I guess that's the only kind of tax these people are comfortable with.

So:
- tax cuts for the rich
- millions more uninsured people
- new taxes for the poor

The GOP is actively waging class warfare.

I guess if you're a poor Trump supporter, now you have to say "HELL YEAH! I've always wanted to be charged more and persecuted for my financial status! Anyone that says we need to helped or have our demographic taken into consideration is just a bleeding heart cuck libtard!"

It's kind of amazing how much they'll twist their minds around just to keep loving Trump.

What a truly sickening idea.

It's very GOP, though. Seriously, someone needs to create a lizard people test kit already. I'm quite convinced the US has been subverted by inhuman monsters hellbent on the enslavement and/or eradication of humanity.

Yes fuck the poor so the rich can keep getting tax breaks that they can use to go on their 30th vacation of the year. Fucking disgusting.

Awesome, I rely on food stamps and medicaid to live (both things he wants to destroy).

You obviously have luxury items like the interwebs! Why don't you do something constructive and put on some boot straps so you can pull yourself up with them?!? #MAGA

Can someone fix the title? I thought Trump was trying to force stores into accepting food stamps for a sec there :/

He's pretty much right though. People were too lazy to vote or thought it didn't matter.

Yup. It's more of a reflection and a hope that people realize their mistake the next go around and stop things like this from happening again.

It has nothing to do with "holier than though". I really don't feel superior for voting Clinton I just did what I could so things like this wouldn't happen when the Republicans have been drooling over these kinds of policies for years. As of right now in this political climate it really is the party of the rich vs the party of the poor.

I wonder if we'll see a tangible spike in the suicide rate under Trump with some of the policy changes he's putting forth for poor people.

I read this and I think of the General character in Cloony's Peacemaker movie where he's going on about how much he hates these people walking past his truck cause they are poor.

How is this helpful for anyone on food stamps? I can see the wave of stores rejecting that as a currency and poor people having to travel further distances out their way to buy food adding to their burden.

Ah yes, 'tis the Christian thing to do after all. Who could forget the part of the New Testament where Jesus said it is your duty to give to the poor and disabled, but be sure to keep at least 20% for yourself first?

They say they do. They say they support the troops while cutting funding on programs to help them. They say "it is not a gun issue, it's a mental health issue" and then cut funding to mental health programs. And on and on, and they just keep getting elected.

If you read history, it's obvious the entire conservative movement was started as a ploy by rich nobles to trick the plebs into not guillotining their heads off while still siphoning as much as they could from them.

"FUCK THE POOR.

They are a vile smudge on what should be a fantastic country."

His next step should just be mass genocide of the lower class. Because, you know, they are people too and they don't deserve fair treatment in this country.

Wow, i guess USA is a really shitty place to live if you are poor. What is the point of food stamps if you cant get food ?

That's the endgame. They can't get rid of food stamps directly but if they can say "The food stamp program doesn't work, the people don't even use them!" then it becomes open for debate.

Short answer: it's not and while the stores likely won't (or at least that's the premise of the idea), the net impact would extend beyond SNAP.

Long answer: The merchants would likely factor this new fee into their price of goods. VISA/MC/Amex/Discover then in turn shortly after push for an increase in interchange rates, which impacts everyone regardless of socioeconomic status (and yes, I know how price of goods impacts different classes more intensely than others).

Once again, it's why the opposition should be about more than what's just at face value, as important as the face value is. Nobody in their right mind would underestimate the disparate impact on the underserved, but this would also be just a first domino.

This is pretty typical of not just Trump, but of the GOP in general. They always, always try and come up with "clever" ways of indirectly hurting the poor. This isn't geared towards the grocery stores, it's to make it harder for the poor to buy food. The GOP's endgame here is to hope that less stores will accept food stamps.
