Looking for a nice 27" gaming TV for under 500 dollars preferrably in the 400 dollar range. Something with component/S-Video. I saw this nice Panasonic one but I'm not sure which brands are reliable. What i have now is a 20" Sony Wega with component but i need something a little bigger.

Basically it's between a Panasonic 27" Tau and a Sony Trinitron 27" Wega. both seem to have the same stuff but the Wega is 40 bucks more. I'm not sure on quality of picture between the two in comparison.

That Advent set looks pretty cool, considering the price.

I don't suppose it will really have superior quality, but at this point it seems absolutely stupid to buy a GAMING tv that will not let you play games in progressive scan. It's like buying a home theater that only supports Dolby 2.0. Nearly every Xbox and Cube game can run in 480p, and some Xbox games will even let you bump it up to 780p resolution.

I would get one of those cheap HDTVs....or an EDTV set at the very least. If the off-brand name scares you away (even though impressions on Advent sets have generally been good), then Samsung makes a 27" EDTV that will give you progressive scan (but no HD content) for ~$400-450

Magnavox has a 27" set that will do HD

They are basically the same. Right now i have a 36" Panasonic flatscreen (i think it might be a Tau. not at home to check right now) and compared to my brother's WEGA there's barely any difference. Choose the one that has more/better inputs or has a better remote (YES, REMOTE).

I'd stay away from Advent and Magnavox. I've seen Advents and they're nothing but budget TVs. Magnavox is ahead of any budget brands but below Sony, Panasonic and even RCA.

I have a 27 inch Sony Wega and a 27 inch Panasonic Tau and I can tell you they're pretty much the same. Only difference was that the Sony was more expensive. It's not worth buying Sony products if your looking for a low budget tv. Sonys low end products are more expensive then the competition and do not have any advantages over the competition. Although, Sony does make some great high end tvs.
