It's that time of year again...The Twilight Zone returns from Dec 31 through Jan 2!

Check the schedule here: http://www.syfy.com/schedule/1483160400

Anyways, this marathon has a gimmick this year:

On January 1, YOU control Syfy...for a few hours. We're pitting the The Twilight Zone against... The Twilight Zone, 'cause who doesn't love a good nerd fight? And we want you to let us know which ones reign supreme.

Here's how it's going to work. As you may or may not know, Syfy airs a Twilight Zone marathon ever New Year's. This year it's happening from Dec 31st at 8:00 am through January 2nd at 4:00 am. To shake things up a bit, we're letting the viewers decide which episodes will air from 8-11pm on January 1st.

Starting on January 1st, we'll reveal hashtags that will let you vote for certain episodes. There will be a choice between two episodes for each half-hour slot from 8-11pm on January 1st, and for each half-hour, whichever hashtag gets the most love will be the episode we show. The line up of choices is below. Come back on January 1 to learn the hashtags to vote by!

8pm - Small town dramz.

IT'S A GOOD LIFE: A 6-year-old controls his town with his ability to create or destroy anything with his mind.

Come back on January 1 to learn the hashtags to vote by!

Ahh one of my great traditions. Ill be catching it later on tonight since i'm working today. I know Netflix has it as well so I might binge from there instead.

The Four of Us Are Dying on now. It always amazed me that hardcore sci-fi like this used to fly back in the 60s. I guess this show's masterful writing really was strong enough to pull in the viewers.

Those choices are not really competitive at all. Put some of most classic episodes against some of the lesser known ones, and you can guess what's going to win:

-It's a Good Life
-To Serve Man
-Nightmare at 20000 Feet
-Time Enough at Last
-The Invaders
-The Masks

I'd be shocked if it turned out any other way.

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge is next and The Encounter is on at 6:30. This will be the first time I've seen The Encounter. Last New Year's was the first time it had aired in 50 years, but it was on at about 6:00am. It was too early for me.

Water is not wet!
I wish they would play the '80s reboot episodes as well, enjoyed them more tbh (must have been the color, I don't know)
The 80s series gets way too much shit. There are some very serious contenders for ultra-classic TZ status (The Childrens Zoo, A Small Talent for War, Button, Button, Wordplay, Shatterday). Not only that but the 80s series has the strongest line-up of "emotional" TZ stories (think in the vein of Walking Distance).. gems such as A Message from Charity, The Toys of Caliban, To See the Invisible Man, A Saucer of Loneliness, Her Pilgrim Soul, and Paladin of the Lost Hour.

I'm still mad that Netflix in my country removed it. The entire show was there for me to watch, then they removed it fucking hell. Is there a collection released or something that I can buy?

We got rid of cable this past year so I'm using Netflix for my marathon this year. I just showed my 7 year old son The Invaders for the first time and I think I just blew his mind.

The Monsters Are Due On Mapple Street, Eye of the Beholder and Walking Distance are stone cold classics though, they can pull their own against their respective competitors. Twenty Two has no chance against The Masks, sure, ditto for Living Doll against Nightmare at 20000 Feet. The Invaders and Five Characters I could see coming out either way really.

The 80's series had its share of home-runs but it also had a very uneven tone, like it was fighting to find an identity and settle for it. Some episodes succeeded at carrying on the 'Zone feeling, whereas others seemed straight out of Outer Limits or even Goosebumps.

"The Encounter" was a weird one to watch after the events of this election year.

"Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?" is a classic but I've seen it way too many times.

Edit: The 10pm slot choice is brutal. Love both those episodes.

This right here is my reason for life. Wake up early to watch it before my family/gf wake up and make me turn it off lol.

Freaking love the masks, the one with the pool/other world, the train back to 1892 or w/e. My favorites.

I watch this on Netflix a lot. Each episode I try to see if they manage to not portray women as hysterical, timid or overly emotional. And the men always have a plan and are in control of their emotions. It's near impossible in media during this era. It even persists into the 60s with Star Trek, which was progressive. Uhura or Nurse Chapel would be delicate flowers and the men strong protectors.

Always love to put this on in the background. I definitely pay attention to some of the standouts of course.

Did "Five Characters in Search of an Exit" already happen?

Seems it's in a vote against "The Invaders" tomorrow at the 10pm EST slot, so one of those two will air then.

This marathon makes me sad that Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is closing in a few days. I got my final ride in and bought a souvenir but it's still upsetting.

I should go rewatch the movie at some point.

Sweet. Hope it wins.

Who would win in a pool game? Fats or Uncle Phil with Lucille?

Don't get me wrong, those episodes are all more than worthy. Maple St. in particular hits close to home these days. But a marathon without It's A Good Life and Time Enough just seems wrong. Too many iconic episodes versus classics.

I agree on Five Characters vs. The Invaders, two equally classic twists. That one could go either way.

Oh, great point there. I didn't realize the episodes that didn't win the voting wouldn't be shown at all, damn. That's a choice for Sophie.

Doing a quick scan of the remaining listings, Time Enough at Last is the only one with a showing later in the marathon. I may have missed something earlier, though.

I was watching Rifftrax's relase of Kingdom of the Spiders a few weeks ago and it was hard to watch. Apparently the people making it ran out of money for music, so they bought a lot of stock music. There was a lot of stock music from The Twilight Zone in it. It was pretty distracting. Every time the music played, I could picture the episode it came from.

Love this marathon every year. I usually have it on in the background all day on the 1st but I'll be checking out tonight after the bowl game.

Jesus when I read the thread title I missed the "Zone" in title and thought it was the Twilight movies with that weird sparkly vampire. Thank god i was wrong. I was almost pissed off for a second.
