They looked nice together, but the characters had nothing in common. That subplot had no future and Cooper's character and reputation suffered enough during the Flannel Era without him banging a ditzy high schooler.

I think "ditzy" is severely underestimating Audrey.

Some quick impressions from one of the attendees last night, google translated from Dutch:

What we can say firmly [is] that Twin Peaks [has the] same look and 'feel' as the original. Horror and humor go hand in hand, this season. In the cinema laughed at the right time - but especially by the present actors and technical staff, and a little too hard.

Probably translation issue but what do people make of "little too hard", as in laughing at something unintentionally funny or just lots of laughter in general for those parts? Glad to hear its got the humor intact.

edit: Derp I see what they meant, those working on the project played it up during the funny parts. Maybe I should read the whole thing :p

I'm guessing it's a "yes," but does Showtime-via-Hulu generally make episodes available as soon as they start airing on broadcast Showtime?

He didn't need to bang her, that's the point. The chemistry alone could sustain their interactions. I'm pretty sure everyone involved creatively would agree it was a mistake to drop it.

Have you been out to visit the filming locations? They are only like a 30 minute drive from you.

Yeah a bunch of times over the years. I've lived in the pacific NW for the last 23 years. I've been to Snoqualmie Falls and the Salish Lodge that sits above it. The Double R diner shooting location which is a touristy diner that's rather mediocre but does make it's own cherry pie with acceptable coffee. I also took a tour of the Palmer house when it was up for sale a few years ago.

I went to the falls last year with the inlaws after going on a hike in the cascade mountains.

I really need to get back out there this summer for more hikes, probably my favorite area in Washington. Did Rattlesnake Ledge the other summer, what a view!

I believe her reasoning was the age gap of the characters was too big and it was kinda pervy (and it kinda is). Keep in mind she was dating Kyle at the time, so that prob also factored into it.

Them dropping audrey and cooper was the worst.

I thought Kyle McLaughlin was the one who vetoed Coop/Audrey because he didn't believe it was something Cooper would allow? This is what I've always known to be the reason the plot was ended.

I'm very jealous - I live on the other side of the world but I've been meaning to make a pilgrimage to the pacific nw for a while, not just for peaks but also all of the music I loved so much during my teens (and beyond).

It's not you. That part of the review is written a bit odd. Doesn't really make sense in Dutch either.

It's always been rumoured that Kyle vetoed it while under pressure from his then girlfriend Lara Flynn Boyle.

I don't understand why they couldn't just get Moira Kelly back if there's issues with Lara.

It was Lara that put the squeeze on him (from the unofficial TP companion):

You mean live? No I don't think so, you have to wait until after it airs. But you can download Showtime Anytime and it has a live feed.

When Audrey was at her best, she seemed like she was only barely in touch with reality. They hastily tried to turn her into a reasonable, ambitious woman and that's when the character fell apart.

He didn't need to bang her, that's the point. The chemistry alone could sustain their interactions. I'm pretty sure everyone involved creatively would agree it was a mistake to drop it.
Oh, that's different. I agree, they shouldn't have distanced the characters like that, but the original plan to develop it into an actual romance subplot was a mistake,

So, Peaks GAF - I have a question for you.

Do you think that if you were falling in space, that you would slow down after a while or go faster and faster?

Faster and faster.

And for a long time you wouldn't feel anything. And then you'd burst into fire. Forever.

And the angel's wouldn't help you. Because they've all gone away.

What questions? It's basically heaven, hell, and purgatory. If anything I expect Lynch to add more mystery to it.

I guess that's what I meant. There can still be details about it revealed. Like how Silent Hill doesn't have an explanation but the games keep adding lore and backstory.

Richard Chamberlain confusing Fire Walk With Me for a random episode when he caught it on Showtime is the cutest thing.

"(...) and I'm watching the show, this episode last night and there were tits and all kinds of ... love stuff going on and I thought 'this was on TV 25 years ago?' I could hardly believe it."

Found it:

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Nevins revealed that the new Twin Peaks will be returning us to the Red Room and explaining more of Twin Peaks' enigmatic world. ” Twin Peaks is a cosmology," Nevins said. ”What I think is satisfying about the new version is that it's a deeper exploration of that stuff. What is the Red Room? How does the Red Room work? Where is Agent Cooper? Can he make it back?"

I'm assuming by Red Room he means interchangeable with the Lodges. It can't all be the waiting area!

You speak/read Dutch? Cause you brought up a article from a Dutch News Paper :p

I know, I mentioned that in my post lol. Was Google translated.

That James quote in the OP got me. What a mess, l o l

A few friends & I went to the diner and the spot where the sign is in the intro earlier this week, since I wanted to before things get crazy over there after tomorrow. I'll post a few pics when I get home today, it was nice and misty :)

I do speak dutch though.

... for what it's worth. :p

What was your takeaway from it? Especially the line about cast and crew laughing too much.

Be sure to come for mountain hikes. They're the best in the united states. The Olympic mountains are out of the way enough so you can take hikes with out there being a ton of tourists. It's only a ferry ride away from the seattle area and if you take your car it's only 40 dollars round trip. The San Juan Islands are also exquisite but it's a 100 dollar ferry ride both ways. Once you get there however you can take interisland ferries for free. The lakes and mountains there are pristine. The lake here are sno and glacier fed so their cold as the lakes of hell even in the heat of summer.

Guys I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, two cups of good, hot black coffee or an episode of Season 3.

That's not how I understood it. According to Hawk you had to go through the Black Lodge to get to the White Lodge. The Red Room seems to be part of the Black Lodge. Shadow selfs can escape the Black Lodge.

Well overall it's a lot of focus on Lynch, positive focus, because they can't say anything about what they watched, but my translation of that part would be this:

"What we can say is that Twin Peaks looks and 'feels' like the original. Horror and humor go hand in glove in this season too. People laughed at the right moments in the cinema - but mostly the actors and technical staff, and perhaps just a bit too hard."

So yeah, I guess the writer just got annoyed by it at some point? It's a bit strange. But his point is that the the humor's there, so yeah.

Shooting script of that episode made the black lodge its own separate thing, it looked like a shadow version of the great northern or something if I recall things correctly. Lynch just overhauled that as the director and turned it into the earlier seen red room. I don't think he sees any of them as separate things to be honest, but I guess the white lodge is kept ambiguous.

Do consider that the 'good' spirits like the giant appear in the same place too though.

OH! one last story before I have to do housework and stop slacking.

My wife is a vet and she's still friends with a handful of her classmates from vet school. About a year ago a friend of hers who was doing some relief vet work in Snohomish, WA saw a client with a sick dog. The Woman kept asking my wife's friend if she knew who she was. She didn't. The woman asked her if she'd heard of twin peaks. She hadn't. My wife's friend kept reaching for the dog so she could examine it but the woman wouldn't let her and kept asking her if she looked familiar. The woman finally revealed that she was Sheryl Lee which still meant nothing to my wife's friend. She told her that they were filming the new season of Twin Peaks.

Even when she was recounting this story to my wife and I it was with annoyance that some narcissist actor came into her clinic and wouldn't let her treat her dog before laboriously explaining who she was.

Personally I think it was good they dropped it.

However, I would've liked, had season 3 happened then, they would've come back to it.
Of course they would've had to drop John Justice Wheeler
taking her virginity
to give it a full effect, but it would've been GREAT if
bad Cooper would've tried to seduce Audrey.

Any real romance between them would've been, to me, much worse than revealing the killer too quickly. There would've been nothing exciting to do with them. Now we at least got an amazing killer reveal scene, but Cooper starting a romantic/sexual relationship with Audrey would've, in my opinion, brought nothing really interesting to the show.
