Twitch: Changes To Audio In VODS

The Google-take over is real.

It's only the beginning, they'll start banning "Unauthorized Audio" during live streaming soon.

you already weren't supposed to stream copyrighted music if you didn't have the clearances to do it. everyone knows this.

30 minute blocks is dumb though. they could have just muted the offending portions of the VOD and leave the rest.

^ but lol fallout 3 doesn't even use any licensed music right? i can see GTA streams being muted but wow those false flags

There goes all of the archive of a LAN event I manage. God dammit. No heads up so we could move it....

Time to look into alternatives.

Zelda seems to be one, according to the speedrun community.

This is gonna be fun.

no guys you're just overreacting you already weren't supposed to play music in the abstract sense of a rarely enforced rule so this doesn't change anything

Aren't the songs from the 1930 or whatever they play on the radio licensed?

Also, let's be real for a second. Does anyone sincerely believe that people streaming music on Twitch is in any way, shape or form having a negative impact on music sales? Why would anyone pirate music from Twitch when not only is there YouTube, but also any number of services like Spotify.

It's a reactionary, shotgun approach to an imaginary problem.

Just to follow up on Dansgaming Fallout 3 muted, (watching his stream now)

The only reason it wasnt totally muted is because he doesnt have the ingame radio playing all the time.

The comment section of that twitch post is great, bet they regret leaving comments on. It's just hundreds of "ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ RIOT ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ" posts

I take my initial post back, this system's scorched earth approach sucks. Not sure about the long term damage because I don't know how many people rely heavily on VODs with no other method of recording, but this initial implementation is really bad.

Remember when people said Google wouldn't try to do this exact thing?

God damn, I was one of them. What exactly are you trying to do here? How does this benefit you, the viewers, or the service in any way?

You'd be a fool to not think this was inevitable. I just hope there aren't too many abuses and false flags, and that devs/pubs will do what they can to whitelist tracks in their games.

Yeah good luck with that.

Any and all audio that is copyrighted in games will flag the content id system. Pretty much most VOD's will be muted, unless you specifically mute all music in games.

Dan was also playing with a mod that added more songs that weren't in the original release.
