Twitch Plays Pokemon Thread 3: Return of Red... Aussies win again!

Looking around the web and reddit, and man did lore take a jump in quality today

This is my favorite

The thing is, we have finally stuck he perfect chord between abandoning Red and being Red in being a CONTINUATION of Red

Hahaha

The Pidgeotto description slays me

So I haven't been keeping up with this playthrough, but goddamn did the narrative get meta. It's some mix of military and rebellion.

lol that's great. Gotta love the random flying at the end, it never really made any sense but in this context it works quite well.

Topic is moving extremely slow it seems.

How far are they from the end of crystal?

Right now we're doing the Radio Tower/Underground Team Rocket stuff. Once we finish clearing this, we can go through the Ice Cave to Blackthorn City, where we'll fight Clair/go through the Dragon's Den for the 8th badge. After that, we can surf on over to Kanto and fight the Elite 4, then traverse the region and get the 8 Kanto badges, then finally we can make our way to Mt. Silver and face Red, our ultimate enemy.

So almost halfway done, I'd say.

So is it an agreeable opinion that the Streamer should have waited longer to start up "Season 2", and that TPP has taken a huge hit in popularity?

Yeah, the stream just got burnt out. And I dont blame people, it was surprising that it stayed so popular for so long to begin with. I think if he waited at least a week or so for people to take a breather it would have lasted for a bit longer. Oh well, nothing lasts forever.

Ah thanks for the info.

So sad to see less than 18k people watching right now. Maybe they'll at least make some progress.

18,000 viewers is not too shabby though, it still makes Pokemon Crystal the fifth most popular game on twitch right now.
Also the third most popular individual stream, hell we were the most popular yesterday for quite a few hours. There's no shame in our current placement and while we'll probably never reach the numbers of the past ( until we make it to Red) this should be pretty pleasing to twitch and should be worth going into gen 3 for if we remain fairly stable in the teens for the rest of the run.

Is Gen 3 considered to be more difficult than Gen 2? I honestly don't remember. I think the possibility for lore will be greater in Gen 3 though, due to the new mechanics and varied environments.

Everything is harder than Gen 2. The real challenge, though, is going to come from some of the new mechanics - for example, bunny-hopping with the Acro Bike.

We'll still need to navigate a few ledges right?

The ledge in front of the Viridian Gym is completely identical to it's Red counterpart. There are also still ledges on the road to the Power Plant, which is mandatory in Crystal. We could get away with just using Rock Tunnel, which is a lot easier to navigate, but considering you have to go back and forth between Cerulean and the Power Plant multiple times, we'll probably end up tackling the ledge at least once.

They added another democracy change again?

That's going to end well. Time to be stuck for another day lol.

How did we get the GS Ball?

Hax

In Kanto the views will go up again because of all the ledges, Red, etc

but holy fuck did the democracy change kill the stream

Nah, I think it's more a combination of fatigue (it's really hard to keep up with the stream for so long even with the live update site), the novelty wearing off, and the fact that the original is a lot more familiar/iconic for most people.

So guys, meet ledge 3.0, right outside Ice Path. The stream was about to use democracy to cheat their way through without even trying, but we were saved by a trainer standing right in front of the ledge. Thank god.

People have to get back to their lives. TPP was a nice diversion but the huge involvement can't go on indefinitely.

Seriously. I just tuned in and I saw they were using democracy to get past. I figured they tried and failed a couple dozen times... then the trainer went to go battle them. From there I knew they didn't even try the ledge once. Needless to say, I was disappointed.

The new democracy change is hardly what killed the stream, TBH it's more exciting this way. All possible to revert the change in the blink of an eye, in a vote that has already been tallied and you frantically try to control even though there is no hope.

Man, I got bored of this since a few days... I don't even bother watching anymore. At first it seemed like a huge thing but now it's starting to feel like a flavor-of-the-month thing. Have I missed something since last week?

Is "mongs" considered particularly offensive? Got temp banned for saying it with the diretide emote.

I always thought it was just another low-level word for idiot that has the bonus of sounding kinda funny when spoken aloud.

I've never heard "mongs". Might've been the emote, might've just been the overzealous easily triggered auto-ban system.
