Why couldn't they get Supermassive to work on Until Dawn 2. I'm so confused lol.
cause they're working on their own games, they tried the spin-off studio of former Supermassive peeps (Ballistic Moon) for the Until Dawn remake and it was a mess....so now they're doing it internally. It's not a complex game, not like supermassive has been hitting on their games anyways, they're all worse than Until Dawn was.

Because Supermassive games bettrayed Sony (Published their next game at Namco Bandai when Sony supported Until Dawn 1 for many years, even when it was a PS3 PSMove games, and the Until Dawn 2 prototype that Sony had funded was sold to 2K for The Quarry, then Supermassive had developers split up. Somes of this devs was now in Ballistic Moon Studio, the guys behind Until Dawn Remaster).

The more weird thing is why Firesprite in Behind Until Dawn 2 and not Ballistic Moon Studio?

There were already two threads about this; Sony had pretty much nothing to do with one of those GAAS titles, they sold the IP to another company once they acquired Firesprite.
Twisted Metal was the other one, but that didn't get too far along, I think.
Project Heartbreak isn't really confirmed to be Until Dawn 2, it could be a sequel to The Persistence for all we know. I kinda hope it's a new Siren, I wouldn't be against a Western-made entry.

But you said how much Sony has sunken into GaaS , I'm pretty sure they are still up overall when it comes to GaaS .
Yes, within the context of canceled GAAS games. Concord might as well have been canceled since it effectively sold 0 copies.

I understand these games are high risk, high reward - but this seems like a poor strategy.

Even so, they only need to succeed with one. And I think for them, their definition of success is something around Fortnight's numbers.

How much has Sony sunken in GAAS over the past 3-5 years? $500M? Those games didn't return a penny.

There was also a canceled Twisted Metal live service game and a canceled game from London Studios. Bungie's Destiny spinoff Payback was canceled. Deviation Games closed after Sony canceled the live service games they were working on.

I couldnt finish Until Dawn or The Quarry. I like walking sim / movie QTEs but these just felt juvenile. I get that's the whole point for this type of horror, but it just didnt do it for me.

I highly doubt that. Concord alone sunk about $400M-$500M.

So unless Helldivers 2 magically recouped that much to cover just Concords failure, there's no way Sony is up on GAAS.

This still makes no sense to me, I can understand if Firesprite was the ones that did the Remake of Until Dawn and is now making a sequel but I haven't seen anything to suggest they could even make a Sequel to Until Dawn.
Sure you got The Persistence, but that's not even close to the same thing.
At least Ballistic Moon has the history going back to the original, it's very odd if true.

Until Dawn remake did not taught any lesson apparently
It must be the most forgotten game of 2024. It was also the most unnecessary game of 2024, because the original still looked great. They should have just ported the original to PC with some cleaned up textures and been done with it.

Good. Now they’re making a game I’ll actually play. Sony has and work with a lot of studios, but it feels like there’s been a massive drought of Sony games and it’s because they had everyone chasing GAAS for years, most of which have been cancelled.

They're doing a lot of those remasters to cash in on film/TV adaptations.

Horizon TV show was planned to premiere this year on Netflix but it got canned due to a showrunner scandal.

IIRC, Until Dawn and even Days Gone have been linked with having adaptations too.
