Insider Gaming has learned that Ubisoft is currently developing a new Battle Royale game that's heavily inspired by Apex Legends.

The game, which is currently under the project name 'Scout' is so heavily inspired by Respawn Entertainment's highly successful Apex Legends that it was once used as the thumbnail for the project.

It's understood that the game has been in development for at least a couple of years and will feature "very similar" characters to Apex Legends including a spin on Pathfinder, Wraith, Lifeline, and other characters from the game.

One source said on the project, "I think the goal is to capitalize on the player count of Apex dropping and them [Ubisoft higher-ups] thinking there's room in the market for another hero Battle Royale."

Interestingly enough, the project seems to go against Ubisoft's own internal research team, who recently asked the question as to "what's next after Battle Royale" while citing the decline in players across various Battle Royale games, including Apex Legends.

That is a fantastic idea. This market isn't nearly saturated, and Ubisoft has a reputation for high quality competitive games. Can you imagine how successful this will be if they also add bold and new ideas like for example characters, cosmetics and skins? Here's another great idea that'll guarantee them success: Give it a Pixar-esque artstyle, really colorful and so on. We all know the kids love Fortnite so they'll love this one, too.

I still play Apex and you're going to have to do a lot better than "inspired by" and "room in the market for".

FFS, do Apex but only PvE/campaign with 4 content drops per year and story/loot/progression. Boom, instant smash hit.

Just pick up where Blackout left off. I can't believe they stopped that for garbage Warzone. And do the complete opposite of Xdefiant, lmao.

But fuck all that. Focus on The Division 3, whores.

Ubisoft is like a gambler at this point.
They think they will win on the next bet, but wife is already gone, kids hate them and bank is after them for that second mortgage.

Ubisoft is making a game in an oversaturated market based on a dying game.

Let me guess, even though Apex was free whatever Ubislop releases will be paid.

Ubisoft deserves it's fate.

these companies invest insane amount of money into projects like this and it is a huge gamble that has worked like 3 times in a sea of failures

Place your bets. Canceled like Ghost Recon Frontline and The Division Heartland or EOS in just over a year like XDeeznuts?

They've clearly learnt their lessons :messenger_tears_of_joy:

although i wonder if it's the tencent side and it will be little waifus you can buy in packs or something along those lines.

Game development taking way to long, chasing trends that have since expired. No interest in this what so ever, but good luck UbiSoft. You and your share holders are going to need it.

I'm pretty sure they already did that and it flopped so hard I'm not even sure anymore that game ever released.

Once again I'm asking GAF to make some money on Ubisoft's poor planning. It's literally free. This might pay for my vacation. Keep em coming Ubi!

I imagine it runs on t he same in-house engine they've been using for eons now and will sport extremely poor visibility (as in the case in all their multiplayer games).

HyperScape and XDefiant both failed.

I actually commend Ubisoft for not giving up and for trying again. It is easy to laugh and yeer, but it is more difficult to get back up.

I imagine Ubisoft's boardroom like one of those Twilight Zone moments when it's revealed that the room really just houses some super computer toying with humanity.

Why do they keep wasting money on this shit that no one wants?

You guys sound crazy.

Pitfall, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros... "Why do they keep making 2D platformers? No one wants them if you ignore the fact they they're the most popular games in the industry!"
