Ubisoft listens to gamers and changes Lumines boxart

chespace

It's not actually trolling if you don't admit it
Well it's a little better. :)

Games press should be getting their U.S. versions next week. Can't wait to see all the changes.

I don't even know what's different. The grids I think? Still crappy

p.s. Can someone link me to good gameplay videos that aren't IGN or Gamespot? Or make some good videos with the US build...

1, Yes, it is a little better.

2. OH MY GOD THEY LISTENED

Whoever got the message through, thank you.

Next up: have them crucify whoever translated Advance Guardian Heroes. They don't have to use a cross if they're sensitive about religious issues... a regular ol' stake will do.

Thanks!

EDIT: Wario -- putting back the puzzle piece was a smart move. And the logo actually has some balance now, which was desperately needed.

EDIT (again): Hmm, yeah, looking at them side by side, the new one is a lot better. I'm really glad they listened though, seriously.

The new cover looks like when you accidently leave something in the sun and it gets the burnt orange color. :(

Better but still crap. If they're really listening just give us the original cover. It's not like this one is guranteed to make more money or something.

I'd like to see some mention of music on the cover instead of some dumb-looking disco chick. "Puzzle Fusion" doesn't say anything about what kind of game this is. Fusion with what?

"Puzzle x Music" made more sense. And mentioning the artists somewhere would've been nice, too. It's a selling point for people who are into that kind of music.

Last but not least... do something about that Q? logo. The white background is horrible, and slapping it right in the middle like that destroys any semblance of balance or subtlety... if it has to look like that, they should integrate it into one of the puzzle blocks or something.

Seriously, the fact that they changed the box art gives the impression that Ubi Soft actually listens, and that does alot look for how I view them as a company. Good job Ubi, you've got a fan in me.

Better!

Ubi respect +1

+0.5 for me. They could have easily just removed the grid pattern overlay from the penis ship art and it'd be fine

Respect +1. Not sure if I want the game as I haven't really been investigating PSP titles yet, but I'll at least look into it now :)

Yes.

Now they need to replace deadly demon afro girl with say, a dead cat or a train and this would be hot shit.

HELLO UBISOFT INTERNET PEOPLE, PLEASE PICK UP THE RIGHTS TO PUBLISH METEOS IN TEH AMERICA AND STUFF NOW OKAY THX <3 LET'S SEX.

Yeah, I'm definitely glad they listened. This kind of thing is very important in this industry; I'd like to see companies like EA and Sega listen up once in a while, too.

Regarding the box art, here's a really shitty Photoshop (sorry) trying to show how they can further improve it:

Maybe I'm just being anal, but being anal is what makes Japanese art look so good all the time. They obsess over every little detail. Moving the ugly white Q logo out of the bottom section cleans up the image a lot and makes it look more balanced.

Am I just going crazy or does anyone agree with me?

It still looks like crap. The girl needs to go and there is too much blue at the bottom. Just give us the orignal cover for crying out loud!

I like your render better. The Q? logo is completely out of place and barely anybody is going to know what it means at the moment so there is no point in making it so large. I like how you incorporated it into a puzzle piece.

Anyway, at least they're paying attention. The new boxart is better but of course, I would have preferred the original. Still, they listened and that is what really matters.

Responsing to consumer feedback is what makes me much more likely to buy the company's products. I have a lot of anime DVDs because representatives often visit the AOD forum, respond, and see direct changes in the retail products.

You know, looking at that, if they actually just took out the girl entirely and left the background and everything else how it is, I would actually like that more than the JP version, and I'm currently using the JP art as my desktop.

The best Lumines video I've seen yet is on GameInformer's website. The editor plays through the entire first skin, and the audio is top-notch. In fact, I ripped the audio into a mp3 file so I could listen to it. :lol

I don't have the link, but maybe you can find it. I would upload it, but I'm too lazy.

Yeah I tried to search for that video in gameinformer.com but the only thing that comes up is the Ubisoft press release or whatever :|

This is really sad that Ubisoft did this. :lol I don't know, I could never picture myself getting upset about boxart like you guys can...

It's much better now. But there still is something wrong with the lower blue part. That part looks like a book and how the hell is it related to the game??

That is still the worst fucking box art ever. God, how hard is it to make a quality box art Ubi? Screw you people for praising Ubi Soft for such a sub par box art. I could make something better in 15 mins time.

Yeah, worst ever. Right.

I really don't understand the concern about box art in general. For something like this, I don't think it would bother me even if it had 72pt Comic Sans as the font and Carrot Top in the background.

What the hell is great about this game, I really don't know, could someone explains why it's getting so much hyper over here?

(relatively) simple but very addicting gameplay + nice music

The Lumines box art has so much wrong with it, it's a design nightmare! While not pretty, and while I don't even care about the games, the Rainbow Six box arts get their job done. Lumines is a travesty. This is one of the few games that will make me buy a PSP, and one of those types of games that could fall into the "are games art?" debate. Personally I think it's one of the worst that I've seen, considering what the actual game tries to present to the player.

If I was Tetsuya Mizuguchi, I would be highly offended. I know most gamers could care less about box art, especially casual crowd, but I'm picky and I love design. Screw me for wanting a product to be HIGH QUALITY all around.

Tetris had this too, why does this one is getting so much lovin'?

Tetris is around for so long, this is a new game and it's part of a launch line-up of a new system and one of or maybe the best game of this line-up. sure it's not a entirely new concept but it's just very good implemented.

Without even dragging old boxarts into play here (many of which are beyond terrible), I'd say ICO's US boxart was much worse in regards to "selling" the game. It totally failed to represent what the game was about and was just plain ugly to look at.

Stop the stupidity, that "new" boxart is just as hideous as the older one - but now with

- crapper typography (early 2000s fad font)
- more unnecessary design elements (bubbles? why?)
- even more clutter with semi-transparent multicolor squares
- even brigter color mess to scream X-itement dudezz!

The Japanese artwork was more than fine with

- retro 80s Microgramma Extended font
- retro 80 lineart satellite
- no fucking so-90s outer glows in the logo
- simple PUZZLE X MUSIC tagline
- artist names to emphasize underground chic
- relaxing blue color to go with a relaxing game
