On another note, the entire bar went "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH" at the end of the first round when that scene (in the gif) appeared. I don't think anyone expected that much damage, that fast. :lol

The live crowd went fucking nuts when the video screens showed Kos' swollen face after round 1.

other aside, Re: those saying "GSP clearly has no interest in finishing fights anymore."

Ya, I'm disappointed in the lack of finish here.

But please, compare a fight like this to when Anderson Silva shits up the joint against Leites or Maia. What do you get out of Silva? A lot of defensive responses, saying how much he is satisfied with his performance, and saying the fans don't understand what they are seeing.

GSP? Even though he busted Kos up, he says that he is not satisfied with his performance because he did not get the finish.

GSP remains a humble perfectionist. No gloating about his win, no saying that he is satisfied...he expresses honest disappointment and a desire to improve in the future. That's why he's the best.

I'm hoping Brookins stays the way he is too, UFC could use more guys like both of them.

" and saying the fans don't understand what they are seeing."

I am sure you will find a few interviews this week with GSP saying just that. He often brings up the fact that his opponents are high level and therefore are nigh impossible to finish.

He also said he doesn't gamble, so they are impossible to finish when he's going by his game plan, which is to win while risking as little as possible.

He's smart, and from my experience, most people watching UFC or any MMA competition don't know what they are watching, this is evident at cheers for nothing more than an ineffectual take down, or booing when the match is taking place mostly on the ground, even when a lot of work is being done.

It kinda helps when the people watching actually know what it takes to do what these guys do, and especially when they know HOW to do some of the things these guys do.

I'm sorry, but there isn't anything to dispute here; GSP scarcely put together a combo and even those were almost always limited to a 1-2. Seeing someone get jabbed for five rounds straight doesn't make for an interesting fight.

Seems like that's more Kos' fault than it is GSP's.

The thing is, GSP will only try for a finish if there is no possible way that it could expose any type of vulnerability. He fights safe fights, he said as much is the post fight presser.

The reason many MMA fans have such a large amount of love for guys like Fedor and Wand is that they always go for broke every time.

edit: beaten

I'll admit I'm a fan of GSP but like I said with my other post I think GSP finishing him on the ground could have been brutal. Maybe GSP was just fine with taking the win but I think if he wanted to he could have went for a couple of jab feints and taken Josh down...imagine a couple of elbows and hammerfists on a broken orbital bone.

Kos is lucky that Georges spared him.

I understand that GSP was really hurting and putting on a clinic on Kos standing up, and it was an exciting fight for me. But I still think GSP is a little gun-shy and was hesitant to unleash and go in for the kill. I think he had ample opportunities to do that. Why couldn't he open up at the last 10 seconds of every round and flurry the fuck out of Kos, especially in round 5 when Kos was clearly spent/beat-up/slow and could offer nothing in return? Nevertheless, an awesome performance by GSP as always.

Dana White Says Anderson Silva, GSP Have Cleaned Out Their Weight Classes

Following UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre's stellar title defense against Josh Koscheck this weekend, discussions surrounding a superfight between he and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva have grown much more prevalent. UFC President Dana White has long maintained that a fighter should clean out his respective division before being allowed to move up or down in weight to challenge for other belts. According to White's comments at the UFC 124 post-fight presser, he believes that both men have done so and that a superfight is likely looming on the horizon.

"He [GSP] has cleaned out the division now. Georges St-Pierre has beaten everybody," White said of the French-Canadian champion. "He lost to [Matt] Serra, but he came back and avenged it. That's what it's all about for me."

GSP has discussed the superfight at length, saying that a move to middleweight would likely be a permanent one. Should St. Pierre make that move, White said that he will be fighting Silva for the middleweight title.

"If Georges said he was going to go to 185 and stay there, then it would be for the title," he said. "It would be a superfight for the 185-pound title."
What do you guys think? Time for Silva and GSP to fight?

When is the last time Silva put on a good effort with his striking? I know he knocked out Forrest, but 2006-2007 (when he was in God mode) is getting further and further away.

Silva is now 35 and would likely be 36 or 37 by the time he would fight GSP, whereas GSP is still in his prime.

One thing is for certain, GSP won't just jab his way to victory in that fight.

it's 4th of July in my asshole
Mmmmmmmmmm he's been well off his game lately, think he said he was "injured" in both his last fights. Maybe GSP will motivate him more, he's always said he wants big name fights so GSP would do it for him.

Wrong, he did a few combinations that were so fast maybe you just didn't take notice. Jab, leg kick, Super GSP Punch. Guy is amazingly fast when he wants to be. If I had the technology and the fight on this work PC I would try to prove it. Youtube access would help too. But alas.

I'll only comment I have is that GSP should have decapitated Kos with a high right leg kick. He had multiple opportunities for it.

I don't think it's a smart move for GSP, it's perfectly fine for Silva, GSP would be at a huge disadvantage while Silva would be at a huge advantage, plus it could potentially screw with GSP's body and training (as he said post fight).

He should just stick where he is. When you're the best, you're the best. No need to risk it.

I'd love to see GSP and Silva fight.

Define 'good'. Obviously the Sonnen fight wasn't good. Other than that he has dominated the striking since he's been in the UFC. Just like GSP, he isn't one to take chances so he hasn't finished some fighters that he should have. I wouldn't say that makes his striking efforts not good.

Also, the reason he looks so dominant against the likes of Forrest and James Irvin is because he is a counter fighter and they came straight for him. Same with Marquardt to a lesser extent. Leites and Maia didn't want to come forward.

He might be the best... but there's always the lingering question of "Can he beat another 'best?' If he didn't beat Silva or some of the other major players can you truly say he's the best?"

That type of question eats at competitive guys.

I think this fight will happen.

I'm a HUGE GSP fan, but I think a fight between he and Silva would be fairly boring. George is smart enough not to try to stand up with him, and Anderson's BJJ is good enough to tie up GSP on the ground and avoid any damage. I think what we'd see is take down after take down with only minimal action once it goes to the ground.

It's a weird situation. GSP is such a finely tuned machine that I really think that the talk of moving up stems more from the interest in it than any personal desire. You can see that in the way he phrases his respionses. I think he is genuinely concerned about messing up his timing and all the other pains of moving up like that. GSP doesn't go in there to Just Scrap so it would probably take him nine month to a year to get ready (believe he said as much). And in the meantime what if Okami or anyone else just smothers Silva for five rounds without begging him to lock in a sub like Sonnen did? Then that match isn't even for the title anymore.

Real problem is there are so few exciting fighters left for him to take on where he's at. One of the reasons Dan Hardy got Fast-Passed (and then proceeded to show everyone he didn't deserve it at all -- not only because he lost decisively, which everyone knew he would -- but because he didn't take any chances the entire fight).

Yes, you can say unequivocally he's the best, since Silva is not in his weight class.

The risk does not match the reward for GPS to even bother moving up, IMO.

The mentality that he's not the best unless he keeps moving up in weight classes is just retarded in my opinion.

i know ppl always talk about a punchers chance, but in this fight i really feel like vitor could have a puncher's chance in the first round, after the first rd though no way vitor wins.

Isn't that how it always goes? Everytime we get close to a real UFC superfight, someone gets hurt or someone loses to a guy they were supposed to beat.

Zuffa just announced UFC Brazil 2 for August 27th with Royce in attendance. Hmm....
