UFC 126 - Silva vs Belfort - LIVE on Pay Per View

Super Saturday, February 5th, 2011
Mandalay Bay Events Centre, Las Vegas, NV

KID Yamamoto vs. Demetrious Johnson at 5pm PT/8pm ET Streaming from the UFC's Facebook Page
Prelims LIVE on Spike at 6pm PT/9pm ET
PPV LIVE at 7pm PT/10pm ET

This is, by far, one of the most stacked lineups the UFC has ever put together for one event. Historically, the UFC tends to put on stacked events on Super Bowl weekend except for last year when many of the top guys were injured. Here's the card:

Main Card (on Pay Per View):

Middleweight Championship: Anderson "The Spider" Silva (Champion) vs. Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort
Light Heavyweight bout: Forrest Griffin vs. Rich "Ace" Franklin
Welterweight bout: Jake Ellenberger vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha
Light Heavyweight bout: Jon "Bones" Jones vs. Ryan Bader
Bantamweight bout: Miguel Angel Torres vs. Antonio Banuelos

Preliminary Card (on Spike TV):

Lightweight bout: Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone vs. Paul Kelly
Featherweight bout: Chad "Money" Mendes vs. Michihiro Omigawa

Streaming Live from the UFC's Facebook Page:

Bantamweight bout: Norifumi "KID" Yamamoto vs. Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson

Unaired Preliminary Card (will be recorded to air later on PPV and/or Spike if time allows):

Lightweight bout: Paul Taylor vs. Gabe Ruediger
Light Heavyweight bout: Kyle Kingsbury vs. Ricardo Romero
Welterweight bout: Mike Pierce vs. Kenny Robertson

Rooting for Belfort,Griffin and Bader.

I don't get many of the PPVs but I HAVE to get this one. That card is absolutely stacked.

Noice to Cerrone getting some prime time prelim love. Any UFC fans not aware of him yet are gonna love him.

I'll be posting from inside the arena @ Mandalay... can't fucking WAIT
So jealous. I really really contemplated going but I just didn't have the cajones to fly out there alone. Oh well. Enjoy. It should be awesome.

Catching Bones throwin dem bows in-person, I'm jealous.

I wonder if he'll look to try to put Bader away in the early going or pace himself a bit more. He came out ferociously against Matyushenko - even more than he usually does - because he wanted to prove a point.

Here's the poster I was going to use on the thread, think it looks pretty cool.

As for the fight... Well Vitor hasn't fought in over a year, during which he had major surgery. He hasn't had to cut to 185 in 2 years, and he's always had cardio issues. Everything seems to point to him getting completely destroyed, ring rust is a motherfucker.

Anderson/Vitor could be amazing. But I was rewatching the Belfort/Franklin fight recently and Vitor was taking a counter striking approach and waiting for Rich to engage first. If he does that with Anderson we know what happens when guys don't engage Silva. Could end up with Dana pissed off at him yet again.

I'm a huge Silva fanatic, but even I must admit that Vitor's hands have me worried. Although I'd still give Silva a slight edge in BJJ.

This. I don't think Silva will risk trading with Vitor, ffs he wouldn't risk trading with Cote. Maybe Vitor will blow his knee. Either it explodes in the first round, and Vitor or Anderson gets T/KO'd, or we're going to a Cote style circus. Crowd will be booing at some point in the first round I presume.

Oh Forrest Griffin how far have you fallen. If Franklin beats him this fight I'd say his career is close to being over.
He lost to Rashad Evans and Anderson Silva, then took a fight with Tito on very short notice and won. Prior to that, he defeated Rampage and Shogun. I don't think he has fallen as far as you believe.

I think Griffin vs. Franklin is going to be a very evenly matched and exciting fight. Franklin has a bit more going for him on the technique side and Forrest has a bit more of an edge in the size department.

Middleweight Championship: Anderson "The Spider" Silva (Champion) vs. Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort
Light Heavyweight bout: Forrest Griffin vs. Rich "Ace" Franklin
Welterweight bout: Jake Ellenberger vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha
Light Heavyweight bout: Jon "Bones" Jones vs. Ryan Bader
Bantamweight bout: Miguel Angel Torres vs. Antonio Banuelos

book it.

Here are my picks.

Anderson Silva (c) vs. Vitor Belfort (TKO, Round 3)
Forrest Griffin (UD) vs. Rich Franklin
Jake Ellenberger (TKO, Round 3) vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha
Jon Jones (TKO, Round 1) vs. Ryan Bader
Miguel Torres (UD) vs. Antonio Banuelos
Donald Cerrone (Submission, Round 2) vs. Paul Kelly
Chad Mendes (UD) vs. Michihiro Omigawa
Paul Taylor vs. Gabe Ruediger (Submission, Round 2)
Norifumi Yamamoto vs. Demetrious Johnson (UD)
Kyle Kingsbury vs. Ricardo Romero (Submission, Round 1)
Mike Pierce (UD) vs. Kenny Robertson

The Belfort pick is really a hope, rather than a legitimate prediction. The rest are predictions.

Yeah but the one I posted is official artwork by Richard T. Slone. The UFC store is selling the autographed version which is limited to 126 copies online, and a regular version is limited to 1500 copies and will be sold both online and at the event.

Jon Jones reach advantage over fighter is ridiculous. Bader will be eating elbows all night long.

Silva vs. Vitor... has the makings of an epic. But i'm pretty sure someone's getting knocked out or submitted pretty quickly.

i'm no fan of bader, but bones rubs me the wrong way. i'd like to see him lose.

Im still pissed that kid is on the undercard.

And im not saying shit this time.

Yeah, it sucks.

I'm looking more forward to watching KID fight than the Silva vs. Belfort fight.

I hope KID has still got it, and won't be made a fool out of.

Vitor is on the Dolce Diet and has been for a while. He'll be good.

As for KID, it'll be interesting to see how he fights without those shoes he always wears.

Vitor Belfort was one of the first MMA fighters I ever watched back in the day, right around the time when the Ultimate Fighting Championship game came out for the Dreamcast (I still have my copy too). I can't believe that was 11 years ago. That game was actually my introduction to MMA, I had never even heard of the sport before that.

But yeah, I am PRAYING to Jeebus for Vitor to KO Andy.

ive only seen a few fights of his here and there... one of those guys talked up by the presenters but when i watched it was nothing much to see... hopefully hes refreshed and fully fit

havent watched a silva fight for ages and from the highlights i dont feel like watching uneven demolitions... hopefully its a long, good fight

Griffin vs. Ace

Will Ace have superior speed and walk over Griffin to a KO or UD? Or will Griffin muscle his way in and grind it out?

Belfort vs. Silva

Is Belfort the fastest striker Anderson has faced? Counter punching match? Who will go for it?

Vitor is gonna get stomped, hasn't fought in a year and a half, and never had the greatest gas tank. Ring rust+no heart = bad night for Vitor.

and whoever picks Johnson over Kid is fucking crazy.

Silva will KO Vitor in round 1 followed by GSP entering the cage and saying he wasn't impressed with his performance.

It's not like he's been sitting around getting fat this whole time. He had an almost full training camp for UFC 112 last March coming off the KO of Ace, got injured, had surgery, then got right back to training for Okami, then got pulled from that fight to fight Andy again and was training non-stop since then.

This isn't your ordinary ring rust situation like with Rampage when he left to do a movie.

Unless Kid fights like almost every other japanese fighter that's come to US, in which case Johnson is the easy bet.
