he asked for the match and had second thoughts so instead of admitting that he didn't want to do it he just refused to show up for UFC 200 promotions. he forced Dana to take him off the card.

total coward

Terrifying how some so called UFC "fans" can out carny the most carny of Wrasslin fans.

How people reach conclusions like this, I don't know.

Cormier's takedown wasn't a gift; as I remember it he had to use a ton of effort to get Jones down. I usually don't like hypothetical MMA scenarios but Cormier is one of the best wrestlers in all of MMA. He's got some of the best credentials of any grappler in MMA. He should have outwrestled Jones and it's not far-fetched to think that he might be able to win three rounds out of five with his wrestling.

Jones' gameplan of working the body on Cormier was a smart one, no doubt. He gassed, hard. Coming from HW, with a history of weight cut issues as a wrestler, and with some of the dumbass training you see at AKA, that really fucked with Daniel.

Yeah, this fight costs the UFC millions versus the Diaz/Conor fight. If the card had both fights, it would be incredible and a must-buy. As it is, I'm not really convinced. This isn't as amazing as UFC100 even though there are a lot of legit, relevant fights... it lacks spectacle.

Yeah he's a fantastic wrestler but it's not that he wouldn't wrestle Jones. He couldn't. He tried countless times to take him down and couldnt. I'm sure the fight will be different this time around as both have improved and Bones is coming into the fight even stronger than their first (Which DC said he was surprised by when they first fought. Coming from a guy who fought at HW). If the Jones that fought OSP shows up, I can see Cormier getting a win. I would much rather they trade wins (like Ali Frazier) than a complete steamroll by Jones tbh.

1.5M vs 750K

I think the Conor/Diaz fight would have done 2M or more. This isn't a regular event. Even Brock did 1.6M @ 100 with the help of GSP and the 100 name.

This will probably do somewhere in the 1m-1.5m range with the new headliner. Either way, it should be a pretty good payday for everyone involved.

Yeah there is no chance this does under 1 million. In fact I think 1.5 is achievable.

Jones vs DC 1 did 820,000 buys by itself. This card feature Tate as well who is a proven decent draw with 2 million fans on Facebook. Not to mention you have 3 title fights and the whole "UFC 200" milestone as well.

1 million will be rather easy to pull. So yep I'm right in the same range with you. 1 - 1.5 million.

Random factoid

Conor/Nate makeshift press conference in a UFC Gym announced less than 24 hours before it happened, garnered 220K viewers on YouTube.

UFC 200 press conference, planned for weeks at MSG, did 33K viewers.

Pay the man his monies.

I like the fighters in 200 but each of these title bouts are likely to result in 25 minute grinds. Of these, Edgar v Aldo may satisfy but not going to hold my breath on that. I find 198 to be a more exciting card. I am disappointed in the 200 card in this aspect.

Lauzon vs Sanchez is going to be amazing

Jones vs Cormier is a way more important rematch than Diaz vs McGregor

True, but so much less interesting to watch. Even getting dominated on the second round and choked out, McGregor put a more exciting performance than Jones in his last fight (which he ended up winning 50-45).

This card will never break a million PPV buys.

Edit: I'll elaborate a little bit. Everyone knows McGregor vs Diaz won't get to the cards. One of them is getting put down (and if McGregor doesn't make big improvements it'll be him, which is why he wants to train). And you know Jones vs Cormier will be a decision after a boring grind.

This main event is way better than a McGregor/Diaz rematch to me.

I rather see McGregor defend his belt against Edgar or fight Dos Anjos for the Lightweight belt than a meaningless rematch where the outcome may most likely be the same.

But what if it isn't?

That's why people will tune in and it makes it's what makes the fight so exciting.

McGregor's power is his biggest asset and it very effective against Featherweights because he naturally walks around at 170 rather than the 145 he fights at. If Conor fought primarily at 170 I doubt he would be the big knockout specialist like he is known for.

Seriously Diaz was sitting on his couch getting high and doing nothing and took the McGregor fight on extremely short notice and handled him. What would happen if Diaz has a full camp to actually prepare better?

On the other hand Jones and Cormier legitimately hate each other outside the ring and even though Jones handled OSP he still looked rusty from not fighting for so long.

Diaz was training for a triathlon before getting the call for the Conor fight.

This will clear 1 million rather easily.

I just don't see it.

Aldo draws sub-200k. Edgar is a blackhole and is usually free fights like Hendrix and the other has-beens or no-names that don't attract casuals. Can Jones vs Cormier draw over a mil when their last fight was garbage and did 800k? 187 had 375k buys which had LHW and MW title fights... This card needs Conor, GSP, or Ronda to clear over a mil "rather easily".

GSP vs Conor. Pay them both and UFC gets their biggest event ever.

I get to watch GSP rag doll Conor for 5 rounds like a sack of potatoes.

1 million + isn't guaranteed like it would've been with Conor vs. Nate, but it has a very good chance to hit 1 million. The prestige of "200" will give it a boost for sure, the drama surrounding Jones vs. Cormier, and the overall strength of the card should be enough to reach 1 million.

Whether it clears 1 mill or not, this isn't going to beat Conor/Diaz 1 and that should be embarrassing for Dana and UFC.

dumbest shit ive ever read

Diaz was training for a triathlon before getting the call for the Conor fight.

Im exaggerating on him getting high on his couch but Diaz himself right after the fight said in an interview he wasn't in good shape so how is it the "dumbest shit youve ever read"?

Interview is in youtube link...

Yeah I think I could have done better with a [full training] camp. I don’t think [any] shots would have landed.

“I didn’t have any sparring."

“I was just in a yacht two weeks ago and they called."

“The good thing is I got sick in Mexico and I didn’t eat for three days, so when I got home I was kind of light."

“They called, so I said, let’s make this weight.”

What did 197 do like? I know the gate was significantly less than 196. Like 8+ million vs 2, which is a massive difference. It was the return of Jones after more than a year and it didn't seem to be a huge draw. McGregor's tweets probably didn't help either.

I maintain that Dana has lost his mind if McGregor doesn't show up at 200

We know he was at least lying about the weight though, when he said he could've made 155. Then they offered 160 which he still couldn't make and instead of going 165 Conor said fuck it let's do 170.

I think we can all agree there's no way McGregor would ask for higher weight class when he was already training for a 155 fight.

Aldo: "In my opinion I'm still the champ"

Well it's quite possible he doesn't actually remember anything since that knockout.

Nate Confirmed that he was not training for a triathlon before the fight. It was PR hype BS by the UFC.

Conor got stomped by a dude that wasn't training for anything on two weeks notice. I can't believe people thought he could take Robbie Lawler. lmao

I don't think anyone thought he could take on Lawler though, at least on the short term. Some (including Dana and Joe Rogan) had serious doubts he could take on Dos Anjos.

No one that can drop to 145 can seriously take on a 170 division. However as he gets older he will be forced to go up at least to 155. He won't be able to make that cut forever. If he packs on muscle for a few years maybe he could seriously compete at 170, though he probably won't be the top dog there. Right now though? Absolutely impossible. He walks around at 170 right now, he's giving up way too much size.
