I'll be straight up with it. I like Shogun but I think he is overrated. His stand up isn't that great. What makes it good is because he mixes it up by taking ppl down, ground and pound (stomps), so if they get up, they are so dazed, he can get you with his stand up. Forest Griffin is a big 205'r. And he is training with Randy. I am sure, 100%, that Forest Griffin will come out with a game plan and execute it well. Shogun will have a hard time taking Forest down. So basically if Forest can stop all Shogun attempts of a takedown, he has the fight. If Shogun gets the fight down, he wins. And another point I will like to add is that all the PRIDE fighters haven't been looking good in the UFC. They are fighting in a cage now, which has a lot more space than a small ring. The rules are different. And the allowance of elbows.

I don't think you know Shogun that well. His standup is wild, but more powerful and accurate than Forrest's has ever been. He does not need to take this fight down to win, if he can get Forrest in the clinch it will be end game - I dont think anyone at Extreme Couture is good enough to prepare Forrest for Shoguns excellent clinch game. I think Forrest has a chance, but if Forrest fights like he did against Ramirez, he's done for. Im picking Shogun, 2nd round tko or submission.

ex-Pride fighters haven't been looking good? Thats nonsense. Cro Cop hasnt been looing good, I agree with that. But Nogiera (ok he got rocked by that kick by Herring, but he owned Herring in the standup and control the entire bout), Rampage, Dan Henderson and Anderson Silva (had more matches in Pride than anywhere else including the UFC) have all been impressive in the UFC.

I'm inclined to agree that Pride fighters haven't looked that good in UFC. Anderson Silva only fought what 5 matches in Pride? I don't consider him a Pride guy like Rampage, Big Nog, and Crocop who have like 20 Pride fights under their belt. Everyone knows Crocop has looked terrible. Big Nog could have very easily lost to Herring. I'd say Rampage is the exception to the rule, and I give a lot of credit to that to Juanito who has made him focus and channel the old Rampage, not the punching bag that got KO'ed by Shogun. Other than Rampage, the Pride guys have not looked impressive in the Octagon.

Well to further clarify, Shogun has one win over Rampage, he brutally beat him to a pulp in that match. And he does have a win against Nog. But that's not the Nog in the UFC, it's his twin brother Rogerio Nogueira who is a top 10 LHW but isn't signed with the UFC right now.

trying to do the MMAplayground picks this event is damn tough. This has to be the best event top to bottom in a while for the headlining contests. Even Liddell/Jardine is pretty interesting to me. I'm picking Chuck to win, but his big win streak came mostly against guys who'd prefer to take the fight to the ground against him. He's definately taken his share of shots mezger/overeem both dropped him once if I remember right before he lost to page. Then page drops him with the hook again after the big streak of wins against guys like Jeremy H, Tito, Randy, Babalu.

The way Chuck keeps his hands down and sometimes way outside leaves him open to take a big shot from someone who wants to stand and trade. Still, Jardine moves like a HW most of the time. He kind of plods forward. I think Chuck will float around and work angles and catch him eventually unless Jardine's footwork is greatly improved.

You don't think Nog look impressive? His boxing looked sharper than its ever look IMO, he rocked Herring and had him backing up. Yeah he could have lost, but that fluke kick Herring landed would have taken anyone out. But the fact that he was able to recover and dominate the fight...you can't call that unimpressive.

As far as Anderson Silva is concerned, he had 5 matches in Pride and 4 matches in the UFC. How can he not be considered an ex-pride fighter?

You're basing all this on 3 fighters, two of which haven't even lost in the UFC yet? Nog got rocked, but he still won and won very convincingly. Herring lost his opportunity at the end of round 1 and never came close again to defeating Nog. We'll see what happens when Shogun and Wanderlei fights.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is the UFC's inability to sign the top Pride fighters at the lighter weight classes. They sign Filho for the WEC, Kang goes to Hero's, and the top LW's like Gomi, Aoki, Kawajiri, and Mach are no where in sight.

Randy thinks Forrest will beat Shogun..

“I think he’s going to beat him every round. I just think the rules are different, and there’s a few other factors I’m not going to bring to light right now.”

though.. ofcourse.. randy trains with forrest :P

Well, the UFC has a pretty good LW division. It was at Heavy and LHW that they were thin, and or aging.

I think he trains with both Griffins on this card.

Will the stream be on Sopcast? The normal channel seems to be offline at the moment -- I hope there is some way to catch a stream of this event.

First UFC I will not be able to watch in a while. Got school work and don't feel like spending 40 to watch it by myself.

THEY BETTER!! Yeah, they will.

Although at the top of the screen it DOES say: UFC 76 will be streamed for people who made donations.

I think they will stream it, though. Why wouldn't they all of a sudden?

Just imagine how many chicks Chuck must bang? Dayum!

My picks. Basically upset specials galore.

Machida over Nakamura

Griffin over Tavares

Fitch over Sanchez

Griffin over Rua

Jardine over Liddel

Here we go!

Man, Jardine is one brutal looking dude. Here's hoping Forrest whoops Shogun.

Great fight, both guys looked awesome in there.

GRIFFIN!

These two are gonna have some great fights in the future.

edit:
HOLYSHITTHEAXEMURDERER!

I got lucky with that pick, I was shocked by the 30-27 score of one judge but let's see if I can keep it going with the Machida fight. I'm hoping for a few upsets.
