That's some impressive shit for the UK. When the Sony's most locked territory gets usurped by the dogs, Nintendo have to be happy. I think both consoles have a future here and in EU in general, and hopefully they can coexist for a long time to come.

I really hope the DS spanks the PSP just for a little while in EU, mainly cause every game store I've been in in Amsterdam, the DS section is terrible. If it can do well enough until stores catch on and start stoking good games LIKE CASTLEVANIA, then fine, PSP can have the win after that, but give me my selection damnit.

Of course there's a market for both PSP and DS in the UK.....and currently for GBA too. The best news is that the people currently buying DS are not the usual hardcore gamers who've been buying DS previously.....so we are actually widening the market.....which is great for Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.

I guess I'm a little surprised, but doesn't it stand to reason that only the super hardcore PS2 fans in Europe went out and bought the PSP (and all on day one?)... I recall reading that sales had pretty much tanked immediately afterward across Europe.
If that's the case, it should be no surprise that the doggies were enough to overcome momentarily, it is the DS's biggest game afterall.

Well....it's the biggest game on DS until Mario Kart DS comes out with the free Nintendo Wi-Fi connection at the end of November....and a whole new area of lapsed/new gamers pick up a DS for the free on-line play, and the best version of Mario Kart ever made......but then I guess you've got Liberty City Stories on PSP, so it's gonna be tough.....fingers crossed!!
PES 5 on PSP... or PES 5 on PS2/PC/xBox? Gamers will certainly not take both, and they may prefer to get the best copy, which is not the one missing the master league, proper controls, commentaries and the wide view. PES may not be a system seller for these reasons. GTA is the best chance PSP has to overcome DS competition.

This wont last long once PES5 comes out. The majority of England will be seen walking around with a PSP and a copy of PES5 being played.

why?
Well because the PSP has two of the most consistantly succesful series' to ever be released arriving on their portable. Get new POP's out there and leaflets around unis and schools etc about the DS.
The reason i say this is because nintendo UK can sometimes rest on their laurels and drift through entire generations. They have an oppertunity to fight back as NOJ(i know i know) has gifted them a gem in Mario kart and wi-fi.
I work in a large retailer probably the largest in the UK and i've noticed there is huge interest in GTA: LCS and Pro EVo 5 PSP and they're releasing right near eachother. nintendo take heed. :'|

I really think GTA is going to be a bomba (on these boards) with the amount of faith some of you have in it. When a game like Madden 06 bombs out of the gates, a game that cauals generally flock to bugs and all, I don't think it is safe to say any game will launch the PSP. In the US at least (as we were saying in the NPD thread) you are expecting one game to drive a $300 sale. With PES (in USD) you are expecting 2 games to drive a $350 sale. Just look at game sales for non-launch titles....
GTA and PES5 will sell great. but I would be seriously surprised if they sold a crapload of extra systems. the psp's price effectively kills the possibility of a system seller.

These sales are damn good. Over the month if these sales continued the DS would hit just shy of 100K. This is also just the UK not the whole of Europe and UK is normally around 25-35% of the European market. For reference the US DS hit a little over 50K the week of Nintendogs so the fact that the UK has hit about half that shows that relative to the market size the DS is doing better than it did in the US. The psp sales are also very good but that's to be expected considering this is only like 5 weeks after launch. It would be very interesting to see how things are gonna settle over the rest of the month. Shame these numbers are probably a one off.Speevy said:
