UK-GAF: How do you guys celebrate America kicking your ass?

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Happy Independence Day! I know I'll be waiting for sundown to enjoy some fireworks. But this makes me wonder: how do our former evil overlords across the pond celebrate their defeat? Do you supplicate yourselves in from of star spangled eagle altars and beg for forgiveness for taxing us without representation? And what do you do to thank the French on our behalf?

I'm American and grew up in the States. I am now living and Mexico and am a citizen. Once you're outside the States...there's no point in celebrating another country's independence. Respectfully, I'd celebrate it if I ever wanted to live in the States again...now I celebrate independence day the 16th of September (Mexican independence day). I imagine other countries are similar and don't pay much attention to holidays outside their own. Just a thought/observation.

What do you do to celebrate your defeat in the Mexican American war?

The same way Americans celebrate losing the vietnam war, first we pretend like we don't care, then we argue that we could have won if we hadn't hamstrung ourselves, then we decide we deserved to lose because we shouldn't have been fighting, then we argue that logistically it was a nightmare, then we minimize the ramifications of the loss, then we finally start wondering why the hell we do care, realize that is a hole we don't want to go down, and return to pretending that we don't care.

I'd think they don't care. The people that fought it have been dead for long ass time and national history tends to focus more on victories.

Plus, it's like your Thanksgiving, all I know is that you eat turkey, the reasons behind the day are unknown to me and, I'd assume, to most people that aren't americans.

We Americans had a lot of help from France and Spain. It's why we call our chips "French fries" and love women who speak Spanish.

It's true, google it.

What you americana don't know is that back in the day our scryers and their crystal balls foresaw America 2020 and the decision was taken to lose the war on purpose.

Well, last night I had a friend round in the back yard (socially distanced of course) and we had some beers and lit the fire. Had crisps too, I regret nothing.

We love you despite throwing our tea in the water. We'd overthrow the monarchy too if we were not so fat and content with our jaffacakes and twiglets.

Now they get to sit back and laugh as you all kick your own asses. I've never seen a country more divided.

Plus now they know how to win after watching Canada kick your ass.

Complete indifference.

For you guys it was the most important moment in your history, for us it was one part of a larger war against your allies, the French, that we went on to win.

It did teach us valuable lessons in how to manage colonies though, as well as effecting the opinions of those in charge on the right to vote and self determine both at home and abroad, and spur on the abolitionist movement that went on to end slavery for almost 2 centuries throughout most of the world.

Today though, I think we mostly admire you yanks for it.

You're our rebellious eldest child that took your temper tantrum and storming off to do your own thing, and became a world power off your own hardwork, all while keeping the same values of fairness, responsibility and equality you get from us.

We like you a hell of a lot more than your loyal but boring brother Canada, that's for sure.

We still like Australia the most though.

By reminding you that you would have lost without the French....
Well yes, but that downplays Washington, who was one of the most batshit insane military commanders that ever lived, as well as the luckiest jammy git to ever draw breath.

Seriously, there are battles that he won that required decisions no one in their right mind would make, that relied so heavily on factors that he couldn't predict, yet went perfectly for him every time.

People often downplay or besmirch the role luck plays in warfare, but Washington was brave enough to take risks that no other man would and won the war with those massive balls of his.

That victory kind of sucked for the slaves and natives, who were on our side, after though, which likely played a role in the mistrust and persecution of natives after, as well as contributing to the decades longer slavery lasted in the US compared to the rest of the world.

When I was living in America for a couple of years, it was a fucking amazing holiday. Now I don't even think about it.

By watching you Country become an episode of Monty Python.

I lament what could have become of the British Empire in modern times. We'd have been unstoppable 😉

In truth, I've worked closely with some US people over recent years and gained a new respect for the nation, seen first hand that you're not all the brash cunts UK TV and my early experience of playing you on Halo 2 made you out to be. So I'm not bitter. Enjoy your day ❤️

It's like in Starcraft, you build a base far away and see if it survives.

Currently the USA base has been infected by a queen and is now under attack from infected terrans.
