UK Shortages cost ££££

Don't see how anyone can suggest the shortages are hype after reports like this...
retailers must be pissed. :lol

MS really dropped the ball to gain some ground on Sony in Europe... in the console game it's generally mistakes that make a difference. And shortages during Xmas is a pretty big freakin mistake :lol :lol :lol

Hopefully Sony and MS mistakes will be Nintendo's gain... :lol :lol :lol

Edited for improved sarcasm... Gamecube is simply not wanted in the UK

Not happening.

Meanwhile, industry nose-tappers are also suggesting that Europe may have received something of a raw deal regarding allocation of both PS2 and Xbox hardware stock. “Retailers in Europe need a higher margin than their US counterparts and even then they end up making less money in the end. So when stock is tight, it’s easy to understand which territories will suffer first,” offered one analyst.

It's pretty much the same here in France, except you can still find some Fifa Xbox bundles. PS2 is very difficult to find, and our "walmart sized" stores (auchan, carrefour...) look like they do not have any at all.

I was in a branch of Geant last night(in Mulhouse), and they had quite a few fat PS2s in stock. As I mentioned before, I've seen them here in Basel and just over the other side of the border in Germany. I knew I should have gone ebaying with them.

I think both Microsoft and Sony scaled back production of their 2 respective hardwares for two reasons;

1) They're losing money per unit sold, and to kind of stem those losses while selling to their current userbase, they slowed production on thier expected busiest years.

2) Shifting production to the Cell/Xenon parts of their upcoming console and other various hardwares.

Well at least here near Paris my Auchan store had a big sign telling people that there was no PS2 in stock and to talk with a vendor about preordering one or something like that.
I'm glad I bought my PStwo just a couple of weeks ago :)
