It definitely was in 2017.I don't understand this. How is a hybrid a "novelty"?

I am (no worries got plenty to play), but still think having only one actual new experience to offer on launch day for your new console is pretty weak.Nintendo isn't giving a bunch of games day one anymore, they're spreading then through it the year, that worked great with Switch 1 so I think they rather make us wait a little in order to have a full cadence of content. Don't hurry, just go play something else somewhere else. I personally will be playing some PC games meanwhile, I bought the console for the Switch 1 upgrades and to be ready for whenever there release something new I care about, so far it's only Metroid and Kirby.
Switch launched with 3 1st party titles but it really just came down to BOTW as who gives the fuck about 1-2 Switch and Snipperclips.
This post is GoldThere is no real hype for the Switch 2 online. Nintendo's marketing has been ass. But the straw that broke the camel's back was Nintendo's game software price increase to 90 dollars as well as the huge price increase for peripherals like extra SW2 Pro Controllers and such (90 dollars as well).
Ain't nobody gonna buy a gaming console with software and hardware prices that high in this dire financial climate climate we're in now. I already smell a Wii U situation. I think Nintendo fucked up (again).
Switch 2 has by far the biggest game on a launch date in the Nintendo story or for other console, nothing comes close.I get what you are saying. Nintendo has consistently put out amazing products with maybe a few missteps (fuck you (though not you in particular) I liked the WiiU) so it's understandable that they have "super fans" even if it's cringe but Xbox doesn't really have that history.
I've owned and greatly enjoyed every single Xbox console but they really only have one truly great console being the Xbox 360. As great as I think the OG Xbox is most people really only remember Halo and maybe a couple other games, the Xbox One well we all know how badly they fucked that up despite the last few years really starting to turn everything around, and the Series consoles just sort of exist. The Xbox 360 however was great. I personally like the PS3 more but the 360 was THE console for that generation at least here in the States.
This isn't exactly new for Nintendo though. The N64 launched with 3 games total in Japan and really only had I think 7 in the States with I think 2 being 1st party. GameCube had 2 first party titles as well and if I remember correctly only had 3 games total again in Japan at launch. Switch launched with 3 1st party titles but it really just came down to BOTW as who gives the fuck about 1-2 Switch and Snipperclips.
I don't think it's weak at all having MKW at launch, but I would have preferred Zelda o 3D Mario tbh, yet I can see why they picked MKW and it definitely worked great for themI am (no worries got plenty to play), but still think having only one actual new experience to offer on launch day for your new console is pretty weak.
Even PS5, which got blasted here repeatedly for a weka set of launch games, had Miles Morales, DeS Remake, Sackboy, Astro's Playroom (free, btw), Bugsnax, Godfall
Is a new game. Not remake or remaster.
I didn't say MKW was bad, my complaint was having ONLY MKW. DK should've been a Day 1 title too.I don't think it's weak at all having MKW at launch, but I would have preferred Zelda o 3D Mario tbh, yet I can see why they picked MKW and it definitely worked great for them
Yeah, that what I told you, it's not that they don't have the games on time, they just preferred to spread them across all year. Another game than MKW would be great tho, but not DKB... Metroid Prime 4 would have been better since it has another tone and atmosphere, so they'd have something for two different audiences.I didn't say MKW was bad, my complaint was having ONLY MKW. DK should've been a Day 1 title too.
And again, I'm not sure why a 1P studi couldn't get a patch out for a 3 year old Kirby game for launch.
The crows are starting to look over their shoulders.20 million in the first year would be insane but if anyone can do it, it's Nintendo
I have to agree. I know its not the latest tech by any measure but the "feel" of it is top tier. Some tidbits:
- This device is absolutely elegant.
Yes, some places have it in stock without a reservation. Can you really go in and get one? Target is sold out for online.
Best buy says in store only and it is set to my local store at the top. Does that mean they have it?
I don't want to waste my time and go and find out they don't.
You think they put out 10M? So 75% of what they expect in the entire first year....available for launch day? That means they would anticipate anemic holiday sales...which doesn't make sense.
My guess is that they produced more like 5M. Which is still impressive for an initial wave.
I'm in the South Bay every unit within a 13 mile radius was sold out at around 2:00 PM yesterday.I went to go pick up my switch 2 pre order from Best Buy at lunch yesterday and they had non-bundle units available
The bundle was sold out though
This was West Hollywood fwiw and it did seem like this store got a ton of units so ymmv
My go Dino GameStop had 35 presale and 35 available for pickup on launch quite a lot actually for my location8-10 per store.
Nah, thats gamestop, I'm WalmartAre you the guy with the stapler?
Exactly how I picture Nintendo fans
Target is a bit misleading since theyre not allowing online pickup until sunday. Not everywhere

Oh the fuck I do, clair obscur released the same day they were in line at GameStop for the switch 2 preorder when I picked up my copy. It reeked of lonely middle aged menHey that's not fair...
...you don't know what they smell like!!
I agree. Received mine yesterday and it is a big step up from the OG model in terms of build quality and haptics. And even the screen is solid, for a non-OLED one.- This device is absolutely elegant.
Apparently my estimate is closer to the truth:I used a hypothetical. The exact number I used wasn't the point. The point is it's a HIGH number to begin with, so if there are high leftovers from an even HIGHER shipment amount, that doesn't mean it's "failure" or there's "disinterest".
If it's in Walloon, I'm not even sure they have internet thereI'm from Belgium. My Mediamarkt got 120 units in stock + 33 for preorders. Even today there were still available. I'm surprised. I guess they sell out in the weekend though.
Apparently my estimate is closer to the truth:
Seems like they hit a demand ceiling at 3M units.

I know someone known for their predictions who forecasted this…..GameStop reports a record number of purchases

I saw a stack of them at Costco myself. Zero interest in picking one up right now.
Yeah, you've made that prediction a dozen times now. This is getting to be a little pathetic.
Instead you are getting Nintendo fanboys trying to justify it because PS5 didn't have it when it launched 5 years ago + the standard GigaBowser nonsense.I'm actually kinda encouraged by this thread.
I half expected Nintendo fanboys to tell us that actually VRR kinda sucks and we're wrong for wanting it, and anyway VRR TVs are too expensive and not mainstream yet.
This is an absolutely wild way to spin the fact that it sold three times as much on launch day as the previous best-selling console.
We only know that the demand existed to move 3 million units, and absolutely nothing about whenever demand for the console has been satiated or not. All we can do otherwise is compare anecdotal evidence (consoles in stock at Retailer X vs. empty shelves and long lines at Retailer Y). If we want to know about its long-term sales trajectory, all we can do is wait for concrete data.
beened one day the fomo is coming the fomo is coming ahahaStock is available...it's not even a question whether demand has been satiated.
Core demand has been met imo. It's going to be tough to convince casuals and parents to shell out $450+ dollars when many quite literally "already have Mario Kart at home".beened one day the fomo is coming the fomo is coming ahaha
Damn... what an ugly generation.
Stock is available...it's not even a question whether demand has been satiated.
Do you have evidence that stock is widely available aside from the anecdotal "I saw a few at my local Walmart" accounts that I already addressed in my post? I've also seen people posting screenshots showing it out of stock in all of their local retailers, but that doesn't tell us anything either, because isolated regions tell us nothing about global demand.
Same, still plenty around me. I guess we received quite a lot.At least in Canada...stock seems to be still widely available.
It's possible Canada got a disportionate amount of supply relative to local demand I dunno.
