Uncharted: Golden Abyss |OT| Drake arrives at a smaller screen near you!

I really hate taking photos in a game if its not Fatal Frame. These photographs are so accurate at some times and then completely different in others.

I'm up to chapter 8.

The aiming has definitely irritated me at times, but I may finally have things at a point where I'm pretty comfortable. Turned off the gyro, and turned the sensitivity to the minimum. Is anyone truly able to aim without the gyro and the default sensitivity?

I'm enjoying myself, and I came in with realistic expectations. Graphically it's close to the first Uncharted, probably a notch below it, but with no screen tearing, thank god. Besides the aiming my only real complaint is the overuse of the Vita's features. Who the hell thought all of this was a good idea? I don't mind most of it, but anytime I have to swipe to counter a punch, or swipe to open a door, or swipe to give the girl a lift I can't help but roll my eyes. At the end of the day I'm just happy having more Uncharted to play.

I downloaded a patch for the game today, and it mentioned something about DLC. Does this game have any known DLC at this point?

The walking across the planks shit are the absolute WORST. Didn't they learn from the Sixaxis shit in Uncharted 1? Also, I'm finding the climbing in this game be to pretty unresponsive and frustrating especially compared to UC2/3.

Look at it from the other side of the spectrum. They're trying to give you a bit more interaction rather than Press X to counter a punch, Press X to open a door, Press X to give the girl a lift....

And if anything, it'll help prolong the life of the Vitas buttons really. =)

There's really no point in none of it is any fun.

Just started raking missing items. They're much harder to find than U2 and U3.

Can someone clarify how black market items exchange works? You have to be logged online or it also works when in standby a la streetpass, maybe via bluetooth?

The game looks gorgeous, but I'm really having a lot of trouble with the aiming. I guess I shouldn't have started on hard difficulty. Does clearing the game on easy unlock crushing?

Nope. Neither does Normal, unfortunately. You have to go trough Difficult first.

EDIT: protip: master the motion sensor aiming for small corrections.

so has anyone tried crushing yet?

up to chapter 31 in crushing, so I'm almost done, gyro aiming is so good it felt like cheating. lol. line up enemies so it approximately in the center of the screen, a quick aim and small gyro adjust and I got head shot a lot. I think my headshots count is already in the hundreds and this is just my 2nd playthrough.

the most annoying part so far is running from enemies scenario since you die in a few hits in crushing, I'm not sure how I pulled that off, lots of retry. and the othre one is when I have to protect AI teammate from incoming enemies using turret. there's a shit tons of enemies coming from left and right and have to kill them fast before they killed the AI teammate. I think there's a priority of which enemies I should kill first I'm not sure, but I also retry this section a lot.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. Looks like it was a wise decision to start on hard. Thanks.

I just got grenades. Is there seriously no traditional way to use them and you have to use touch drawing lines in the middle of battle every time? Because that's going to turn grenades from being super useful in U1-3 to being almost useless in GA. Can't they just use the rear-touchpad as an L2/R2 replacement?

Is it fun to keep tapping the circle button to open a door, or even holding a button so the AI character can climb over something like it happens ~ 20 times in Uncharted 2?

The point of these simplistic interactions is to keep you engaged in slower paced moments between gameplay sections. You can dismiss that as "not fun" but you will miss moments like these when you play a game like, say, Kane & Lynch 2, where you're literally walking from kill room to kill room.

Yeah no...
I really hate the plank tilting and "swipe in this direction" shit. At least let me use the edges of the screen, or the rear touch so I don't have to stretch my thumb over or take my hand off one side of the system.

Other than that, I really love this game. Very engrossed in the story and setting.

So what kind of environments do you play in?

I finished the game yesterday, it feels more like UC1 really. Jungles, caves, ruins that kind of stuff. Some of the later environments are absolutely amazing looking.

I think it looks better than UC1 personaly and the cutscenes are all real-time! Couple of framerate dips in certain big battles near the end but nothing too bad. I enjoyed the game more than I thought I would.

Chapter 4 man. Wow, that Vita pumping out some graphics.

The aiming feels a bit cumbersome, like Uncharted 1. The touch stuff goes overboard but some of its nice. If they could have held back on some of the touch stuff this game could have been amazing. As is, UCA is only kinda-a-amazing.

While the shooting might be clunky it works. I'm having a good time with this game. Maria Chase is a fine new partner to for Drake.

So ummm...is the only way to throw a grenade to draw a line at someone? Did you guys who finished it even use grenades in fights?

I still don'tunderstand how the near implementation of this game works. I bought this game with Amazon's B2G3 promo and I am so intested in how this implementation works.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Played the demo at Best Buy. Unbelievable!
Yeah, as did I. It certainly looked and felt like Uncharted which was good enough for me. If I wasn't so broke and unemployed, I'd treat myself to a Vita and this would definitely be my first game for it.

One complaint I had, and it wasn't so much the game, was that the buttons felt 'small'. Maybe it's because I got big hands, but I had trouble jumping and doing other actions. Strange since I haven't had this problem with my old PSP 1001.

I've got to agree with you. I genuinely like the variety GA offers, and I never gut everyone's beef with DF's sixaxis usage. I preferred using sixaxis to throw objects in UC2.

I'm pretty sure you can swipe anywhere on the screen as long as you get the direction right.

Is there no way to save the game at any time like in the console versions? Sometimes I'd like to browse for a bit mid-mission :)

Just finished the game. Vita purchase justified..... If Sony can hand me ten to twenty titles like this over the life of the system. Aiming took a little getting used to since the enemies are so small but adjusting the sensitivity as well as some practice took care of that. The only problem I had was with the QTE fights at the end..... there were way too many QTE's. However, that's just a minor quibble. Overall, this was far more fun then Uncharted 3.

Don't think so. I've been playing a chapter or so at a time and quitting when the next one comes up. I bet though you can probably just quit and it saves at a checkpoint.

Holy shit I tried that level a bunch of times today and haven't gotten past it yet. :(

Just diving into my Crushing run now. All of the other trophies are taken care of so I just need to focus on getting through these levels.
I know already that Chapter 11 is going to drive me insane. At least there's the option of playing through levels out of sequence so I can move on if I hit a wall and return later.

My copy arrived after I had a Vita for one day but no games (Amazon is mean :/). Off to the jungle!

Update: Wow, dat jaggies ARE rough. For some reason they feel more obvious/annoying than in Ghost of Sparta, which I played just yesterday. Maybe because in GoS the graphics are mostly a few jagged pixels stuck together for small details and you sort of gloss over it?

Aiming with gyro is very cool after I flipped them around. I have to remember using the right stick, right now I mostly aim with gyro. Got some headshots already.

I'm trying this game out now. I bought it earlier today but I'm scared at how bad I'll be. The only other console shooters I've played are Goldeneye, Halo 1/2, and a bunch of Wii shooters. This is my first dual analog shooter in what feels like a millennium. Easy difficulty 4 life.

Oh god I'm going to die so much asdwuodfciqewcuqerecwefdf!!!!!

the game felt like it was designed with gyro aiming in mind. if you insist on using just the analog stick, try to lower the sensitivity if you have problem aiming.

later level when you move to different area, the jaggies become less noticeable imo, the early jungle area is indeed rather rough (other than the holy shit water effect), probably the lighting or something.

I have 450+ headshots by the end of my 2nd playthrough. :)

LOL since there're some mixed review about this I was optimistically cautious about the game.

Now that I have played it, I'd say glad that I bought the game.

Level two and yeah, the jaggies are better already. Or I'm accustomed to them more. They are only really jarring on the small character models. Dante's pants :/ And yeah, the water is something else. The fire (RPG explosion is my only impression) not so much.

BUT: I'm playing Uncharted on a handheld! I'm rubbing skulls and shit! This is oooooooooff the hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooks!

They have to port everything and everyone on Vita. This thing is amazing. UC1 port/remake has to be possible!

How many chapters are there in total?
There's a prologue plus
34
chapters. A couple of the chapters are just
cutscenes with a couple of "puzzles" during the breaks.

That's nuts, I've been trying!
Everyone says you can though, I'll try again and take back what I said if so.
You can because I have. In fact you don't even need to swipe as long as the arrow. My swipes are in the bottom right of the screen so I don't have to move my hand and they're about 1 inch.

Does this game have any of that atmosphere and adventure that made part one so great?

I don't mind the actiony stuff, but I want that feeling of being lost in another part of the world. UC1, I felt like I could trip on all the foliage, UC2 I felt I could really get frostbite when I stepped in a stream inside the ice caves but I was never in one spot enough to fully get a similar feeling in UC3.

Anything that stands out or is it just well done launch title?
