Unreal Redux [Unreal 25th Anniversary Trailer]

Beautiful game. I like to launch it every now and then with dx10 mod that give it back the original skyboxes like on voodoo card.

I really liked that game. Remember the cover of next gen with something like "yes, it looks this good" or something and it looks like ass now days. Obviously hindsight and all that but it's funny to look back on.

A real shame that Epic doesn't put a bit of those billions from Fortnite, to do a proper remaster of the game that started the success of their company.
Or make a new unreal single player game, unreal tournament reboot. Its a shame really. Unreal tournament 99' and 2004 were my all time favorite fps multiplayer arena games, even over quake 3.
don't know why they can't make new games.

What mod is this? I tried playing original unreal a few times on geforce cards and its never been like i remember on my voodoo3 and voodoo5 cards. Those old unreal 1 games shined on the glide api. Ran seamless, fast and had a different feeling, I can't really explain.

If Epic's head wasn't so far up Fortnite's arse, they should have released a remake in UE5.

Dreaming of an R6: Raven Shield UE5 version as well, on a side note.

This is exciting, Unreal is one of my favorite fps games of all time. That feeling when you first exit the vortex rikers into na pali and dusk horizon begins playing...

Played Unreal multiple times and it's excellent on the whole. The campaign with it's vibrant tropical locations and equally grim industrial areas are absolutely unforgettable, though it does drag on a little in my opinion. My favourite levels are the 'Chizra Water Temple' which makes you feel like Indiana Jones as you're passing through, 'The Dark Arena' where you face off against a humungous foe and 'Serpent Canyon' which is a cinematic boat ride that kind of did scripted events prior to Half-Life, though it's only a small level. The multiplayer for Unreal however is terrible and the maps mostly lacklustre.

I'm a big fan of Bluff Eversmoking myself. That map just oozes atmosphere like no other. Can't wait to see how it'll look in Unreal Redux.

This was unreal for 1998 standards (pun intended).
Still waiting for Unreal Tournament 3 X that was supposed to release a couple of months ago.
Yeah I'm waiting too. Currently have Unreal Tournament 3 installed as it's my second favourite in the entire series (Was doing achievements, but burned out after the 100 match types). I absolutely loved the metallic and industrial aesthetic in the human environments in contrast to the Arabian and alien ones on the Necris homeworld. Many people complained upon release that it resembled Gears of War too much, but honestly who cares? Game looks and plays absolutely fantastic. Even though some may be annoyed that this title was chosen in particular for some love, I would rather take it than having the entire franchise lay dormant whilst Fortnite thrives!

The problem with that level is the confusing layout and the objectives to progress through the map are incredibly obscure. It's supposed to be a monastery within the Unreal lore which explains the remoteness of the location and it looks beautiful surrounded by those emerald waters.

The problem with that level is that it's confusing to navigate and know what you're suppose to do next. Looks beautiful though, as do most environments in Unreal.

Not that confusing really, yeah it's big but you also have landmarks such as the big belltower. Now something like the Sunspire or ISV-Kran decks are quite confusing with their endless corridors.

Bluff Eversmoking involves the player exploring the main buildings, then the catacombs, back to the belltower and then towards the lighthouse structure on the bottom of the island. Personally I'm not a big fan of playing that level, though like you said the ISV-Kran ship is a mess and the Sunspire has all the annoying enemies bundled into a single level.

Thanks. Got it working, also looks like had a dx11 driver on there as well. Don't know which would be better.
I set dx10 and changed some settings, looks amazing.
Only issue I have is the menu screen has seams like its one grid. i know the glide didn't have this, and I think dx did back in the day too.
Also the intro movie starts up a bit choppy. For my rig, thats kinda crazy, but probably in the code.

One thing i notice re-playing old 3d games, there is something myterious about them. I don't know what it is, but i find the lighting and reflections, and details just are so different than today. I am glad we can still play old games.

Just remake the damn thing on the new Unreal Engine, it's in the name, it's the game that started it, like it's begging to be remade on it

Looking pretty good, although I think only a full remake on UE3 or UE4 would actually make me want to replay it. I know I may get a lot of shit for this but I never was a very huge Unreal fan. I mean, it's still a classic but I remember so many of its levels were really difficult to navigate and I spent hours trying to figure out what to do on some of them. Maybe because I was still just a dumb kid when I last played it but I remember only finishing it once and never wanting to do it again. I spent way more time playing Unreal Tournament because it was simply more fun.

Unsuprising as the original Unreal had an extremely long and convoluted campaign. It was almost essential to play in cooperative mode as it was that much more fun and enjoyable. Some of the earlier levels can be confusing to navigate and the tough enemy AI doesn't help either. I truly believe that it was the Dark Souls of FPS games, in that you had tremendous adversity, but a great sense of satisfaction after you limped through to the next level.

I would actually prefer a working OldSkool mod. Something that allows the original Unreal to be played in UT99. I loved the UT weapons in Unreal a lot more.

I really loved the original Unreal. It felt like such an adventure with the huge levels and interesting setting. Too bad we'll never see a proper sequel to the first game (Unreal 2 was a huge disappointment) as Epic would never recoup their investment, especially compared to Fortnite and that engine money.

I loved Unreal and it got me into gaming. Take my money if they did a proper remake/remaster. But as others commented, I doubt it with Fortnite and UE money.

It's been a long time but I think this may be the first PC game I played. Riva TNT2 those were the days.

The first time I played this game, was at a friends house, with the first Riva TNT.
A year later I bought my first PC, with a TNT2 Ultra on it. And Unreal was one of the very first games I played on it.
To think this was 25 years ago....
