That's why I find it weird, though. What made this particular game worthy of instant localization announcement and a Steam port when we're still waiting for word on HMD and Coven (also Vita exclusives) after a year?
I mean, they're all RPGs. I accept WL5M may have slightly less text, but I also feel like it has significantly less selling potential than the other games.
nisa's been shifting how they do game announcements over the course of the last year. with anime and games they used to announce things long in advance of putting them up for preorder or announcing release timing. disgaea 5 for instance was announced for a localization in 2014, and only given a trailer/final name and logo a couple months later at their press event for some reason. and then preorders didn't even go up until several months after that.
birthdays, touhou genso wanderer, and the longest five minutes were announced like this as well, where the revelation of the publisher was known ahead of any other information. starting with danganronpa reload, they started announcing all the information upfront. v3 was on their store later that day and the 2017 date was shown off immediately. even their slate of announcements in november had this treatment.
i think part of it might have been due to steam - if there are only one or two companies handling ports, and they're planning to put many games up on steam, it might back things up. so perhaps the plan was for the longest five minutes to come out in early 2017, but the pipeline was filled with more pressing matters and now it's on the backburner. that's actually all speculation on my part though. i don't really have any insight into how steam functions - just that basically all the games they're doing for it weren't made with steam in mind so there is probably some extra programming required for each one.
as for coven, i think it could have fallen into the same category (a steam version is probably in the cards seeing how stranger of sword city did there) - or perhaps it was sidelined a bit while v3 showed up, and work will resume later. coven was successful in japan so i don't think there's an issue with that one being localized. regarding hero must die - i don't know. that one is a weird one to me. i like the concept a lot but never played it very much. it seemed like it could get a bit repetitive so maybe that's why? or maybe there were simply way too many things and something had to give.
