Upcoming Vita Games (~200+ Upcoming games in ENGLISH) || 2017 Edition ||

For anyone interested, my review of it is here:

https://kresnik258gaming.wordpress.com/2016/06/21/vita-deemo-the-last-recital-import-review/

It's alright. Bit grindy.

Now that NISA's 3DS game got leaked (RPG Maker Fes), I'm kinda hoping their other games follow suit.

Where did it get leaked? That's... an interesting choice. Also makes sense, Kadokawa, surprised I didn't think of that.

I was reluctant to import the Asian version because of DLC, so I was looking forward to NA Deemo, but I'm not that interested anymore.

Also, with the RPG Maker title being localized by NISA, I'm sure they'll announce Demon Gaze II at the conference as well.

Wew no DG 2 at the event acc to AniHawk.

Also I guess ill keep deemo asia limited edition sealed now and just play the NA version for review/ buy it. whichever happens first. lol.

if it's happening, it's not being announced there.

Sometimes I wish you'd just let us speculate in peaceful ignorance rather than telling us just enough to drop our expectations but not enough to get us excited :(

Well, if it's not Demon Gaze 2, I suppose that makes sense. They'll want to port 1 & 2 to PC and seeing how it's taken them nearly 2 years to do Operation Abyss & Babel, I guess it won't be any time soon.

nisa is publishing more games than ever in 2017. i mean, their release schedule looks like something a first party would have from the sheer quantity.

not sure if they're ever going to announce anything at their anime expo panel again, but it seems like it would be a better place than to randomly drop announcements somewhere in the middle of the year. would be nice to have the early 2018 stuff clarified by then.

Oh, no doubt they're doing amazing work this year, and I'm really excited about a fair bit of stuff (DanganRonpa; God Wars; Operation Babel). I just feel it's weird some of the choices they've made - World's Longest Five Minutes was a weird pickup (as was Birthdays: The Beginning imo); I'm not convinced their PS4 DanganRonpa porting is going to be worth the investment (series got its break on Vita; reached wider audience on Steam, what's left for PS4?) and their Touhou focus seems misguided judging by the complete lack of excitement I saw for Bullet Ballet.

Maybe I'm just bitter about Hero Must Die :p. I'm still very happy with the majority of the stuff they're doing.

I'm basically buying dangan relpad on ps4 for the cover art. Already own multiple copies on vita of both games. I think 4 each now and own em on steam. This way I don't need to.import JP vita for cover art lol.

hey man you can't deny it was a masterstroke to trample on lrg's feet and exploit the vast audience of ps4 vn fans with the silver case

First Vita footage of Accel World vs. SAO:

So, to look at the positives, it doesn't seem to be the framerate disaster that Hollow Realization was out of the gate (although it's not stable).

On the downside, it's certainly taken a graphical hit.

I had put my faith in Artdink, seems that was a little misplaced.

NISA single-handedly making sure the PS4 userbase WILL buy VN's, even if they aren't interested -_-

Well the character and enemy models are decent at least..... That's a shame about everything else though.

It hasn't been announced yet, but it's popped up at enough retailers and been hinted at in general that it's pretty much a lock. No details on release date as a result, though.

I've heard it's very good, one of the best entries in the Science Adventure series. It uses the events of Chaos;Head as a backdrop, but I think (or at least I'd hope!) that it explains everything you'd need to know. It has a different cast of characters who wouldn't have known the specifics of what happened in Chaos;Head, after all. I can't promise that it won't casually spoil C;H, though.

Oh yeah, it's after Chaos;Head, but I don't recall that coming out for Vita. Do you know if there's an English translation maybe on PC for C;H?

There is a fan translation available on PC, yes. The console versions (which released as Chaos;Head Noah) have additional story routes which have never been translated, but the main route is all you'd really need going into Chaos;Child.

Oh, and don't even think about watching the anime. It's terrible.

The new EU PSN Sale has many Musou games on sale, like the Samurai Warriors. I have 4-2 as an english asian retail release and I'm interested in SW4 Empires. Can I skip 4 Vanilla if I have the other two or is Vanilla still worth it?

And somehow I always forget that WARRIORS OROCHI 3 Ultimate got a Vita port aswell. Is it solid?

RPG Maker is confirmed and coming pretty soon. What could others be? My money is on Witch 2 and Princess is Money Hungry, with latter receiving a Steam port. Maybe Coven or Punchline too, but I'm drawing blank for a fifth title.

what about no to all of them and try again from scratch.

i would really like to see hero must die too. maybe in another timeline.

and maybe i'm biased, but i think dr on ps4 was a good investment - they can only grow the fanbase from here and it's just good marketing in front of v3's launch to have the series appear more regularly without needing to actually spend marketing dollars on v3 itself until closer to release. the name should be in people's heads for a lot of the year, especially ps4 fans, as ps vita fans are already well-aware of it.

longest five minutes is an nis title. those are going to be difficult to ignore for localization unless they're kind of weird ones like shin hayarigami or exclusively on platforms that don't make sense anymore in the west.

i don't think anyone knew what was going on with the silver case.

I think Dangan on PS4 is a good investment for DR 1+2. Not another episode. They shouldve done all 3 for 60$. DR AE is gonna get rekt (only 2$ sales will save it kek).

Ok I drew up a wishlist of physical Vita (unless marked) games I want to get (don't know if I'll get them all!) - any here that I should strictly avoid and save my cash?

MGS HD
Terraria
Minecraft
Sonic All Star Racing Transformed
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
DOAX
Wipeout 2048
Ridge Racer (PSN Ultimate version)
Root Letter
Chaos;Child
Super Monkey Ball
Dragon Quest Builders
FFX and FFX 2
Lumines
DJ Max Technica Tune
Hatsune Miku Project Diva X
Trails of Cold Steel 1
Trails of Cold Steel 2
Atelier Shallie Plus
God Wars
Dynasty Warriors 8 XL
Ys Memories of Celceta
Odin Sphere
World of Final Fantasy
Rayman Legends/Origins
Muramasa: Rebirth
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3

These are the physical games I have currently (as well as some digitally) -

Demon Gaze
Dragon's Crown
Dungeon Travelers 2
Everybody's Golf
Grand Kingdom
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines
Persona 4
Steins;Gate
Steins;Gate 0
Stranger of Sword City
Virtue's Last Reward

I'm also looking for games for my kids. I hope they'll be able to play from 3 onwards. They're 1 and 3 at the moment. What games would suit them? I found it quite a challenge on the Vita. It's much easier on the 3DS to find suitable games for them. I guess they could play Super Monkey Ball, Lumines, Sonic Racing, though they all seem kinda hard for them.

None of the Lego (insert movie) games because they haven't watched any of the movies yet.

I'll look into Chaos;Head.

That's why I find it weird, though. What made this particular game worthy of instant localization announcement and a Steam port when we're still waiting for word on HMD and Coven (also Vita exclusives) after a year?

I mean, they're all RPGs. I accept WL5M may have slightly less text, but I also feel like it has significantly less selling potential than the other games.

Bolded are the games I'd personally recommend from having played them. I'll just throw in my thoughts on a controversial pick in there - I really like Ridge Racer on Vita. Don't get me wrong, it lacks LOADS of content, but the DLC packs make it worth playing and the core gameplay is classic drifting Ridge Racer.

Kids games - try LittleBigPlanet; Ratchet Trilogy; Sly Cooper Trilogy; Tearaway etc. The LEGO games are the best recommendations though, even if you haven't seen the films they're great but with them they're even better. Maybe try one of the non-film-based LEGO games like Shadow of Ronin or something?

nisa's been shifting how they do game announcements over the course of the last year. with anime and games they used to announce things long in advance of putting them up for preorder or announcing release timing. disgaea 5 for instance was announced for a localization in 2014, and only given a trailer/final name and logo a couple months later at their press event for some reason. and then preorders didn't even go up until several months after that.

birthdays, touhou genso wanderer, and the longest five minutes were announced like this as well, where the revelation of the publisher was known ahead of any other information. starting with danganronpa reload, they started announcing all the information upfront. v3 was on their store later that day and the 2017 date was shown off immediately. even their slate of announcements in november had this treatment.

i think part of it might have been due to steam - if there are only one or two companies handling ports, and they're planning to put many games up on steam, it might back things up. so perhaps the plan was for the longest five minutes to come out in early 2017, but the pipeline was filled with more pressing matters and now it's on the backburner. that's actually all speculation on my part though. i don't really have any insight into how steam functions - just that basically all the games they're doing for it weren't made with steam in mind so there is probably some extra programming required for each one.

as for coven, i think it could have fallen into the same category (a steam version is probably in the cards seeing how stranger of sword city did there) - or perhaps it was sidelined a bit while v3 showed up, and work will resume later. coven was successful in japan so i don't think there's an issue with that one being localized. regarding hero must die - i don't know. that one is a weird one to me. i like the concept a lot but never played it very much. it seemed like it could get a bit repetitive so maybe that's why? or maybe there were simply way too many things and something had to give.

Cool thanks for the recommendations!

Yeah I read all the bad reviews for ridge racer but I kinda want to see just how bad it is. It's got 9 tracks with the ultimate version I think but even then it pales in comparison to the PSP versions and 6 and 7. It's something I'll have to think about, I definitely won't get the physical though.

I thought about all those kids games you mentioned but I didn't like what I played of them. Guess I'm just old and bitter. I have Tearaway digitally but I didn't like it. It'd be nice to have a Lego game like on the 3DS where there's no movie tie in like Lego City Undercover which I want to get. If I have to pick a Lego game it'll probably be Lego Marvel Avengers or Batman.

I'd assume Steam ports are on the cards for every single release of theirs going forward really. I mean, I'd assume this'll happen for any Japanese localization on any console really (even PS4 exclusives are going over to PC in droves).

So yeah, I can imagine it may be an issue of capacity if they are doing everything and that may have held things up. But at the same time, we're seeing companies like IFI just plow forward with localizations and do the Steam porting later as/when they have the capacity for it.

Damascus Gear is being ported to PS4/PC, but apparently a new game in the series is being developed for Vita too.

I really liked Damascu Gear... until an escort mission where the escorted ones have an EXTREMELY bad AI, i still have it installed because i hope someday to beat the mission and finish the game.

I really liked it too, definitely hit my loot sweet spot and the mech weapons felt suitably heavy.

Today's EU PSN sale- Darius Burst is my pick from it. Awesome shmup, loads of content and really nice presentation. £12 down from £33, definitely worth a go.
