UPS and FedEx are the worst

Ordered a bunch of stuff that needed to be here for Christmas. Mostly food, so it needed to be here at a specific time. Mandatory overnight shipping fees, etc.

Every single package is missing or delayed. One of them shows as being located 2 miles from my home for the past 2 days with no explanation as to why it's not moving. By now it's almost certainly gone bad. Talked to the customer service depts of the places I ordered from and they say it's too late to ship replacements.

Thanks, jerks. I guess it's gonna be a Chinese take out food kind of Christmas this year.

First of all.

Not disagreeing with you cause I absolutely hate UPS, they do not fit with the common working Swede who's ALWAYS at work when they arrive with a package they expect to just dump at the fucking door. There are package stations at post offices, dump them there for me to pick up when I quit work!

Secondly.

Care to give some background to the whole online food ordering?

I hate that UPS expects you to be there between 11 and 1 but refuses to leave it with a neighbor or accept a signed form saying I'm okay if you just abandon the package in my entryway.

This is why I don't order things the week leading up to Christmas. Live and learn.

I ordered them on the 14th for delivery on the 21st. I didn't want to get them delivered earlier because of limited room in the fridge and I'm not sure how long some of it will keep for, even in the fridge. Lesson learned, never again.

Omaha Steaks or Lou Malnati's?

Allen Brothers.

Mail order butchers have been a thing in America forever. You used to get a catalog in the mail and order what you wanted over the phone. Now you just do it via a website.

Ordered what?

Also, they sent them via two different carriers?

That's a shame, you did it right, just unlucky.

Is the food you ordered some kind of specialty product that you can't get from the local grocery stores? Can you not go to the store and maybe get ingredients to prepare another Christmas meal? Why resort to getting Chinese take out?
Not that I'm complaining about that. Probably gonna get some take out myself.

FedEx and UPS aren't great, I'll give you that. Keep in mind that they're probably extremely overworked and understaffed at this time of year. My job is and this is after hiring a shitload of people specifically for the holidays. Most of them have quit/gotten fired already.

*spoiler alert*
No they aren't, you just chose poorly in your timing.
Sucks that your fridge was full, but this was just handled badly all around because something can always happen during the holidays with mail.
Bad weather or just understaffed

The only time I have ever had a problem with UPS or FedEx was back in like 1996 or 1997 when UPS has a strike and a gateway computer I ordered was delayed a couple of days being delivered because of it. Other than that one issue, I get my stuff the day I'm supposed to get it and I've never had anything lost.

Didn't we just get hit with a nasty cold front that screwed up transportation around the country?

Also, as a previous UPS worker in the main Philly Hub, it's shocking that most deliveries actually make it on time during the holiday season. You've got 3 people sorting stacked boxes on a conveyor belt that you shouldn't stop into 12 trucks. The flow is so quick that if you do stop the belt, you'll jam the belt up because the guys up the belt doing the previous sort won't stop. So then you just have this massive pile of boxes and you end up making it worse on yourself.

Two separate orders from two different businesses.

A rib roast from one place and a sampler (bacon, sausage, butter, etc) from another.

Maybe, it depends on what's left over on Saturday.

Right...but you still have three days till Christmas to go to a store and buy these.

you live in LA according to your profile, I think you should be able to find a rib roast and appetizers.

I live in the Chicago suburbs, and every day when I show up for work there are about 20 UPS trucks in the packing lot and about 5-6 U-Haul trucks with UPS works moving things from U-Haul trucks to UPS trucks.

They literally don't have enough trucks. I've been getting packages delivered at like 8 and 9 o'clock at night. I'm willing to cut them a break. I can't imagine their job is easy right now.

That's funny, I was just talking to my coworkers about how UPS just leaves stuff at our doors at night without even knocking so you don't find it till the next day. They both had things go missing. I also have had this experience with UPS either leaving boxes at my door without knocking or even delivering it to the wrong person but reporting it as delivered to me, but my neighbors aren't thieves so it's worked out for me.

As someone who has worked extensively in some of these warehouses, i'm surprised anything finds it's way to peoples doorstep.

And if it does, I'm surprised people somehow get stuff undamaged.

Yeah UPS IS pretty bad, atleast over here. Always delivering later than expected, stupid "not home" policies, bad customer support.

Same, every day this week and a few last week (UPS and USPS). They delivered the numerous gifts I purchased for friends around the nation this week no problem. I usually give the USPS shit because they're terrible in my area, but even they have come through this year.

No, I have Saturday.

In the grand scheme of life it's insignificant but in the here and now holy crap it's annoying. I understand that shippers mess up sometimes but this was a first and it got to me.

Using anything mail order near Christmas and not having a contingency plan usually results in disappointment. Lesson learned.

They're not bad at all.

People, like you, tend to expect everything to go perfect. They're delivering packages. There are many variables that can come into play.

The grass is always greener. 10 years ago, I was complaining that UPS just left my package in the hallway and my crackhead neighbor stole it. I wonder if he was able to get any money out of an Action Replay for the Saturn.

Is there no store nearby that stocks, you know, food?

It's cold outside.

Better quality food depending where the OP lives.

Christmas Dinner is a big time to entertain with some of the best food you buy.

Not everyone has access to high quality butchers, so online offers a great option.

You can buy Trump Steaks from The Sharper Image.

Did you wait till the last minute to order if so there is your problem.

Did you read his OP? There's your problem. His stuff is missing or delayed. That is on the shipping company.

But it is Xmas, and that's just how it goes. I have the opposite opinion. Ordered 2 things just the other day with expected delivery of Friday. They both were delivered today. Awesome!

Hmmmm, yeah that does suck but that's more because it's the holidays and mistakes happen. At least you still got time to head to the grocery and grab a rib roast. It might not be prime rib but it's better than nothing.

I didn't know ordering meat through the mail was a thing. Must be an american thing I guess ?

Well as I was curious I checked the allen brothers website and holy fucking shit at those prices. 400$ for 8 rib eyes (22oz each) that's like 50$ per piece of meat. I bet you would pay close to that price (maybe a bit more) at a good steakhouse for the same piece of meat.

What's so special about their meat that they can charge such crazy prices ?
