UPS and FedEx are the worst

I didn't know ordering meat through the mail was a thing. Must be an american thing I guess ?

Well as I was curious I checked the allen brothers website and holy fucking shit at those prices. 400$ for 8 rib eyes (22oz each) that's like 50$ per piece of meat. I bet you would pay close to that price (maybe a bit more) at a good steakhouse for the same piece of meat.

What's so special about their meat that they can charge such crazy prices ?

Nothing really. My grandmother used to get everyone Omaha Steaks for Christmas, but it was no better than the local butcher and about 5 times the cost to her.

I love your avatar and this question.

The expensive because they're probably USDA Prime, which is the highest grade meat you can buy.

Because people can't be bothered to go to Costco, or you know, the local supermarket either.

I ordered Christmas gifts through best buy on Tuesday and UPS delivered it a day early 😊

Ordering the week or week before Christmas is a really bad idea

It seems like FedEx has been shitting the bed badly this holiday. All kinds of issues, even customer service is in no fucks given mode. Tracking has been utterly useless for weeks.

Can we also complain about Amazon's delivery service? I've had a few packages that I thought were stolen because they were marked as delivered only to be tossed at the entrance to my building around 10:30 at night.

all private couriers are terrible.

I am so happy when Bestbuy or Amazon chooses Canada Post

I get real salty when Bestbuy or Amazon chooses FedEx/UPS

I don't have the option many tmes, they just pick the one they feel like when I select ''normal''

Why have you not called UPS or FedEx about the status of the package??

I did learn something recently in the quest to pick up a package sent by my secret santa on here. If the shipment allows for 3 delivery attempts, then a note will be left on the door with an attempt at a redeliver or you can call to pick it up at night at the distribution center. 99% of packages are sent this way. If the shipment allows for one delivery attempt, the package will the be delivered to a "UPS Access Point" and will be held for five days before being returned to sender. The Access Point will sign for it, and it will show in the tracking that it is there. When you pick it up, you will then sign for it to show that it was retrieved. Access Points are NOT UPS stores or distribution centers. Most are liquor stores or convenience stores or any little shop that wants to participate in it. These access points are supposed to be closer to you than distribution centers. Now if you have a UPS account, you can log in and change when/where you want your package to go to. So if you know you're not home during the day, you can have it stay at the distribution center or you can have it go on to an access point.

I guess I am lucky. I ordered 10 packages this week using both services, and all of them have been on time so far (even 2 day).

Also I've been an Amazon customer since 2003 (Prime member for several years), and I currently average around 150 orders a year just from Amazon. I would say a total of three or four times I've had a package arrive late, and only once was it lost. I have to give all the services some credit for that. That is like a 99%+ success rate on over a 1,000 orders.

I wonder if location has something do with it (I've been in Knoxville, TN for since 2004).

Poor grandma :( Well you can't blame her for wanting to spoil her family but yeah I don't think it's worth the price.

I wonder how they grade the meat. I need to do some reading about that.

Yeah but they don't sell 200$ 2lbs roasts !

UPS can be shady as fuck. I had a package come in and they sent it to the UPS pick up location. Seems manageable, right? Just pick it up after work or whatever. The fucking pick up location is at a shitty ass ghetto corner store. Who the fuck thought that was a great place to pick up prackages? A fucking corner store with a bunch off brand shit. My package looked like it was physically beaten. Thank god it was just clothes.

FedEX is much better when you just ship it to a FedEX store. I purchased an instrument on eBay and just had it sent to a 24 hour FedEx store. Quick and easy process.

My iPhone was sent to a place like this. A month later the store was gone. I feel like I'm lucky to have gotten it.

Not trying to be snarky but this IS the busiest time of the year for them. I can't even begin to imagine what the holidays are like for shipping services. Cut them some slack, they are inundated with shipments this time of year.

Yea UPS sucks ass. Last week they lost a very important, unique gift I bought for Christmas that I cant get another of. They put it down as damaged, then in the description said it was missing completely. Fuck them.

I probably personally handle 100 FedEx/UPS shipments a day. Even during the holidays, close to 99% of packages deliver on-time.

Only difference I have noticed is they didn't call, like they usually do, about a damaged package.

If I had a dollar for every time I wait all day for my package, check the tracking number and see "attempted delivery, recipient not home" when I've been sitting 10 feet from the door all day, I would have like, a lot of dollars.

Just be honest and say "driver too busy/didn't feel like stopping", you lying ass motherfuckers

FedEx and UPS are swamped. You wouldnt believe how many packages are travelling through those facilities each day right now. Even if they had a 99% service level, you are talking about more than a quarter million packages that wouldnt get delivered on time. As someone who worked for FedEx for a decade, i can tell you that a 99% service level just isnt possible.

Wow, that must be so frustrating to witness.

I understand that stuff happens and they can't always deliver stuff. But it does annoy me when I pay extra for a certain delivery service that they then fail to supply. Like, I'm sure there are plenty of things that they're unable to supply that they, therefore, don't sell. They can't promise to make it sunny so they don't sell that. If they can't actually deliver it next day, just don't offer that service.

It must be tough being a UPS/FedEx/USPS/DHL worker during Christmas (or other winter holiday) time.

I've can only speak from experience re: USPS, but it's been relentless since Thanksgiving. 60+ hour weeks, gigantic parcels, working well after sunset (whether because you were overloaded, or because someone else was and needed help), snow and rain and slush and mud...

There's only so much that can be done to keep up, under the circumstances.

Sorry, have to disagree. The absolute worst are these bullshit hybrid systems where either UPS or FedEx does the front end shipping only to hand it off to the USPS for the back end delivery. Things like UPS Mail Innovations, UPS Surepost, or FedEx SmartPost.

Not only do they frequently add 1-2 days of transit time because of the idiotic transition to the USPS, it makes it difficult to file any insurance claims or file any missing package claims because tracking and accountability is all over the place.

Every time a company uses one of these when shipping to me, I want to scream because both UPS and FedEx have to literally drive directly by my house to go another 2 miles east to get to the post office to 'deliver' the package to USPS for final delivery.

When I lived in Brooklyn that happened to me so often.

Fun fact. FedEx actually ships quite a bit of Canada Post that moves express.

They do the same for priority and express mail for the USPS.

Dont drive on the highway during rush hour if you are in a hurry... similarly dont do anything Christmas related last minute when everyone and their mom is doing the exact same thing

Getting quality meats from mail is amazing.

I frequently get this

http://peterluger.com/butcher-shop/peter-luger-steak-meat-package-e.html (with some super thick bacon)

for small dinner parties (feeds about 4-6) and this

http://peterluger.com/butcher-shop/peter-luger-steak-meat-package-d.html (Also with some super thick bacon) for special events. (Feed about 16-20)

Its a little more expensive than the typical dry aged prime steak (30 a pound vs 40 a pound) but the quality is much better.

Plus the bacon is amazing.

Thought this was going to be a PeteyKirtch thread.

OP, just go to a store and buy food. I know it will be terrible, having to interact with people and what not but I am sure you will survive.

Never order anything less than 2 weeks prior to Xmas. It's always a gigantic clusterfuck.

That said, I ordered stuff this year super late (this Monday) and received them today, so that's certainly a first.

I tipped the two UPS guys at my door a couple week ago.

At least FedEx and UPS do three delivery attempts unlike the USPS's one attempt, which is just awesome in this season.

Sorry about your luck OP. You should get some compensation for it though.

Sorry you had bad luck.

They're pretty good in my area and I've only had 1 package tampered with out of probably a 1000 at this point.

The only thing that bugs me about them is they throw packages. They don't set them down, they throw them or drop them. I've caught the guy doing this a couple of times now. Luckily I haven't ordered any electronics lately.

First time something like this has happened for me too. I ordered some shoes last week on Saturday and it said it would come this Friday. I was like cool perfect until I check tracking on Tuesday and it said it got delayed. Shit happens so I just shrugged it off until notice the tracking was all over the place. One minute it was in Rhode Island 20 minutes later in it's New Jersey then another ~20 minutes later it says it's departed from Rhode Island lol

Been stuck on that since Tuesday

Being Canadian, I loathe receiving international packages via UPS, Fedex, and DHL because of the mandatory duty fees and taxes they impose. Just recently ordered a Blu-ray from Amazon UK and it was shipped via DHL for some reason; end result was being charged fees that almost equalled to the most of the item itself.

I will be avoiding Amazon UK now; thank you DHL.

what's funny is the two things i ordered recently, one arrived in 2 days when it was 3-5 day shipping and the other got delivered on Saturday when it didn't even have Saturday delivery. almost like they need to just deliver everything as fast as possible and don't want to artificially delay shipping like they usually do... nothing like seeing a package sit in a warehouse for a day or two just so it doesn't arrive in 1-2 days instead of 3-5 year round except these magical two weeks where everything must go.

I feel like everyone thinks some shipping company is the worst, so in aggregate, all shipping companies suck. I actually find they're pretty reliable.

Because people can't be bothered to go to Costco, or you know, the local supermarket either.

I wouldn't want to set foot in a Costco during the holidays or even the weekends. All the Costcos around here are mad houses during those times. It's impossible to find parking, and then there's huge lines inside. This is true of the six Costcos that I have access to. My wife goes and just dreads it during the holidays.

I had two packages lost this holiday season from Amazon. I can't remember a time this has happened in years. The shipping industry seems to be bulging at the seams this season.
