Interesting. I've always disliked the unreasonable hate at people that identify as socialists or how socialist has been used as an ad hominem to people who don't even identify as such. It and "communist" was the original "nazi" in its times.
I would be careful about speaking about Scandinavian social democracy too easily, as it has for a long time become more right-wing and focused on privatization. At least Norway. Pensions are dooming new generations to work to make up for the excesses of our parents generation. Social services are getting tougher and tougher. Our healthcare system is also facing challenges. So I wouldn't be too enthusiastic imagining it as something that would ultimately succeed in the US.
