So I guess you HAVE to file taxes to get it from what I heard on radio last night? Not even $600 for those who haven't?

How are they able to dish out that much cash? 270+ million taxpayers times a $1000?

Where are you getting 270M taxpayers? There's no way it's that high. More in the 170-210M range imo. You have to account for those who don't pay taxes (i.e. many/most illegal immigrants) as well as every child under 18 and many under 25 who many times work "off the book" jobs while they finish school.

Children of taxpayers were going to get 500 bux each though.

Also a lot of people who don't make much money do not file so there is that.

Anyways it apoears the bill didn't pass anyways and right now nobody is getting anything.

It is for individuals, and married looks like it is just double the limits.

How are they going to determine married status? Are they going to actively look at your current marital status in federal/state systems (I just got married in January 2020), or look at your tax filing status for 2018 (which was single - I haven't filed my 2019 taxes yet)?

Presumably tax status, but it is going to be the same amount going to you unless your spouse quite their >$75,000 per year job when you got married.

Even if you make a pittance working part-time or w.e you should always file. It's pretty easy and since you're going straight for the standardized deduction you don't need to waste any time trying to claim random expenses.

Last year I was a full-time student but worked as a landscaper over the summer making a little over 4 grand. I got all my federal and state taxes back!

Thanks for tanking the bill, Democrats.
Tbh the bill was unrealistic from what I knew about.

I'm completely in support of helping people out who need. But this bill was just giving money to almost everyone.

We need to be sure to give it to those most in need right now.

Unrealistic according to whose standards?
Well it didn't pass so....

Like I said above, I'm not against it. I'm for it but it seemed a bit much. People making 74k a year and still employed/staying employed should not be getting it, for example.

It's not perfect but it's the fastest way to get money out to heads of households who file a tax return to A) collect the EITC and/or B) claim a child care credit. There seems to be an implication that tax filers are some wealthy group who don't need it the vast majority are going to need it.

Now some people who make a good amount of money will also receive a check. It's a good thing it phases out after a certain income level. But it's also the fastest way to do that.

The IRS already has your address and bank account info if you filed 2019 or 2018 year taxes. And just because you filed taxes in 2018 or 2019, doesn't mean you are still employed now.

Maybe.

People on SNAP or TANF, unemployment, SSI/SSDI should be getting even if they didn't file. These are people hurting the most but of course anyone under a certain bracket should get it.

Maybe lower it to those people making less then 40k or 50k a year.

I dunno but my guess is they're still going through with it but with alteration.

I mean if Democrats of all people voted against this....

Regardless I really hope they think of something ASAP. We can't just let people sit like this without some kind of help.

For everyone who hates socialism in here, can send me that amount of cash. I can withstand it. You are welcome.
I hate socialism but helping people during a crisis like this is not imo socialism.

The government is locking down shit and people are out of work as a result. I see nothing wrong with temporary help.

But I hear you. People complaining about free money for a month or two are more than welcome to give it to my (and the person I care for) poor ass.

I like it when paired with democracy to be honest. Makes life less stressful. And more alive, since I would be dead without socialised helth-care. So for me, even when I was born back when Bolshevik was still on it's last legs, I can appreciate something good from it.

Democrats are holding up relief so that they can tie policies like vagina-to-penis ratios in corporate boards to it:

It didn't pass because it was the most humane thing the government could do, and it didn't came from the party that has branded itself as humanitarian.

The new version of the bill, authored by the dems, it is now asking for a dozen things that are outside of the scope of this crisis while also asking for basically the same economic relief.

It is up to the republicans to agree now, but of course thy won't. I fucking hate this partisan bullshit.

Yup. It came from Orange Man™ so of course Democrats had to fuck the American people because he can do no good.

All these swine pos politicians show their true colors. They don't give a shit about the American people. Fuck them all.

It was a guess. Even at 170 million x $1200. Where is that coming from is my question. Didn't know we could suddenly fork over that much without big consequence.

I am one who doesn't, and shouldn't, be getting anything.... but focusing one the small business and working poor is the way to go.

Not bullshit "what color are your executives" crap pooing out of the house.

I haven't read the whole topic, so please excuse me.

Where is it gonna come from? They're gonna borrow from the FED again?

to agree to a bunch of poison pills? dems get every unrelated item they want, their wishlist? Obviously they won't, and rightfully so. You can't hold a critical bill hostage like that. How you can see them in the wrong for essentially doing the right thing is quite amazing to see.

The bullshit between both parties has been going for a while. However, after reading the bill the dems proposed, it's clear they are holding the economy hostage.

I mean, they are even proposing the delivery of the money in a digital manner. Burh, that system won't make it in time. WTF!!!

Holy shit what the hell is wrong with this bitch? They should've arrested this loser the moment she started tearing up speeches. Cripes, remove this prune from office.

Lot of misinformation out there, were the Democrats the reason the bill hasn’t passed yet? Bd were they really trying to cram checkbox liberal policies unrelated to the Coronavirus relief plan?

I feel like if you make 50k or less you should get 1k or whatever. I dont understand why the dems try to keep adding shit, not really the time for fighting or hating whatever trump does or says its time to help citizens.
The Dems adding shit that has little or nothing to do with helping people because ideological garbage.

I'm not even a fan of Trump and I hope those pos lose big time come election. I hope this is remembered by voters. Their true colors show.

Our government is such a joke. It's crazy to me that these clowns vote for this kind of stuff knowing full well what the actual contents are.

Worst part is this is nothing new

Part of me believes Trump pushed said bill knowing the dems would say no to fucking anything he proposed before jobs were put on hold/ the quarantine hit. But then again what do THEY have to lose here? They are fine financially (after they sold their stocks before shit went down) so what the fuck? Have I been proven right again that they don't give a fuck about us? Are they all playing us?

Am I insane or does that mean Democrats just tried to give the Capitol Hill Paul Blart $1,000,000?

Lets show questionable parts of the GOP version too.

Here's a few of them.

Paid family leave would only be available to parents who are home with kids due to school closure. The extended leave wouldn’t be available for people who are sick with COVID-19. Those workers would only be able to take 10 days of paid sick leave ― and only if they work at a company with less than 500 employees. What’s more: Companies with fewer than 50 workers can apply for hardship relief and get out of providing both sick and family leave.

The White House actually wanted to weaken a longstanding law that provides Americans with unpaid time off during a medical emergency. The administration sought to get rid of part of the 30-year-old Family and Medical Leave Act, which ensures workers can get health insurance while they’re on long-term leave.

The GOP bill would empower the Trump administration to dole out $500 billion in bailout money to corporations of its own choosing without forbidding bailed-out firms from laying off their workers.

Where are these in the text? People lie on Twitter constantly.

For example, the last point I know is wrong because the bill says companies cannot fire workers outside of where practical concerns demand. You can say that is a loose restriction but is is a restriction nonetheless.
