US Lumines details/confirmation

"Ubisoft has no intentions of removing any of the Japanese music or adding American pop outfits to our version. We have confirmed with Ubisoft that plans are for all the music from the Japanese version to be included. Screenshots released by Ubisoft of the game show tracks from Mondo Grosso and Eri Nobuchika, so unless somebody mixed up the Japanese and the US-edition shots, everything everybody loved about Lumines in Japan is in again."

Too slow, guess i shouldn't have stopped to read that other article lol.

The management at Ubi must be high on something. Corporations aren't supposed to be this aweome.

Quick! Someone ask them to make a BG&E sequel!

Man, that is some fugly boxart. But whatever. There's a very good chance I buy this at launch...despite having no intentions of buying a PSP anytime soon. :lol

Man, I need money. :(

I really want this game, but I absolutely refuse to pay $50 for this. It is ridiculous that 3rd party publishers think they can charge $50 for games like DarkStalkers, Mercury and Lumines. I will pick up WipeOut and Ridge Racer ($40) at launch and wait until 3rd party software gets discounted.

ED.NOTE - We originally reported that skins would be randomized in the US edition, but producers have contacted us since to clarify that this is not necessarily the case, and that more challenging skins are still placed further in the game for only expert players to unlock. We will be in further contact with the company and the development team to find out exactly what changes have been made for the US edition.
"So, in conclusion, we don't know quite yet."

So, can anybody that has the game already provide a partial tracklist? I'm trying to build a personal Lumines soundtrack and the only song I even know about is "Lights" (which is great btw).

I wonder if they'll also pick up Meteos.

I hope they don't "AGH" the localization, if that's even possible. :lol

Hopefully the "shuffle" feature will make it. That will change the difficulty of the Challenge Mode with the random skin change factored in.

The shuffle feature makes no sense imo. It would be like having random stages in a shooting game, or platformer. Lumines was designed and balanced to have 24 stages over 100 levels, with each being scaled in difficulty while challenging you to unlock them, what fun would it be if you could keep playing and playing to unlock all the skins via "random" luck instead of progressing in skill?

Shuffle should be an *additional* mode to join Challenge, and Single Skin mode.

It would be just like Single Skin mode except you play through a random selection of the Skins that you have unlocked. That would definitely give the unlocking process more point. Games of Lumines go on far too long for Single Skin mode to be that enjoyable, I'd love to be able to play through a random selection of what I'd got already.

Shuffle mode can just be an unlockable feature after beating Challenge mode, or simply allow shuffling from unlocked skins in a Single mode.

Right, I'm surprised that the Japanese edition didn't have any kind of shuffle -- just Single Skin and ordered skins in Challenge. Shuffling what you've unlocked seems pretty easy, just for the variety of it at least.

It's interesting, because you can see the "Repeat" symbol above the playing field that you usually see on stereos when you put a CD in that mode... heck it almost implies that a Shuffle mode exists...

That box is an atrocity.

I should hopefully hear back from the Q Ent people I emailed on Monday. Today is a national holiday celebrating the founding of Japan under MacArthur's forced constitution.

Aaand we have a winner! No rason why they shouldn't include this.

Oh, and the boxart really is fugly. Why are they replacing the Japanese box art? It's not like this one makes it more obvious what the game is about or makes it more approachable to people or anyhthing - it's the same abstract thing, only ugly.

Good God that box is UGLY. WTF is wrong with American marketing people? Are they all blind?

They're just hiring the wrong people. I'd love a job where I could just design boxart and manual layouts all day. I guess part of the problem is that as far as getting my portfolio up is concerned, I'm just that lazy. :P
