Useless spells/items/attacks in games

ha, I had completely forgotten about the horn in wizard's and warriors. Has anyone ever been able to actually use that thing to see what it did?

The Klobb in Goldeneye.. An automatic weapon that is worse than the pistol(s)? You know that if you only had the Klobb, you could as well use your fists. Ken Lobb must feel awful to be the inspiration for that weapon.

Heheh, he probably didn't care all too much. His name got put in the game at least. And I agree, the Klobb sucked ass wind. What a waste.

The Warlock spells / summons / entire class in WoW.
Quiet you.

But they do get the oh so useless "Detect Invisibilty" buff, which still remains in game, even after Invisibility was removed.

Engineers also get "Seaforium Charges" that used to be able to open safes, now they do nothing at all except waste materials.

Poor Giant Goron was relegated to the task of giving you that worthless POS; Cmon Capcom!, the guy has range and presence more deserving than that!

*Stops puzzling over why I can see his head yet not reach him*

Telekinesis in Diablo 2... Is it just me or the only interest of this spell was to catch items staying far away from you (and make the game crash most of the times when somebody else tries to take it at the exact same time) or opening your stash from a far distance in the towns ?

Bio/Poison is useful in several Final Fantasy games. It works against some bosses. Toad, Stop, Confuse, and Death are all useful in FFV when fighting strong enemies and using a party with mages and weak fighters. Overall, status spells are typically good when fighting strong random enemies, but many games now try to keep enemies close to your level , making them pointless.

Total incapacitation of enemies like Bad Breath (when lucky) or Pain can be quite fun.

Attack magic is woefully underpowered in both Xenogears and Final Fantasy II to the point that it is only useful in a few required spots.

The AGWs of Xenosaga were only marginally useful.

Most of the shields in Megaman games. Leaf Shield was great, but the others disappeared too easily.

The fruit in Pac Man was pretty useless as all it did was give you points, it didn't help you at all and it didn't even fit in with the story.

Adding to the fact that of your only two dedicated mages (three if you want to count your "summoner" Maria), one can "fail" at casting the spell and half of the other's spell list is pointless (why use the weak low level versions when you can use the big ones to kill enemies in one blast?) and you have a poster who wonders why magic was even dealt with in the game.

(plus the only spell worth levelling for is Big Bang anyway, making both Elly and Emeralda irrelevant...)
