Lots of JRPGs got "western-style" covers when they were localized, which often also featured semi-nude women, because... lots of fantasy art was kinda like that.

Okay, I've been given enough examples and I stand corrected. I guess since I mostly like SRPGs I've been hit harder by fanservice lately Of those I only play DQ and Legend of Legacy. I should love Ys since it's light on story and it has good gameplay and music, but jeez, Origin and OiF didn't hook me for some reason.

Yeah, niche stuff gets "fanserviced" the hardest :[ And sadly I'm not the biggest fan of traditional RPGs for the most part. I'm a Tactics and monster collecting person!

Brunhild is, undoubtedly, the tallest character in the game so far though.
Actually compared to everyone else, she's pretty big-bodied.

I really didn't mean to suggest that full-bodied/voluptuous women are a new thing. At all. I misspoke. I also didn't mean to suggest that this was something happening uniquely in Japan, but rather that, within Japan, there seem to have been some aesthetic changes within the last 20 years. Poorly worded. I was curious about the specific weirdness that you see sometimes with incredibly unnatural shapes to the breasts. Not weird in that they are large, but that they just sometimes have really really weird gravity-defying shapes. Fertility objects have more realistic weight distribution than stuff like Senran Kagura/HSOTD/some of the looney stuff that's come out in the past few years.

And actually Senran Kagura's not even a good example.
