Valkyria Azure Revolution Extended Trailer [for topics Soriku doesn't like]

This is what gets me the most. I can understand if it was Raita's love for the character that keeps bringing some permutation of Selvaria back throughout the VC games and now.

Eh, but fuck it, I guess. It has "Valkyria" in the name, and I guess all Valkyria now have to look like Selvaria, even if it's not the same universe.

Edit: If the game is, indeed, a prequel, then I take back all of the above.

Well she's obviously supposed to elicit Selvaria's design, but she's clearly a distinct character.

Its just that goddamn people will not shut up about tits even while saying they have no interest in big tits. There is more discussion about tits in these threads than I see in discussions about fucking Senran Kagura.

Apparently I need to play this game

The setting looks interesting, even if what I assume are the MCs look really out of place. Never played VC, but apparently Raita is the character designer, which makes sense looking at the blue haired chick at the end.

Apparently I missed a shitstorm in this thread. Bummer.

RAITA IS NOT THE DESIGNER FOR THIS ENTRY IN THE SERIES

RAITA IS NOT THE DESIGNER FOR THIS ENTRY IN THE SERIES

I wouldn't blame people for making the mistake tbh. Looking at the art and comparing it to previous work, current stuff. I think it looks too generic to be his, but it's most definitely an approximation of his work.

Well she's obviously supposed to elicit Selvaria's design, but she's clearly a distinct character.

But, therein lies the problem for me. I cannot not see her as Selvaria in another outfit.

Of all the take-aways and common links to the Valkyria Chronicles they had to make, it WOULD have to be that. But I know, with resignation, she is the most visually striking element from the old series.

I agree that it's an obvious callback, and I debated with myself whether that's good or bad... but then I thought, this series needs all the help it can get to not be dead or mobile (worse than dead).

ayyyy lmfao Soriku BTFO

I don't think so. He had a legit point. I don't mind goofing off about boobs or whatever but I'm heavily skeptical that people who write 2000 word essays on how big breasts have no place in the world have any actual interest in the main topic at hand.

At best, it's an argument that should take place elsewhere about people living through fictional characters, and at worst, it's just incredibly distracting.... because everyone has an opinion on boobs. Everyone.

He claimed that people talking about something shown in the trailer was off-topic in a thread dedicated to discussing the trailer. Obviously, that is not correct. It's clearly on-topic, since it relates to the topic of the thread: the trailer. If people aren't interested in discussing something, they can ignore that line of discussion and talk about the things they want to talk about. Someone posting "i dont like boob" doesn't mean your posts about how cool the music is or anything else don't show up on the page.

Actually, he was backseat moderating, and some other mod might have simply banned him, so he should probably take this pain with a grain of salt.

You don't get to decide what people want to discuss about any particular piece of media.

Since the topic is now discouraged in the other thread, I'll respond in this one:

I mean..sorceress literally can't.

I'm not saying this new girl can't manage it all, I just hope she's doing her lat pull downs and her sitting rows, because her lower back and shoulders are gonna be screaming from just a good day's walk.

Just once in a Japanese video game, I want a large breasted female character to go on a 7 minute rant about why having gigantic missile breasts fucking sucks on the day to day and not have it turn into some sort of cutesy montage. You got people fetishizing physics defying breasts in every anime ever and the guys who get off on it don't realize how much day to day pain that girl would be in. Any time I see that gif of Hitomi Tanaka twisting back and forth to throw her breasts around, I wince in pain because I know that probably hurts like a bitch.

Like, imagine if giant balls were fetishized by women, and all they wanted to do was see said giant balls just crashing against each other as hard as the guy could muster without using his hands. ::Shiver::

Japanese pop culture will never, ever, EVER, get past the idea that large breasts do not act like water balloons.
It's not 7 minutes (or even 7 lines), but your lament reminded me of this all-too-brief exchange in Persona 2:

It's the only time the subject is ever broached, to my recollection. Ulala doesn't even fit the mold of what one would consider "a titty monster", so to me this kind of came out of left-field. To be perfectly honest, these kind of in-game discussions probably doesn't happen on the regular because the designers (a.k.a. men) don't want to (or just don't) think about any and all downsides to large breasts and their effects on the women forced to carry them.

And everyone has an opinion on graphics, on music, etc...

That dosn't mean is not worth discussing.

TBH I actually see this a lot in Japanese games, which at times tend to actually comment in a meta fashion or be tongue in cheek at times about such characters and attributes. I love 4th dimensional commentary.

I'd be curious to know where this actually comes from, i.e. what started the fascination with intentionally back-breaking distorted physiology. This stuff seems to come out only in anime and manga and only in the past 20 years or so in Japan. As for Azure, I'm sure it's just for branding reasons, as has been said. Not just as pure sex appeal, but more generally that it's an easily recognizable characteristic for this particular character. I'm not sure how many people actually consider basketball breasts to be "sexy."

Can't wait for that VC remake on PS4. (first timer too :) )

as for the characters are they still being designed by Raita or did anyone else took his influence?

You're joking right

To give my opinion on her design, I think the outfit is actually really cool, and I agree that she would probably look better with smaller breasts. Could still be pretty big, but smaller would fit her body better, I think.

Selvaria had pretty big boobs as well, but they fit her model much better.

But, personally, I feel like that's more a discussion on her design than the way the game treats her, I didn't get any negative impression from the trailer at all, on the contrary, I felt like she was presented as a very powerful person, and the focus the trailer gives on her is "shit is about to go down", not "LOOK AT DEM TITTAYS, GODDAYUM SHE'S SO HOT".

So yeah, I actually agree with the complaint about chest size for her design, but at the same time I do feel like some posters might be reading too much into it. I didn't get the feeling they needed to change the way she's being portrayed because it's disrespectful or anything like that. She's most definitely not Quiet.

Just want to make a point here. The breast seem exaggerated or emphasized if you will. On the zoomed in photo they look close to the size of her head. Not trying to shame big breasted gals, I love you, but there's just some part of my brain saying they don't look right the way rest on the corset.

Also that outfit is ridiculous, from a design standpoint (but lol videogames so I'll let it pass) and from a pratical standpoint. If someone with a chest that size is going into a fight or any physical activity they should put on a training bra or something along those lines. Seriously she'll get a black eye.

Forever and sometime ago ohohoho.

Yup. I mean look at urusei yatsura, you see scantily clad women going back to the beginning of its popularity in Japan. Obviously. But I still think it's been trending increasingly in the direction of the particularly impossible.

Persona 2 is a narrative rooted in the idea that these are real people thrown into a supernatural adventure. Everyone in the main cast comes off like an actual person with a life of their own. I've seen nothing else come close to it - not western games and not japanese games. It's a shame how underrated it is and what direction the series went in.

Yeah, it should certainly be allowed to be discussed, but I think it's fair to say that when these discussions have popped up lately they've tended to dominate the thread way more than they should, and it gets to the point where the people who want to talk about anything else about the game don't want to participate anymore. So splitting off threads when that shit starts up (as modbot did here) is probably the best call.

"I think this lady's breasts are too big!" is, while a valid contribution, not a particularly interesting one or one that needs to be repeated by every third person to post.

I mean the sorts of games where the characters tend to be "larger than life" so to speak are also the same sorts of games where people are breathing fire, shooting lightning out of their fingertips, jumping 5 stories in a single bound or bench pressing trucks. Like I don't think back pain is a real concern for characters who have the destructive power of a missile at their personal disposal :P

Can't wait to see gameplay, breasts like that would be fine to me if the flowed and look like a breast. Instead of these manican style ones, its just weird sometimes.

But I really wonder what the gameplay flow will be like, how many enemies in battle? Looks like it could be really fun

Why does it looks like her head is floating a few feet behind her body?

Selvaria had pretty big boobs as well, but they fit her model much better.
Selvaria's outfit was also less ridiculous. It was still stupidly tight but they at least had a bunch of straps as an excuse.

JRPGs with a more serious tone (see: not fanservice-ish) are pretty much extinct nowadays, aren't they? Something like Tactics Ogre or FFT would simply not fly these days.

Dunno, one of them is right now the big hit on Steam and SteamGAF

Dragon's Dogma

Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma...?

However, old "serious" RPGs had LOADS of fanservice. I remember every cover that basically featured almost naked women as the sell point.

Fair enough, but that's hardly in line with the examples I mentioned, other than being developed within the same geographical perimeter :P

Well, of course there is a lack of JRPGs with serious tone if you just don't count the ones which running a well... serious tone.

Like shin megami tensei?

Souls? Dragon's dogma?

You mean games people try to claim aren't "JRPGs?" :P

I'm in what seems to be the minority crowd and think giant boobs like that make for dumb character designs. She would look way better if they were smaller/realistically proportioned. As it is, it just looks bad.

Final Fantasy? Dragon Quest? Shin Megami Tensei? These series have too much fanservice for you?

EDIT: Bravely Default
Legend of Legacy
Exist Archive (I think)
Stranger of Sword City
Ni No Kuni II

So there has never been anything between fanservice anime and dark fantasy in JRPGs, right? Lol.

I'm not an expert of the Ys series but what's wrong with that?

There are so many low and no fanservice JRPGs that you can still be very selective about them.
