Valve has announced the Steam Deck OLED: White Edition.

This new version of the handheld PC launches on 18th November, but if you want one, be warned: only a limited number will be available ("Once we're out, we're out," Valve says).

"Last year, we released a smoky translucent limited edition Steam Deck OLED as an experiment to find out if there was interest in alternative colourways (there was!). This is our second experiment along those lines," Valve explained, sharing a look at the upcoming Steam Deck.

"The difference this time (aside from the colour!) is that we're able to ship the Limited Edition White to all regions where Steam Deck already ships," the company continued. "We're curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new colour variants down the line."

Valve said it has been "super happy with the reception of Steam Deck" since the team first launched the LCD version back in 2022. "We've always said our intent is to continually work on improving Steam Deck, and that's true from both a software perspective (continuing to ship improvements) and a hardware one (Steam Deck OLED, as well as ongoing work toward the future of Steam Deck and other hardware plans)."

Those white (off white, grey, whatever the color is called) thumb sticks are going to be gross after 15 minutes of use. I buy white/lighter colored hardware for showcase not for use and the transparent model is fine for both in my case.

Probably full priced or maybe even more expensive and underpowered compared to the increasingly numerous competition. Only the truly hardcore Valve fans will go for this but I guess there's plenty of those anyway.

EDIT: And seriously, they couldn't even spare 5 cents to make the power button fit the look of the rest of the system?

EDIT: It's $679, yup more expensive.

Why did we choose this colour? Well! Light grey encompasses almost the entire spectrum of colour. This way we are able to sell every mix of colours imaginable at once exept for the exclusive ones. We will sell those at a premium.

It looks nice. Honestly neither this nor the black one are lookers, but I think the white with gray buttons looks better.

I’d still rather have the black one though. I think the screen pops more against the black bezel + the black color doesn’t draw as much of your attention.

Can’t you just change the case of the original oled black to this color?

White color devices get dirty fast after holding it long period of time. The sweat and holding different items through out the day and playing your white oled deck will not look white anymore.

Sure you can wash your hands but your not going to keep washing your hands after touching every little thing that in your way.

The Steam Deck as a whole isn’t really a “pretty” device to me, but it doesn’t bother me either. It’s a pure function over form, utilitarian thing that gets the job done with no additional fluff. It’s definitely striking though, people who are in the know will see mine the rare times I take it somewhere and light up, and those that don’t wonder what the hell it is lol.

As handhelds go I think it is ugly. And what are those knobs and the screen looks wrong aspect ratio

White consoles allways looks best, but I am fine with my launch Stream deck, and at this point I wouldn't waste my money on one, it is starting to show it's age .

I think it looks really nice. People talk about how white gets dirty and all but neither my white Dualsense or my white chinese handheld have signs of smudges or sweat mark. Look as good now as when I bought them. I think white/grey just looks nicer on the eyes.

Looks very nice imo. But I’ll hold off to see what the second gen has to offer, whenever that arrives.

I have had pretty mixed results. I have a white Nintendo DS Lite that I can only describe as being ‘coffee stain on teeth’ colored these days.
